I used to mow 5 cemeteries and would catch myself reading the headstones and i mowed for 3 years. Not one ever said anything about how they wished they worked more. It was almost always about family, time or God.
I worked from Monday to Thursday for one year and, it was one of the most productive and enjoyable work periods of my life. It was a win-win for everyone. I see colleagues going for several coffee and smoke breaks during the day (please don't come for me), and often wonder if instead of all that time away from their desks, a 4-day work week could be introduced I would work my curls off if it meant that I get to have a Friday free.
I know Ramsey is a believer in work from the office, but work from home is where I am most productive. I can take breaks that actually give me rest like going on a walk with my dog and not feel judged. Then when I come back to my desk I can put in 100% effort. At the office I am more prone to burnout where I might sit at my desk all day but after a certain point im working at 20% focus and drive.
In a 40 hour work week, most people do about 10-15 hours of work. It happened with me at my entry level job doing accounts payable and at my second job doing sales analysis. The other 25 hours is just hanging out looking busy.
This is why working remote is so awesome. You can get house chores and other errands done during work time. If you are in and office you need to spend that 25 hour period with co workers in an office.
@@sanshinobi3664 If you have ever worked in a corporate office it's usually how things go. You spend the first 1 hour of the day chatting with co-workers and getting coffee. Then do an hour of work. Then take a 15 min break. Then do 2 hours of work. Then take a long lunch. 2 more hours of work, then take a long break and spend the remainder of the day hanging out and talking with co-workers. Then drive home.
The old adage of "Everyone is replaceable" is dead in the water. Th percentage of high performers in the world is the smallest its ever been. Ken, I love your show. Can you do one addressing not the quiet quitting or absentee managers or lack of qualified candidates but rather lack of quality, intelligent people as available candidates?
When there is no incentive, why will there be a large pool of quality, intelligent, availible candidates? The hard work put into delivering quality doesn't pay what it used to.
The problem is owners/managers really do care how many hours employees worked. Owners and bosses do not want to pay for output. They believe in input as the driver. When people get paid for output, it's amazing how productive they become. Today, many new companies are paying for output, so you have people living out of their vehicles traveling the countryside and maintaining their careers.
I think we as people need to ask ourselves, “knowing what we know now, would we reapply at this job?” And if the answer is no then it’s time to move on.
The keeper test is fine for an actual sports team, but in the corporate world 99% of a company’s employees don’t care AT ALL about their company’s profitability/performance, only insofar as if they’re in business and can sign the checks. The 1% of executives obsess over this bc of their stock options and are bewildered when the 99% doesn’t share their opinions.
The problem with the “cost of employee loss” is that it doesn’t hurt the ceo immediately. Sure over the long term, it hurts the company but that’s someone else’s problem. This is why unemployment insurance should be higher. So it’s more costly to fire. Although a balance should be made so companies are also not reluctant to hire
Business owners and employees have different mindsets. Employers pay a salary and drive employees harder to decrease their hourly rate by increasing productivity, (same money, more productivity). The harder Employees are driven, the less they care until they get sick of it until they quit.
If I had an employee not taking something as important as a seat belt seriously I would fire them too. It takes less than 3 seconds. If the caller was coming from a place of understanding why his employer wants him to use the belt, promising to improve and still got fired that's different, but I got the impression he thinks it's silly, and he probably left that impression with his ex employer as well.
That’s really funny when you take into consideration that Netflix making a live-action/remake has become a meme/equivalent for making a bad quality product 😂
These “leaders” always want more from their employees. They will always come back to micro managing. Even worse in a big company with thousands of employees
I work 13 hours a day 5 days a week on 8 hours a day every other weekend maybe it's not all rushing around but I work 70 hours on a average week and I'm burnt out from doing that
If you can change jobs or carriers. Do it. Those hours sound like trucking. I have spent 32 years behind the wheel. It's a job that sucks the life out of you.
A family member works from home 3 days a week , 2 days in the office and it works great because there is no one else at home. But, recently a co worker died and they went to his house to recover the office gear only to find it was never hooked up and he never worked while at home, only the two office days per week 🤦♀️
I never understood the 40-hour work week. As a boss, wouldn't you want me to get my job complete as soon as possible? You save more money and get the labor you're paying for. That's basic capitalize principles
I think most 5-day-a-week office workers are actually working 4 days a week. If you’re WFH 2-3 days, I highly doubt you’re putting in 40. Not that the work isn’t getting done, just that I think more people are working 4days than the data shows.
4 day work week is effective. Most jobs I’ve worked for implemented it, eventually moved to forced Friday because the office cries. TBH if it was performance related jobs would get done faster, and yet when you elevate this jobs require hourly rate & 40hrs a week. How about coming up with kpi, too much work
As management and Upper management roles are concerned. Those groups have to let go of Lording over the workforce, it becomes a powerplay in the workfield. Management would rather control ones hours over less hours with better results. The bar or margine is so high between the worker and manager, that the manager would never want to share any perks with the work force. Its psychological. A bad manager doesnt want to live in a world where there team is happy because they work 30 hours and double productivity. Its scary
I hate working for other people period. Every happy and wealthy person I’ve ever met traveling all across the US never worked from someone else. They all owned their own businesses. I’ve never been happy working at any job I’ve ever had. All the positions have been boring and repetitive and have no enjoyment in them whatsoever
@jpsy422 A weekend shift that works 3 12's. We have 4 shifts at work. Days and nights working 4 10's Monday through Thursday. Days and nights working 3 12's Friday through Sunday. We're staffed 24 hrs a day and people rarely leave once hired.
My advice. I’d your a Christian is see if this what the Lord wants you to do. Or if he has another calling for your life. The corporate world values you as long as you make profits for them. The Lord Jesus will make you a profitable servant in the sense of eternal things that are worth. A LOT. more.

I think your both right. What he focused on was communication and work culture. And both can make u more effective depending on the job
I think most people at Ramsey agree… they’re just sitting around waiting for Dave to kick the bucket so they can implement remote work
Ken is open minded about it
Depends on what you do for work. A construction worker isn’t going to do that nor is a plumber.

I wish I worked 40 hours…. Salary exempt just gives employers a way to screw their workers…
Wow…this is quite the heel turn…
Work week should be based on the work you are doing. Government should not be involved.

I'd like a four day work week with Wednesdays off. I could work Monday and Tuesday, get a day off than work Thursday and Friday.
This has been my schedule for the last few months. Had to take FMLA leave to get that schedule, but I love it.
What if work was task based. Finish a certain number of tasks and you’re done for the week. Most of us would be done by lunch on Wednesday

The problem is most of those jobs require the 5th day mandatory OT then stating "well you would still have 2 days off" Sometimes the 6th day.
