Nice work bro, your channel is great. Lumber is cut at a 2x2 dimension and eventually shrinks to 1.5"x1.5" when the wood fibers shrink. Same reason you see a 2"x4" actual measure at 1.5"x3.5". The length doesn't change though, since the fibers don't shrink lengthwise, just across the width.
Love this idea. My first time making a loft and I'm building it with 2 BOB type entrances. I see the birds in the sun cage and how they go through the BOBS to get to the food inside. My question is, how do you get the birds into the suncage? Do you pull them all out and place in the suncage or do you leave the BOB gate open so they can go out?

Yeah I would put the bolts up so that teaches them how to come out on their own....
