Thank You for the wonderful work you did with 'Dancer In The Dark.' Also, Thank You for sharing this wonderful video footage of your brilliant choreography.
The performances in this documentary are wonderful - many of their magic was lost in the film because of Trier's bad editing, static images and terrible angles (whole idea of 1000 cameras was not exactly good idea IMHO). This is more like it should be, I really like it very much - the choreography itself was very good, it is shame that you cannot really see it in the final product.
I think the bad editing was on purpose and fit the overall theme of the musicals quite well. While Von Trier is a bit pretentious at times, he definetly doesn't lack cinematography skills as seen in Antichrist.
"Dancer in the dark" is fascinating movie but includes some of the worst musical scenes I've ever seen. They are painful to watch. After this docu I realize it seems only so bad because of bad editing. This low-cut backstage footage is amazing!
folkosire i think the “bad editing” is supposed to make those scenes kind of cringy and make you focus on how insane her coping mechanism might’ve been. that’s how i interpreted it. like the darkness of reality fucking up the sensationalism.
