Nope, he's right. Europe is ahead. UTC is centered on spain, GMT is centered in UK. On both maps, europe is roughly 6-10 zones ahead, depending on the specific region. Even if you center your timezones on America, that just moves europe further ahead without looping it around.
You can see that with preloaded games released by date: They unlock first in Asia, then Europe, and America gets to play last. ;P
