I've had my CDL nearly 20 years and I am just now starting to get into the industry. I obtained my CDL training through the military where FL accepted my military license and issued a FL CDL for me. I've always held onto my CDL and completed DOT physicals every 2 years even though I didn't need to. Now that I'm in the midst of a career change, I'm glad I always held onto it. For me, driving truck is like riding a bicycle, a skill I haven't forgot, but now I have to learn the ways of the commercial trucking industry... we'll see how it turns out. 😬

  • @JohnnyRebKy

My advice to young truckers in early 20s is to stay single. You need to have the least amount of reasons to go home as possible. Worrying about some young hot thang running around on you while your gone can end your trucking career pretty quickly. Start your trucking career single and hit the road. Get yourself totally OK with not making it home and staying out on the road. Your truck is your home. Get rid of as much home expense as possible too. Get rid of the car payments and so on. Run the roads and put all the money in your pocket! In a few years you will be WAY ahead. You can buy your own truck with CASH.

A lot of comments about the seat height. It's an interview, he's not driving down the road people, he's sitting in a truck stop gabbing with someone. The Bostrom seat is probably the best one out there (one I wished I'd spring the money for) as far as driver comfort goes. It has a choice of three pedestal heights, I'm guessing he's choosen the short base, which is best for shorter legged drivers. The seat is air ride and the height can be raised with a push of a button.

I saved a bunch of money for a tractor ... then a bunch more for anticipating repairs...
    Now the big question...
What is the better truck to get and motor???

I love American Rigs, I’ve been trucking for 10 years across Europe, but I don’t think I could get on with how low the seating position is, I like to be high and seeing the road and trailer, I’d actually find that really difficult sitting on the floor

    it can be done.
I know a guy that went to the local community college at 20 and got his CDL, and before he was finished with the class he got a job offer from a local heavy haul company, they have a 9 month of training for the new guys, and he was doing in state short runs and when he turned 21 he started doing oversize overweight regional trips. listen to this guy, and do NOT borrow money for an automobile and never run up credit cards you cant pay off every month.
