Fun Fact: Harrison Burton was born the following day after the 2000 UAW-GM Quality 500 occurred
“2001 is going to be a pivotal year” if only you knew...
Some noted personalities throughout its 32 years on Turner Sports included Rick Benjamin, Mike Joy, Mike Massaro, Bill Weber, Dave Burns, Marty Snyder, Matt Yocum (who also works at FOX Sports), Steve Byrnes, Mike Hogewood (later an announcer for Monster Jam and Ring of Honor), Dave Despain, Randy Pemberton (brother of Robin), Allen Bestwick, Richard Petty (and his son Kyle), the late Benny Parsons, Wally Dallenbach, Ralph Sheheen, Adam Alexander and the legendary Ken Squier.
And David Hobbs as well for a select number of races when he wasn't covering Formula One
TBS should've kept NASCAR coverage in 01 instead of TNT
TheDarkwingj same thing except the channel number
4:52:02-4:52:17, Ken Squier reminding viewers about the NBA on TBS and to stay tuned for The Green Berets starring John Wayne, one of my husband's favorite movies!
Proof that NASCAR should raise the ride height of these cars. A terrific battle for the lead for most of the 500 miles. Reduced horsepower, the CHA$E lottery playoff system, Driver A hating Driver B; all that crap needs to be swept into the dustbin of history.
The higher the horsepower, the higher ability level required from the driver (can we say Milka Dunno and IRL?).
I don't care who wins the elimination shootout. Whoever scores the most points from Daytona through Homestead should be the champion. I'd actually like to see Matt Kenseth or Ryan Newman steal the title with no wins to prove how flawed this playoff idea is.
So-and-so being pissed off at so-and-so has gotten old. Back in 2000, other than Stewart and Gordon (and Gordon), I don't think any of these drivers truly hated one another. 99% of the time, they were mature enough to talk about it behind the haulers, wait for a short track race, or simply move on and try to win next week.
UberAntisocialist You have to sideways. Lower horsepower has meant more, not less, passing. The ride height has not been the problem; making the draft more effective is what is needed. Also needed is what Goodyear completely stumbled into in this race after its incompetence led to a major shortage - tires that race like bias-plies, tires that are forgiving to the drivers and require them to race hard as opposed to having to catch the car like radials do.
+Michael Daly there where a lot of lead change
+Joseph Bevacqua 47 official lead changes, in fact.
JesusHippie The unfortunate "Good Ole Days" of Nascar.
When did Milka Dunno ever appear to have talent? Lol
After a very successful 18-year run on TBS, the network, known now for its "Very Funny" slogan, was supposed to join NBC as its NASCAR partner, but sister network TNT joined the NASCAR/Turner Sports fray instead due to its "We Know Drama" slogan.
3:54:47 NASCAR on NBC/TBS Superstation advertisement for July 2001, it went on NBC but not on TBS and went to TNT instead, in an parraell universe TBS did air NASCAR and it was like NBC's

4:31:05 THIS is the greatest thing about NASCAR, the only sport that legitimately puts God first. This is also why I love NASCAR as much as I do.
yeah..and that's why i get so much shit for liking the sport..everyone in it mentions gawd this gawd that..ugh..just fucking race..if an atheist entered nascar..poor fucker
I just got done watching a documentary on Reggie White. His former teammates were talking about how much of an outspoken Christian he was, but also how he didn't force his beliefs on anyone. This is what I did right here. I forced my beliefs on you. I'm sorry man. I wasn't trying to upset you.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Charlotte was the final time TBS would televise a NASCAR race, but the following July in 2001, TNT, thanks to its "We Know Drama" slogan, aired its first NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Loudon, NH, continuing the NASCAR on Turner Sports legacy.
winston cup back then
Really though the first race under the new contract was Daytona. Turner produced all the coverage, including stuff that aired on NBC, CNN/SI, or CNBC
In other words, the NASCAR TV contract from 2001-06 was for FOX/FX for the first half of the NASCAR Monster Cup Season, then for NBC/TNT for the second half, with FOX airing the Daytona 500 in odd-numbered years and the Coke Zero 400 in even-numbered years, and NBC airing the Coke Zero 400 in odd-numbered years and the Daytona 500 in even-numbered years, so, technically, NBC Sports and Turner Sports co-produced the first run of NASCAR on NBC/TNT!
WCW and NASCAR weren't the only events airing on Turner Sports; NBA Basketball and Major League Baseball were also mainstays on Turner Sports (especially TBS' longtime coverage of the Atlanta Braves, which have been a mainstay on the network for the past 40+ years), and have remained that way ever since.
Turner Sports has in addition to the properties you mentioned added the UEFA Champions League in recent years and possibly Major League Soccer in 2020 as the leagues new cable partner along with FOX
1:27, a then-unknown Mike Massaro as a pit reporter!
Jerry Nadeau and Steve Park epitomize snake-bitten careers. So much potential...
you noticed this race was the last race to use the 90s style TBS graphics but featured a graphic in the in break split screen where the font matches that of the 2001-2004 TNT/NBC graphics as seen for an example at 53:12 at lap 8.
Look at all the empty seats😯😮
+joshuty456 Not as bad as it is today but still a little shocking. Goes to show how much Charlotte Motor Speedway overbuild.
0:00-0:40, "Scuttle Buttin'" by the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, also used in the NASCAR 99 soundtrack.
YES YES YES MORE NASCAR FROM 2000 PLEASE!!!
46:19 why does Steve park always have issues under cautions?
Thinking too much.
I used to think Liz Allison was one of the gold digger wives of NASCAR. But, after watching this broadcast, I changed my mind. I think that just shows that the Davey Allison doc on FOX Sports portrayed her terribly
Tiktok star Addison Rae was 2 days old at the time of this race. Harrison Burton was born the next day.
"he will be 50 next april" :(
about that ad about NASCAR on NBC and TBS in which it was starting July 2001 that never happened because TBS made their last broadcast in this race and TNT begin coverageing NASCAR along with NBC starting in watkin's Glen for the xfinity series in which TNT begin coverageing the race in July 2001
did you watch it
Yeah but all of NASCAR didn't know that TBS ended their relationship with them and NASCAR accidentally put TBS's name on both books, magazines and on TV so TNT came to replace them in July
Greg Ayala tell me about the race
Well this was really TBS last NASCAR race
+Greg Ayala tell me who won?
My dad recorded this for me when I was little but he didn't get the start of it but he had the race and this race was pretty excited just long
THANK. YOU.
NASCAR would remain on Turner Sports the following season, but it would be on TNT instead of TBS.
What a race!!
I disagree. Turner Sports' 2001-2003 theme was better than their 1996-2000 theme. Metallica really gets you fired up
but it's from reload! i'd like to hear creeping death before a nascar race rather than the fake crap that was fuel..best track on the album and i hated it
reload era metallica? i mean okay the song fuel is the best thing on reload, but it still sucks. why not whiplash or hit the lights? motorbreath? that'd get me fired up. fuel just makes me think...oh how the mighty fell
Dude...listen to the lyrics..It makes perfect sense to why they used it.....and creeping death is my favorite from them...
Good race man ty
