Thanks so much, man--I really enjoy your channel!! I had to dig around quite a bit for the info, and Nick was cool about answering a bunch of my questions.
i think it would be cool to have a segment that tries to squeeze doom tones out of equipment that one wouldnt normally associate the genre, like strats, voxes, danelectro pedals, etc. this could be pretty inspiring to people who have undoomy gear but are interested in the genre. all you really need to rock n roll is tune low and play slow.
@@DoesItDoom yeah! i have a mix of nice gear and budget gear that serve me well but i do know that doom is no exception to gear snobbery, perhaps even more so than most other offshoots of rock. maybe people need some inspiration to get creative with what they have so they can focus on writing/playing without worrying about whether their single coil or solid state amp is going to translate. i can be picky when it comes to tone when looking for new bands to listen to, but i think all a teenager starting out should be worrying about it staying in tune and rocking out as hard as hard as they can with what they have. i've been thinking about doing a series like this but i think you would do bang up job.
chad feehan it’s a cool idea for sure. I have an Orange Crush 20 analog solid state combo which I plan on demoing in the near future. I have used it for all of my recent guitar lessons, and it’s great ($140). Also have a Behringer SF300 ($25) which is going to be demoed with some Electric Wizard riffs in the coming weeks. As far as guitars that wouldn’t necessarily fit the genre, I do have an old Strat I could use-Ironically I got into Strats because the lead guitarist on the early Witchcraft albums played a Strat.

Great video, demo and review. Went in depth about the pedal and controls without going to technical and boring, just straight up useful info on how it all works. Showed not only pedal settings but how you set the amp as well. More RUclips guitar gear reviews need to show the amp settings when doing pedal demos. “Here is (insert random overdrive that’s just a ts9 with more eq controls) into my Mesa/5150” close up on the overdrive and far shots on the dude playing. Amp settings are just as important as pedal settings also this one sounds killer
Toki Warbeast thanks man! I’m doing my best to execute on all those things you mentioned! The amp settings didn’t come out as clear as I wanted, but I’m going to add them to the description. I always run the “Iommi” settings on that thing, which means plugging into the high bass input, presence, middle, treble on full, bass off, and for this demo gain set at 3.5, which has the amp at the edge of breakup.
Really digging your channel. I'm enjoying these doom stoner fuzz reviews. Its a small glimpse of sanity in an insane world. And more importantly it makes me want to pick up my guitar again. Thanks for that. 🙏

@@DoesItDoom Yeah, they're pretty sweet pedals. I play through a GT 120 and prefer a rat for doom tones (this was Windhand's set up until their split with Salem's Pot) or an ocd for sludge tones if I need some more articulation, but it's not a bad pedal by any means. It also sounds great with single coil pickups, which kind of surprised me. I see them for sale on reverb every now and then, but I had to bite the bullet and just buy one new
Great review and the settings are spot on. I received mine about a week ago. Been lurking the Dunwich site but it's always been out of stock, so when it was available i pulled the trigger immediately. I run mine with an Epiphone LP with Probuckers @ C standard. The DA-120 into an Orange OR15 which sends the doom to a 2x12 Celestion V30 cab and it sounds amazing. Pulling back on the depth gives really good sounds too. I already had the Dunwich Fuzzthrone which i also like, and the DA-120 will definitely have a permanent home next to it. I'm not a great player, but it brings me huge smiles every time i play Sleep or some old High on Fire like Bagdad etc with it.
Very cool, man. I bet that rig sounds great! I dig those OR15’s. It’s hard not to smile while jamming anything through this pedal; it sounds exactly like it’s supposed to, and at any volume.
How did you find out Dunwich was stocking these again? The website always says they're sold out and there doesn't seem to be a mailing list...did you just check the website every day?
Brett Adams best bet is to follow @dunwichamps and @magicpedals on Instagram. Magic builds a lot of pedals for Dunwich and gives pretty frequent updates on what is in the pipeline. Nick’s page is active as well but he seems to focus on custom order builds.
@@barryhoobs1 I did regular checks on the Dunwich site and was simply lucky. One, for sure better way of finding out is to visit the Magic pedals Facebook page. Like clockwork with fast shipment + a few goodies included.
I had one of these for a minute because of this video, I could never quite dial mine in but heard you can plug this straight into the fx loop. I was having crazy noise issues with him and feedback. Could I just plug into a mosvalve power amp and use it as the pre amp?

Great video man! I am going to order one of those. I wonder how they sound like if you just use them as an Preamp only. So connecting the da120 to the fx return instead of in the front amp. I did a lot of experiements lately. i sliced a cheap 1x12 speaker and also hooked it up to my 4x12. In parallel it sounded really cool. Then i ran my guitar through an old Yamaha mixing board, clipped the DI with the preamp gain of that board and send it to the amp. It was a pretty unique fuzz sound. Hey Steve! Do you know if there is any difference between this and the previous version? The one they sold last year was smaller and had a Blend knob instead of the Boost one. Thanks!
I believe there have been some small circuit changes over time. Your best bet would be to reach out to Nick at Dunwich or Magic Pedals for the details. I do know on the previous version of the pedal the boost was centered around a different frequency range.

@@DoesItDoom Yeah, it's weird. I didn't like it at first, because it honestly sounded like a blown out speaker. I dug it out last night and spent some times with it though and I seem to have to dial it off to get a good tone. The drive seems to be the biggest culprit. I tried through three different amps and two cabs.
Hey, quick question - how do you think this pedal would sound into an 80's JC-120? It makes some good sound with my Rat, but there isn't really any information out there on these doom pedals into SS amps like the JC. I just can't let go of this clean tone, you know
@@DoesItDoom Hellyea man its a great piece of hardware if ya dig the stoner/doom type plus you got a killer channel here keep on Riffin Brother 🍻from Belfast
I'm getting one of these. If I get the cthulhu fuzz with it, do you think playing them together would work or would that be to much fuzz you think? Sorry I'm kinda new to doom metal.
Just got one of these but its extremely noisey and not in a good way. With the pedal master up and no guitar signal there is a massive white noise it's hard to play guitar over. Does yours react this way?
jpfan1992 got ya. Will tack it on the list, but in general, a muff tone is pretty scooped, and will tend to have a muddyness to it that can easily get lost in the mix if run on its own.
Thanks for checking it out! I'm not a bassist, so take that into consideration as there are likely better people to ask, but when I have experimented with stoner doom bass, I always liked to bi-amp, with one amp getting the clean signal and the other getting a dirty signal (via distortion or fuzz). If you only have one amp, you can achieve the same idea using a pedal like the Boss Line Selector LS-2, which allows you to maintain some of the clean signal while blending in some of the signal running through a distortion/fuzz pedal. I like this method because it maintains a bunch of low end clarity while adding in some dirt (which typically cuts out low end). Makes for a well rounded bass tone imo.
On top of what was said above, I'd recommend you to go for a very bass-heavy fuzz pedal, especially if you're playing with one amp without an A/B box or line selector or whatever. Minotaur's Fuzz and Burn sounds great on a bass at least, I'd recommend you to look into that thing.
@@tommisaarinen2394 thanks for the additional info, man. I've heard a lot about that pedal for guitar as well. Lot's of people seem to like it / or have interest.

Aris Sp I definitely want to, and plan on doing, some Wino lessons! There was a Reissue for sale here locally that got down to $900-I was dying to grab it but missed out.
Hi Steve, I’ve read all of the previous comments to make sure you won’t be regurgitating the same info... Even though I have had this pedal for about 2 years and I am still learning it (and guitar!) it is easily the one I use the most. I was hoping you would say what other pedals you would recommend to purchase to accompany it. I ordered last week a Temporal Rift (reverb/octave) but aside from that I’m not sure how best to enhance my setup. Pedals can cost a lot and I am certainly willing to pay for them, but just don’t want to buy ones that I will have buyers remorse over later. I am in Australia so it is even trickier plus our dollar value is trash. I have been looking/drooling over the MinataurST Swamp Lord but that is the only one I am fairly positive about. I like to (try to) play my guitar super slow and fuzzy and repetitive. I am after tone way before trying to be a ‘good’ guitar player. Thanks for your videos, time and dedication. Much love and God Bless, Diana.
I don’t mean to hate but It’s 3 minutes into the video and no pedal sound, just for the future l recommend to start with a little sound snippet (it maybe short) and then switch to explaining and then back to sound and knob turning, though respect for using looper

I just can't let go of this clean tone, you know
This pedal sounds great into a clean amp.
Subscribed!!! Your channel is fucking sick 🤘😙💨
Thanks for the sub!! I really appreciate you checking it out!! 🤘🏻🐐🤘🏻
Well shit i guess im adding this to my pedal arsenal kinda reminds me of the Minitaur Fuzz&Burn that thing cranks man
Have heard a lot about that pedal. Really want to check it out. Thanks for watching!
@@DoesItDoom Hellyea man its a great piece of hardware if ya dig the stoner/doom type plus you got a killer channel here keep on Riffin Brother 🍻from Belfast
David Jillson thanks brother. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Does anyone know if they still do the Dunwich DA-120 Tube amp instead of pedal?
You can try contacting Nick at Dunwich directly, but I believe he has said that he’s not doing amps right now.
I'm getting one of these. If I get the cthulhu fuzz with it, do you think playing them together would work or would that be to much fuzz you think? Sorry I'm kinda new to doom metal.
I don’t think the DA120 was really designed for stacking based on what Nick has said in the past but you could always experiment.
Cool thanks for the reply! Love your videos. Keep'em coming!
Rusty Shackleford glad you dig ‘em!
Love the hat
What happened to this pedal I cant find it anywhere
The Dunwich store is down right now. They said it will be back soon.
The original builder sold the circuit (all of them) to magic pedals....so look on their website.
Just got one of these but its extremely noisey and not in a good way. With the pedal master up and no guitar signal there is a massive white noise it's hard to play guitar over. Does yours react this way?
Yeah. They have a fairly high noise floor.
Spasibog
Sick!
@@DoesItDoom could you try to get some muff tones out of a lespaul? Or sg mine sounds too muddy!
jpfan1992 run a LP or an SG through a Big Muff you mean?
@@DoesItDoom yes please! With various volume levels for best tone!
jpfan1992 got ya. Will tack it on the list, but in general, a muff tone is pretty scooped, and will tend to have a muddyness to it that can easily get lost in the mix if run on its own.
Man this is awesome. Any advice on getting a stoner doom sound on bass?
@@DoesItDoom awesome i appreciate the reply. Its surprising hard to find doom/stoner bass videos haha
@@tommisaarinen2394 awesome ill have a look at that one.
Will you ever do a video on a Green master volume amp ?
If I ever get my hands on one, yes. 🤘🏻🐐🔊
Got damn!!!
Dreads 1313 🐐🤘🏻🐐
@@DoesItDoom Have you messes with the berhinger super fuzz? Or the dunlop swollen pickle? Im eager to try the superfuzz it seem you can get a bingripper sleep windhand tones with it
Dreads 1313 I just picked up a Behringer SF300. Sounds basically identical to my ‘93 Boss FZ-2, but cost $25 instead of $200. Great for Electric Wizard and Monolord style tones. Can’t go wrong at the price. I’m going to do a direct comparison demo of the two pedals in the coming weeks.
heavy as i like it
Aris Sp heavy indeed. Thanks for checking out the demo!
@@DoesItDoom i dig your channel! im into the tone quest myself got the guitar (les paul custom 1974) now im trying to find and buy the amp (sunn model t) although i think ill end up with an orange
Aris Sp the never ending quest!! Would love to try a vintage model T myself. I’ve used a 90’s reissue quite a bit, and it’s a killer amp, but definitely not the same thing.
@@DoesItDoom to be honest i wouldn't mind the reissue, thing is you cant find them anywhere.. i wonder how else i can achieve a tone like Wino on Obsessed and Spirit Caravan records. do some Wino material guitar lessons !hehe
Aris Sp I definitely want to, and plan on doing, some Wino lessons! There was a Reissue for sale here locally that got down to $900-I was dying to grab it but missed out.
Well goddamn
🤘🏻🐐🤘🏻
just bought the last one on reverb as of today...anyone run it at 18v? how is it?
I tried it on 18V but preferred it on 9V. I meant to compare them in the demo but forgot.
The pedal should come with 500g of weed
I don't have so much Money 😭
this sounds good?
This sounds good.
To some people yes. Maybe it's not your style, and that's ok too.
Ugh, i want one of these soo bad... and the company is gone. I might just have to take a monetary risk and get a sunless..
1000mods ...
I don’t mean to hate but It’s 3 minutes into the video and no pedal sound, just for the future l recommend to start with a little sound snippet (it maybe short) and then switch to explaining and then back to sound and knob turning, though respect for using looper
I’ve thought about adding a preview bumper like that. Thanks for the feedback. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
thank god the demo wasnt an hour long....
