Scott - I have used your window repair video and now your cruise control upgrade. I have the part now and know a mechanic with the software Hopefully “cruising” to the end of the install now.
Hi Scott thanks for the link, we gave it a good go yesterday but could not find tempomat and begrenzer. No worries I shall head along to a Merc main dealer when I get some down time. Take care Brian
+Scott Elliott The job came to a halt as I could not get the steering wheel bolt undone, it is tighter than a Ferret's arse. Going try again when I can recruit a spare pare of hands, other than that I was considering using an impact driver.
When I did my own Vito the bolt came out easily. My friends Vito in the video was tight. We used the long breaker bar with a pipe on the end to give even more torque. He held the steering wheel and I pulled on the pipe. The bolt has blue thread lock from the factory. That got it off but the impact gun was next on the list!
Hi there Scott, Thanks for the reply. I am going to recruit another pair of hands and try again with an extension bar on the ratchet, hopefully that will work. I am a little wary of using an impact gun as there are roller bearings in the steering column. If they were tapered then no problem but Hmmm...not so sure so going to use the path of least resistance first before bringing the big guns out to play.
I thought about the use of an impact gun and deduced it would be ok. Considering the impact is at right angles to the column that's were all the dynamic force is being directed.
Hi mate Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. I have just come back from an other independent mechanic who has from what I can see all the correct Mercedes software and hardware. He went into the ESP control module and found the Actuations but there was no sub menu Cruse Control for him to turn on. Is it possible that some of the on board computers do not have the Cruse programed into it? or do we need to turn on the actual cruse stalk switch while the software is going through the on board computer? He suggested if you could take a screen shot or give us some more information. This guy said he would really like to know how it was done or where he needs to go in the software to switch it on. I have one more independent fellow I can try on Tuesday when they service the van. If all else fails maybe I need to go for along road trip I have always wanted to drive over to Perth the wife and I would love the drive. By the way I have fitted the van out with a false floor so we can sleep in the back when we go camping. Anthony
Anthony I'll have a look and get back to you with some more information. You must have DAS in developer mode to activate it. Do you know if the guy has that?
Все супер, только на леворуких машинах все совсем по другому. И разметка на вырезание отверстия для к.к. также не подходит. А в общем все молодцы. Спасибо за видео .
Hi Scott, Thank you for the great video ! I am looking to install it on my 2007 manual Vito VIN : WDF63960313260718. I am wondering what are the difference between all the cruise control Stalk references you gave at 4:09 ? Regarding the accelerating pedal, I have a Bosch one 0 280 755 023 / A 906 300 04 04. Bosch 0 280 755 024 ? I have clutch switch installed. Thanks for your help. Jerome.
Thanks Jerome. The CC stalks have different part numbers for different models but they're the same. You don't need to do anything to the accelerator pedal. If you buy one of those part numbers and follow the video it will have cruise control and speed limiter.
Hi Scott. Like some others I've fitted the cruise stalk to my 2005 Vito and haven't had much luck getting it enabled. As per one of the other comments, they find all sorts of other problems that "may" need fixing before the cruise will work - one which is probably valid is a steering angle sensor fault that may just need calibrating - but once again can't be done without the diagnostic program. With the $$ spent already, I could have bought one of the aftermarket MB Star devices. I see that you bought just the hard drive option (got that from one of the Benz forums). Does that have to be fitted into a laptop or just loaded onto one? What I'm looking at is the C3 version and supposedly works with any laptop but has multiple leads, of which I probably only need the one to hook up between the unit and the vito and between the unit and PC. Any info gratefully received. Also where do I find the diagnostic port in a Vito? Thanks in advance.
Neil the hard drive version is standalone which is why it can be handy. You can plug it into any computer and run DAS/Xentry. You should be able to take the Vito to a MB Dealer and get it activated. They normally charge around $AUD150 to $AUD250. They do it all the time when they retrofit. Some get annoyed with we DIY types but there are some reasonable businesses out there who will do the activation without getting their noses out of joint. You'll probably need to join www.mhhauto.com to download an earlier version of DAS/Xentry. The later versions have been locked down so much it's not much better than generic software that reads trouble code. Start off with the Chinese system to learn then get 10-2008 up to 01-2011. For a RHD Vito the OBD port is on the RHS under the dash above the accelerator pedal.
I followed this tutorial step by step , and it works perfectly. It’s easy with the measurements. Thank you very much sir. Ps: i used the second tempomat part code A203 545 12 24.
Hi Scott! The two dropbox links containing the cruicial software activation instructions (if I'm guessing right) seem to be blocked/banned. (error 429) The error messsage says : "The person who shared it hit their daily limit of traffic or downloads. " Maybe someone @ MB may not have liked the idea of cheap home DIY retrofit, and requested a permanent ban @ Dropbox? Can you please try to re-share the content of the two dropbox shares. That way we could see if it's a permanent ban, or just really a simple daily limit. Thanks! David
Hello nice video. Only thing that no chance to get star diagnostic. Any chance for you to activate it? Where are you based i wouldnt mind to come down if you could activate it
Hello Scott, in the my radio original don’t present the engineering menù for activate retro camera, you have the code to insert in the radio for activate this. Thank you
Hi Scott - back again. What lead do you use between your PC and the OBD port? I can't seem to find a suitable lead. Plenty that plug into an actual multiplexer and one ethernet to OBD for BMW, but nothing relating to Mercedes. Thanks in advance.
I use a USB to serial port adapter to connect the PC to the multiplexer. The cable from the multiplexer has the OBD2 plug on the end. www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-to-RS232-Serial-Port-9-Pin-DB9-Cable-COM-Port-Adapter-Convertor-For-CH340-/282546793194?hash=item41c919eaea:g:QuQAAOSwvTBZtjQV
Hi ScottLove the video on the cruise control retrofit. I have purchased the cruse stalk from a local euro car wrecker here in Sydney and fitted it in no time. Now the hard part has been to find someone with the appropriate software and the willingness to have a look and give it a go. Could I be so bold as to ask where you live in Australia? and if you are close enough could we meet up and get it switched on. I have had all sorts of excuses thrown at me like, if the vehicle wasn't fitted with cruse the computer will need to be up graded and that job will take at least 3 hours to do just leave the van with us for the day. Yes we service all euro cars but that's a commercial vehicle and we don't have the software for them. So on and on the excuses and un willingness to help. Or if you know any one here in Sydney that can help.Regards Anthony
Hi Anthony, I'm glad the installation went well. The Vito is already set up for CC as you've discovered. Don't believe any of the nonsense about new control units etc. People are full of opinions but light on with facts and evidence. I've done five W639's from 2003 to 2007 and they all took five minutes to activate. The DAS/Xentry software is for all MB's ... cars, vans, buses, trucks etc. We're going to need a long extension cord because I'm in Western Australia. Take the Vito to a dealer as they have the Xentry/DAS software. Unless the independent Euro guys have Xentry/DAS you'll be wasting your time. The Dealer will get you to sign a disclaimer form as they won't take responsibility for the fitting of the stalk. Ring around first but you'll find at least one who won't have their nose out of joint. Most of them hate the fact some of us can DIY. It should cost you about $150 to $200 for them to activate it. Let us know how you go. Scott
Hi Anthony, I am in Sydney and have had similar issues. Got charged $295 today for SCN coding by MB dealer in South to enable the CC, but they claim it didn't activate, they want me to bring the vehicle back and do more investigation as to inop. The physical install was done properly and the yellow light comes on and off when you push the stalk in and out. None of the 20 independent's I have tried in Sydney will touch it with a barge pole.
First of all, thank you for the instructions. I bought the cruise control two days ago for about 30$. And now I found out that it hasnt got this little resistence for adjusting 1 km/h and the point behind this resistence. Now my question: Does this cruise control a 10 km/h difference when you push it up or only 1km/h? Thank you the answer!
A quick touch up or down will adjust by 1km/hr. What part number is it? It should have two stage resistance as Mercedes have been doing it for years. Perhaps the resistance point is broken. Scott
Scott Elliott Hi Scott, Its the part number 203 545 11 24 7C45 LS 203 224 Q 01. I havnt built it in sofar but in this State in seems to have no resistence point. Should I feel this point even when it is Not Build in?
Joniboni that's a good question. The two stage mechanism probably only works once installed. It's the right part number so put it in. Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Scott.
Another thing the resistance spring is quite strong. Another reason why the switch needs to be securely fastened before you can move the lever past that point. Scott
Thanks for the compliment. I don't know if the face-lift model changed the steering column and switch. You need to have a look at both to compare. I would guess it will be the same as it was only a face-lift change. Look for some images of the interior or perhaps find a present face lift model to compare with yours. Go to www.benzworld.org as someone may know. Scott.
I had a quick look and the part number listed for a 2012 facelift version is A203 545 02 24. So the same method should work. The steering column assembly is the same. Scott
Hi Scott, Great video and very useful! A quick question regarding other models of stalks, the A203 545 11 24 aren't too common however the A203 545 12 24 stalk is cheap and readily available. Would this be a suitable alternative? Many thanks, Dan

Scott just spoke to James who was helping me earlier this morning he tells me that he was I the developer mode but a lot of the menus were in German and we could not see any thing that resembled cruise control.
ok. You do need to use a version pre 01-2011. The later versions had a lot of things taken out. The Dealer will be able to do it for you as they retro fit CC all the time. They'll have to go online to get SCN codes from Germany as Mercedes have locked things down so much. I'd reckon you make a few calls to some Dealers. Hopefully you'll find a sensible one. The one closest to me quoted $150 when I asked just for information purposes.
Scott Elliott ok thanks i will ask James if he has 2011 or earlier. He told me he had up to 2016 so if he was using that one maybe that was the problem. Thanks for all your help today I will let you know how we go.
Hi Scoot, First thanks for this video. I've some questions before to start. I have a 06 - 115 vito (OM646 DE22LA 110KW (150CH)) - left hand drive So don't need to disconnect the battery and remove the airbag ? Concerning the clutch pedal, I'm not sure I understood that part... What shall we do? ( I've a manual) Regards
Disconnecting the battery is always a good idea. You can disconnect the airbag if you wish but we found it wasn't necessary. Leave the clutch pedal as it should already have the switch that disconnects the CC when you touch the pedal.
+Scott Elliott, Not for the model you are working on this video, is the same model as mine including the radio, and i tried every way, in the internet and the Mercedes-Benz over here, but they ran out. If you notice a link or even a .pdf file i´ll appreciate.
Hi Scott, Could you please share your thoughts if retrofitting of Distronic to w639 is a viable idea? Distronic is installed on the similar year (2010-2014) passenger cars, but I haven't heard about it on V-class prior to w447. Do you think w639 SAM supports this feature?
I've interrogated the SCN coding on my W639 and have seen no reference to the Distronic on my 2006. Knowing what these Mercedes are like I feel it would be a difficult project unless the ECU and other modules are already programmed for it.
Hi Scott. Another great video! I've installed the stalk successfully and I see the stalk via Star / Xentry, but am unable to activate it? How do you access Xentry in developer mode? Also, I think the Xentry software might be a later version as I'm unable to follow your instructions since the menu a bit different, unless it's because I'm not in developer mode? I will greatly appreciate any assistance.
Thanks for the compliment. You need to use an earlier version of DAS not Xentry. I use 01-2011. You have to have developer mode for sure. The later versions of Xentry are getting close to useless as MB have locked so much out. They're basically a fault code and data reader. You may have to take the van to the dealer to get it activated if you can't get an earlier version of DAS.
Scott Elliott Thanx so much for such a prompt response and it's only a pleasure. Your instructional videos have taught me so much and saved me a lot of money. I'll try to get hold of the older version. I've ask the dealer already and instead they told me it couldn't be done as they 1st had to correct other issues and be charged an arm and both legs. Is there a specific way to enter administrator mode? Or will there just be an additional icon in the older version I should look out for? Again thanks for the assist and all the great videos. I anxiously wait for your videos for the Vito to see what I can tackle next if anything. ( my faded lights are next on the list)...
You need to generate a pass code to access the developer mode in DAS. That requires the key generator software. If your computer savvy join www.mhhauto.com for $USD25 one off fee. You can download versions of DAS back to the first one 10-2008. all the key generators and tutorials are there. It takes a while to get a handle on it all but it will keep dementia at bay! alternatively find an independent with the software and get them to activate the CC. In DAS you have to go to the variant coding for the vehicle and a list comes up with all the features and options fitted. In the list you select CC fitted. It's too hard to explain. Perhaps I can do a follow up video showing how to do it in 01-2011 DAS but the majority of people don't have the diagnostics at home. I doubt if many people would watch it. An independent shouldn't charge more than about $150.
Scott Elliott I've joined Mhhauto. will look for the version of software you used. I'll keep you updated And I'll try to a video of it, maybe it'll help someone like me and help complete the entire process. ( will be my 1st RUclips video 😂 if I do manage to pull it off). Thanx again Scott!
Hi Scott, Awesome Video ! I asked my local MB repair center yesterday about activating my CC software & got a bizarre reply today ... Can you please send me an email so i can ask a question about this install that i would prefer not be put up on here ? Kind Regards, Stuart

First thanks for this video. I've some questions before to start.
I have a 06 - 115 vito (OM646 DE22LA 110KW (150CH)) - left hand drive
So don't need to disconnect the battery and remove the airbag ?
Concerning the clutch pedal, I'm not sure I understood that part... What shall we do? ( I've a manual)
Regards
Disconnecting the battery is always a good idea. You can disconnect the airbag if you wish but we found it wasn't necessary.
Leave the clutch pedal as it should already have the switch that disconnects the CC when you touch the pedal.
Hi Scott, I was thinking on doing this on my Viano 639 4matic 2.2 cdi Marco Polo 2005 do you think that's doable ?
Yes of course. I've done this on four Vitos.
where can i buy cruise control for vito w639 ? thanks
From online breaking/wrecking stores on ebay. Search the part numbers and you'll find some.
do you have the link for this please ?
No links sorry. Do a search in eBay for the part number and you should find some.

ok thank you
It´s the owners manual Scott
+Fernando Rafael I've seen downloadable pdf owners manuals on the Mercedes Benz websites.
If your computer savvy join
www.mhhauto.com for $USD25 one off fee. You can download versions of DAS
back to the first one 10-2008. all the key generators and tutorials are
there. It takes a while to get a handle on it all but it will keep
dementia at bay! alternatively find an independent with the software and
get them to activate the CC.
Kind Regards, Stuart
sorry , forgot my email ... livingcolour@hotmail.com
I've been watching fondly from turkey. Do you do test drive? Do you need software to the brain?
+fatko cesi Fatko ... yes we did the test drive. It worked very well exactly as it should. Yes it needs to be activated with the Mercedes STAR software.
your video is good but almost can't hear your voice..
+Ariel Lazareto Thanks. I did check the volume after I uploaded and it all seems to work fine. Regards, Scott
