Great video Peter. Nice to know I have four of your top ten kits. The Miniart P-47, the Arma Hobbies Hurricane, Academy A-10 and the Meng F-4G. I agree with you about Airfix and the Gannet. Not a big fan of the aircraft and it seems strange that Airfix would have chosen it. I can't imagine the popularity of the kit will be significant outside the UK. Another great video Peter, congrats on your channel which is quickly becoming one of my favorite modelling channels! I love the "real-time" nature of the videos, your upbeat sense of humor, and the sensible assessments of the kits. Now, why did the Airfix Fairey Gannett not make the list? Speaking of problematic plastics, I'm currently building 2 Revell kits from the mid 70's, both made in England and both 1/32nd scale. The Spitfire Mk 1 is a slightly translucent beige/tan plastic which is extremely brittle and reacts badly to the SMS paints that I use. Not all of it reacts, but some of it goes quite lumpy. Many of the thin parts have broken, especially the mounts for the ailerons and rudder. The gaps between the wing roots and fuselage are massive. I wonder whether the wings have shrunk. The gap was up to 5mm and needed plastic glued inside the wings to give me something to support the putty. The Ju87B Stuka is a medium grey plastic which is actually quite nice. The only problem I'm having with it is the ejector pin marks in awkward places, especially right next to areas with lots of rivets. As all the rivets are raised, and there are lots of them, it is a real pain. But at least the wings are a good fit and will only require a very light fill to hide the joins.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I didn't know they were Matchbox kits. The Stuka certainly doesn't seem like any Matchbox kit I ever made. I don't remember any of them having so much rivet detail, but then I only made the 1/76 scale kits. I haven't started painting the Stuka yet, but the plastic is totally different to the Spitfire, so hopefuly will be OK. I'm also having fun with a Hasegawa TWR XJS which is causing lots of paint issues with some parts, mainly the interior. Similar issue to the Spitfire, but only with the white plastic. The grey parts are fine.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab The Stuka doesn't seem to have been made by Matchbox, at least according to Scalemates. I can't find my old Matchbox catalogues to confirm that. The Matchbox Spitfire is a Mk 22/24 and was done in about 1976. Mine is a Mk 1 and seems to be an original 1967 release.
like your list a lot, i have some of the Arma Hobby Hurricanes, but in 1/72...would like to get a Mk II D, but i really don´t like resin parts nor PE hehe
Gannets a fine choice and looking forward to building that at some stage. Unfortunately the LMS got the kits but not the pricing from Airfix so they could not sell it to me. I have built a few in 1/72 and they always garner interest at the tables at our meetings. A Jag will be along some time soon. No panic. You should start building more TBH and reviewing those kits as some kits can look lovely in the box but are dogs to build. Nearly picked up the Kinetic Shar before exmas but every time I hear you voice saying Noooooooooooo. I Enjoy the Videos and Happy new year to you.
Well l have absolutely enjoyed my first year subscribing to your channel, so l got it wrong with the 1st and 2nd even though l got the FW 190 and yes it's a great kit, l'm itching to start it l think it will be later in the year when my skills have improved but what year that is the question but it's one of those kits you just love to own, shocked 😲by Airfix what on earth are they thinking of anyway have a great new year and all the best for 2024 for you and your family 👍
Thanks Barry! Appreciate your support, and enjoy the FW190, I will hope to build mine in the next 12 month, after the Mosquito. Have a healthy & happy 2024! 🎉🍾🥂
Cheers from NZ for all the great vids throughout the year. I haven't been into modelling for quite a while,0 but your vids are slowly getting me around to starting again, though Wargaming are just too good at keeping me into World of Tanks 🙄. Anyway, enjoy the "champagne", currently I'm on Sheppard & Neame's Bishops Finger Ale, getting ready for the family BBQ tomorrow.
Great video and Happy New Year Peter. I generally agreed with your rankings and your rationale behind them. The only one of these I have is the Academy A-10C and I was very impressed. Was I disappointed the cannon wasn't visible? A little but I can live with it. And for whatever it's worth, my #1 kit of the year of the 53 I purchased is Polar Lights 1:350 Klingon Kronos 1 Battlecruiser. Cheers and an Uber after the champagne 😉

@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I enjoyed this top.10. Of the top 3 I had 2 in my stash and the only reason I don't have the fw190 is I don't care for that plane. I'm a 109 guy myself of which I have the 1/32 from that maker. Of all those on your list I'm looking forward to that Arma Hurricane (my favorite British fighter of WW2) and the ICM Sally bc it was a Christmas gift from my wife and she just guessed I'd like it...I have hundreds and hundreds of kits and the fact she randomly chose that kit, such a high level kit, when I have so very few ICM (maybe 10) of their kits on my shelves is astounding. That kit was no where near a wishlist she'd know of. Just a good guess on her part. I'm not looking forward to all the windows....140 you say?
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab lol. I've never built a trumpeter but I have many in my stash as they cover many, especially ships, that no one else does in scales I want. I'm looking at adding to my 1/350 ship kit stash and there are few options. Even if I went 1/700 the vast majority are water line kits and I'm not interested in those.
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I did some research and you are correct. Reviews are not super hot for the Trumpeter ships which is a bummer as I have several kits (not a top priority to build save for an Assault ship the U.S.S. Iwo Jima - hoping that one is good!). I wish Tamiya would do more 1/350 ships. I'm beginning to understand your...constructive criticism...in regards to Tamiya needing to do a bit more.
As for kits to build in 2024, I had already decided to go for ICM Ov-10 Bronco (firsti ICM kit), and then go from there. And then a wild Oxley reviewed the 'Goulash kanone' and blimey, this bugger has to hit my bench as well. Even though the looks of 'Fat Amy' is not my cup of tea, but I am a Tam-boy, so what will go wrong? Anyway, happy new year everone.
fair comment on airfix and all manufactures. do you look at the price range when you take into account when choosing kits as budgets are getting tighter.
Very fair Peter... 😃 I haven't built any of the newer ICM kits, though bI do intend to have a go at some of their new helicopter range - that's an area I'd had little interest in until this summer.....I'll get to it! 😉 I started the year (2023) with the Tamiya F-35A (with an aftermarket RAF Lakenheath decal set) and at the time it was the best kit that I've ever put together - the painting of certain areas was the only 'tricky' part. AS far as engineering goes, it's the best; it's almost Lego brick style in the way it fits together; even the small fiddly detail parts - of which, there are many! Fabulous! After that, I turned to an Italeri 1/48th F-15E Lakenheath edition kit....I was attracted by the Lakenheath schemes as I live near, and work on, RAF Lakenheath... Oh My God...What a PIG of a kit! Not two parts would fit properly!!! It was a shocker....the upper and lower fuselage halves are of different lengths and barely match up; the cockpit details barely fit, and the whole;e thing is a joke...I did however persevere and managed to bash it together, and from about 4 feet away it looks 'OK'.... 😂 I was building an Airfix Seaking 1/72 scale kit during the summer as who doesn't love a Sea king? Fond memories of them recovering the Apollo astronauts after the Moon flights in the early '70s! 😉 Anyway, as I was building that, Airfix suddenly announced their NEW 1/48 version!!!! It looked amazing, so I pre-ordered it immediately! Whilst waiting for the new Sea King, I started an ancient Revell (1959) HMS Victory which actually came out looking great! Bloody rigging drives you nuts, but I got there, and then finally started the 1/48 Sea King....... Just on the home straight now and have the rotor blades to finish....My God what an amazing kit this Sea King is! So beautifully detailed, and the fit of parts is 'almost' up there with the Tamiya F-35A - 'Almost' because there's there's a more complex structure build for the Sea King, and it does need a bit of clamping/holding to get the parts to fit firmly, but that's just normal modelling, right? 😉 So after all this long post (sorry!), for me, THE kit of the year is obviously the 1/48th Sea King, with the F-35A very close behind - I think the Sea King gets it because there's more actual 'modelling' involved and it looks fabulous (probably MY best finished model from over 50 years!)....Having said all that, I will without shadow of doubt be getting the new Tamiya F-35B... 😉 So yeah, congrats to Tamiya for a fabulous F-35, but BIG congrats to Airfix for the unexpected and seriously good Sea King kit! 👍 👍 🥳
Both ICM and Miniart have knocked the ball out of the park given the terrible situation they have worked under. They really deserve our support - buy kits from them to show that you care!!
I wish ICM would use harder plastic, it is soft, and even Tamiya's extra thin dissolves it too soon. I await the time they produce jets through the years. AirFix should release a Jaguar jet, they were used in UK service, and many schemes.
Really like your top ten choices. Very fair! Where did you rank Eduard's 109K-4? Probably not entirely new, but nevertheless excellent kit. So, where does your English "champagne" rank in top ten champagnes? And, next year, will you be trying a French "ale"? : )
Interesting video - I wonder if you could say what your 1/72 aircraft of the year is? You review a number even if I realise 1/48+ gives more "complete" models. Thanks!
Trumpeter ship models may go together well but their design team seems to think US war ships have the hull of a garbage scow. I am talking about the USS Missouri specifically. I avoid Trumpeter now
Hi Peter I hope your new year is good and that your 2024 is as good as any. Just a point about Airfix that should be brought out in the open. Airfix never take money out of your account until the item is despatched and so the quote they shouldn't take your money before you get the product needs to be addressed. I understand that ICM is a prolific release kit company and they are doing extremely well under their present circumstances as you have stated But I also think Airfix have released a high number of kits that are top quality and this has not been brought in the open by your video. I am not an Airfix fanboy and have had issues in the past with Airfix myself but I think as a company and the quality of the product they are producing is moving in the right direction. I want to make a note as I think it's easy to put down things rather than build things up. I would like to see a video from you stating what you really like in modelling , there must be something about this hobby that keeps you coming back. I would love to see a video about your likes. I liked to see your builds you feature on this clip (Nice work)
Sorry John, you are wrong: AIRFIX DID indeed take the charge from people’s credit cards 2 weeks BEFORE they despatched, as I clearly stated. They have even now apologised…see my Buccaneer review vid.
I don't like to knock them, but this year they really underperformed in my view: More like Crewe FC than Man U...Come on Airfix, YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS! 😳
Awesome video! Loved every minute of it. Solid Top 10 list, cheers!

like your list a lot, i have some of the Arma Hobby Hurricanes, but in 1/72...would like to get a Mk II D, but i really don´t like resin parts nor PE hehe
Fair enough! I know what you mean. 👍🏻
Brilliant video happy new year peter🤪
Same to you Sir! 🎉🍾🥂
Cheers Peter, happy New Year to you
Same to you! 🎉👍🏻🥂
Great video, hope to get my FW190 next week. I was one of the new subscribers this year and enjoying your content! Happy new year and see you in 2024!
Thanks, you too! 👍🏻
Very healthy, & a happy new year.
Cool, thanks! BBQ? You lucky Antipodeans! 👍🏻🎉 All the best for '24
Happy New Year Mr Oxley and all the best to you in 2024 🙏🥂🎉🎈🎊
Cheers Pete! Same to you and good luck with your move! 👍🏻🎉🥂
Hi again Pete if I was to build a Phantom I think it would be a Meng kit....
Looking forward to this one. Always a good finish to the year with Peter and the ' Kits of the Year Show '..👍👍
Always an outstanding video and presentation
Thanks again! 👍🏻 Happy New Year! ☺️
What is best ICM kit that you have built?
Mig 25 Foxbat, (1/72) but I suspect the more recent ones are even better.
It would be great if some of the things you recommended had links in your description. Maybe be an affiliate so you got a kickback and maybe shared some coupons from places that offered them to your subscribers. I really want to see your channel succeed. I am a collector who dearly misses the hobby shops of my youth. I am building my own hobby shop in my garage for my son so he can experience a hobby shop like atmosphere. Cheers!
I will look at that and maybe add that...but I reviewed every kit in the top 10 on the channel thus year...
@@JM7284...130 windows. 😖
Happy New Year!
Same to you! 🎉👍🏻
Happy New Year 🎉
Happy new year Daniel!🎆🎉
Hey Peter - Nice chatting with you during the Apollo 11 video from Steve.
Do you have any experience with I Love Kit models?
I don't But I think they are owned by Trumpeter...which makes me very nervous...😖
I'll definitely be doing the Meng Phantom in the new year. It looks superb. Have a happy new year everyone!
Great channel Pete. How about a review of ICM's 1/32 Henschel HS-123 and a release date. Keep up the good work.
Soon...all will be revealed. 😉👍🏻
I’m in the states, at least you have kit manufacturers to fuss at. 😂
The into gave me flashbacks to watching Macros or Robotech in Canada as a young lad lol
Happy new year.
Happy new year to you to! 👍🏻🎉
fair comment on airfix and all manufactures. do you look at the price range when you take into account when choosing kits as budgets are getting tighter.
Yes my 'Marks out of 10' rating at the end of each review very much considers the price. 👍🏻
Very fair Peter... 😃
I haven't built any of the newer ICM kits, though bI do intend to have a go at some of their new helicopter range - that's an area I'd had little interest in until this summer.....I'll get to it! 😉
I started the year (2023) with the Tamiya F-35A (with an aftermarket RAF Lakenheath decal set) and at the time it was the best kit that I've ever put together - the painting of certain areas was the only 'tricky' part.
I was building an Airfix Seaking 1/72 scale kit during the summer as who doesn't love a Sea king? Fond memories of them recovering the Apollo astronauts after the Moon flights in the early '70s! 😉
Anyway, as I was building that, Airfix suddenly announced their NEW 1/48 version!!!!
So after all this long post (sorry!), for me, THE kit of the year is obviously the 1/48th Sea King, with the F-35A very close behind - I think the Sea King gets it because there's more actual 'modelling' involved and it looks fabulous (probably MY best finished model from over 50 years!)....Having said all that, I will without shadow of doubt be getting the new Tamiya F-35B... 😉
So yeah, congrats to Tamiya for a fabulous F-35, but BIG congrats to Airfix for the unexpected and seriously good Sea King kit! 👍 👍 🥳
Thanks Steve...but you really need to get a F-35B (even better!) and ZM FW190. 😉 Happy New Year! 🍾🥂🎉
Ohh, a mention in the Meng Phantom segment. 😃 Happy new year all.
All the best Dave! 👍🏻🎉
Both ICM and Miniart have knocked the ball out of the park given the terrible situation they have worked under. They really deserve our support - buy kits from them to show that you care!!
I agree, though You may not be aware that Miniart have now moved to Poland.👍🏻
PS I liked your top ten countdown and I think it wasn't a bad list
thank you for the wonderful show. however the orange crown is unbecoming of a bond super evil Villain.
Yes indeed...but was soon eliminated. 😉
Happy New year to all my fellow glue sniffers may everyone enjoy a year of gluing small parts to your fingers lol
Cheers
Interesting video - I wonder if you could say what your 1/72 aircraft of the year is? You review a number even if I realise 1/48+ gives more "complete" models. Thanks!
Will be good 👍.
NIKS MYSTERY BOX ON GARYS STUFF HERE, THE BEST INTRO I HAVE SEEN ALL YEAR. WELL DONE PETER AND HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE TO EVERYONE
Great review Pete but why do you wear those black gloves ?
I was handling my models. (Not to metion champagne!) I removed the gloves near the end.
Magic chemicals for Eduard decals is white spirit.
Think I would rather use a conventional decal...
Only reason I liked the Gannet is because I was on Ark Royal ours was the AEW ver.
Trumpeter ship models may go together well but their design team seems to think US war ships have the hull of a garbage scow. I am talking about the USS Missouri specifically. I avoid Trumpeter now

Hi Peter
I hope your new year is good and that your 2024 is as good as any.
Don't hold back on the champagne 😀
I am helping myself to it this time! 🎉🍾🥂
Don’t hold back on the rant!

Twist the bottle, not the cork!
Good advice! 👍🏻
Airfix think there the man utd of model kits but they arnt performing well need to up there game peter
I don't like to knock them, but this year they really underperformed in my view: More like Crewe FC than Man U...Come on Airfix, YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS! 😳
You only had your hat on for 14 minutes and about 7 seconds
I confess...it was a cheap, nasty hat this year...like the kit releases...a tad disappointing!
