  • This Panther Ausf.G. with turret number 111 originally came from Pz.Regt I./24 and was with Pz.Regt I./16 when it was knocked out. According to statements by veterans of the 116th PD and residents the tank fell over due to detonation pressure by dropped bombs into the Ourthe river and landed on the turret. Other sources say there never was any bombing on the day when the tank was driving over the bridge and it dropped into the river because of bridge failure, the damaged to the bottom of the tank was done by American soldiers looking for souvenirs. The crew of the Panther either way died because of the impact or drowned. This Panther was recovered out of the river Ourthe by French engineers on 20th September 1947. the remains of the crew killed in the attack were discovered when the Panther was pulled from the river. The Panther saved by the major of Wibrin that wanted several tanks to be placed as tourist spots for the future. Over time wheels and other bits were sold to tourist and the tank was left to the elements. It was taken to the Bastogne Barracks Museum in 2017 for restoration, it was then shipped to the The Krings Collection in Germany to restore the suspension system, tracks and wheels. And was shipped back in 2023 to Houffalize and was placed under a newly built roof adjacent to a small museum free to visit.

Beautifully done restoration on the Panther. A Comfort to the Crew who remains with their Armored Charger. Time has passed and the drumbeats of War have faded. The sounds of everyday Life going on around the Silent Reminder are a fitting Tribute. Thank you for this video.

Yes they really went all the way for this tank, but I think upkeep seems to be really non at all in this region, because the front deck plates were already extremly dirty for something that's under a roof.

I don't know I can't find any pictures that show them like this, but If they did it this way it was probably what it looked like in 45. It would have been a crew applied cross because the factory would place them at the front of the hull side panels.
