- Susan Jacks was a regular performer on Music Hop (Let's Go) from the age of 15, soon to be 16. In the spring of 1966, she and Terry met for the first time when he appeared as a guest on Music Hop for the filming of a tribute to the British invasion. Susan was 17 and Terry was 22. That fall, Susan would happen to ask Terry to accompany her on rhythm guitar for an engagement she had. The Poppy Family would evolve over the next few months when Craig McCaw joined them on lead guitar, later introducing Satwant Singh to complete their signature sound.
Susan Jacks should be ranked in the top 50 greatest female voices of all time. The term underrated needs her picture next to it.
She had an incredible voice, and the fact that she was only 16 when she did this show is just amazing.
🔵SUSAN HAD A GREAT BEAUTIFUL VOICE! TERRY WASN'T BAD EITHER.🔴
pretty lady.
wow…
heard that voice somewhere else over the ages but never had an idea where it came from.
knew of terry jacks but this voice of hers is haunting.😮
Listening to Susan today brought tears to my eyes. RIP Susan Jacks.
Did not know she had passed away.
Susan Jack was very beautiful 😍 ❤
I loved their hits, but this video really shows just what a great a voice she had.
I recorded “That’s Where I Went Wrong” off of AM radio onto my dads Sears reel to reel in 69 or 70 and even though the sound was awful I played it countless times. I finally got to Wallacs Music City and bought the 45 and “Which Way You Going Billy” I was truly enchanted by her and her voice. I never thought to stalk her though (I was 13 years old);
Susan was top shelf , skilled and talented for sure. What a great voice - RIP baby
Susan had everything... including the spooky magic of being able to fundamentally connect with a 9 year old
listening to a pocket transistor radio. A voice and soul comparable only to the very best. Thank you for sharing your gift with us Susan, you are loved.
Her life is through now, but will never b forgotten! She'll forever live in her music.
it is so sad to hear that Susan Jacks has passed away , such a beautiful voice...........our condolences to her family
RIP Susan Jacks.
performers singing in their own voice. what a concept.
Unforgetable time.Beautiful voice.Thsnk you for posting.
That girl could sing! And I love the "flip" hairdo of the times. Ahhh, the 60's........
Never saw this before and I been around. He is good but I LOVE HER. Wow.
Susan
Jack's is only the world's best female vocalist of all time.
A beautiful voice.
How awesome is this 💜💜💜💜
can i swear? i fookin love this
Susan did a hell of a job, especially considering she was only 16 and 17 years old here when she did these shows.
R.I.P. Susan Jacks
They were very underrated.
Sorry we’ve lost her. Their Music was epitome of innocence before many things broke loose. Graduating HS in 67 and then college til’ 71 was indeed a cultural evolution and upheaval to experience. I love my life today in 2022 but man those years were f’n great for the young at many levels. As has been said, “ the best of times and the worst of times”. Damn that war. Will today prove to be similar for another 72 year old man in the future.
Good cover.
This was very enjoyable and informative both very talented and confident pat
they went on to make some great music..hope 2017 is a happy and healthy year for Terry and Susan
I was just trying to do the math to figure out if we had actually been to the moon at that time....lovely song beautifully sung....thats one small step for MAN, one giant LEAP for WOMEN of ROCK!
Good Bye Susan Jacks
Man, this is way more fun than the law allows. The capper is "Seasons in the Sun" Terry Jacks singing The Stones' "Get Off My Cloud" at 8:00 here.
Hermosa canción 😍
L O V E SADNESS SURROUNDS IT ALL.
Rip : Susan Jacks nee Pesklevits (19 August 1948 - 25 April 2022)
Fast forward this video to 5:05 and then again to 7:28 Susan Jacks was far more than "just" the woman who sang 'Which way you going Billy'. She was awesome. Canada's greatest female vocalist of all time yet few even know she existed.
Totally agree with you!
Terry Jacks is soooo cute💖
She was a league above him
haha he wrote all their songs
And the flower blossomed into a rose.
Wow, Reggae Seekers! :D
Ha-ha. Thinkin' the same.
She was 18 here.
She was 17 here. She would not turn 18 until August if this year.
Your references are impeccable....reminds me of a song by the Buckinghams...
Did Music Hop change it's name to Let's Go?
This is a fantastic set...been converting a lot of their early performances this last few days from Mono sound to Stereo with great success..working on this video set now & the audio tracks separated very well with great Stereo reproduction throughout...I hope you do not mind me re-posting it in Stereo very ..just putting in all the information on Susan & Terry & the song list..this is the link.. ruclips.net/video/kN8Uyzx_wpU/видео.html you could comment on what you think of it.I will credit this site..thanks so much .Kelly in Regina,Saskatchewan

Not a fan of how they made him look into the camera and did everything possible to NOT have HER look into the camera - oh my how times have changed ;-)
Yeah, there's a crucial distinction. lol
No clue what you are talking about.
this was the year the chessmen broke up. "wild thing" did NOT seem to terrys type of song!
And to think in 1965/1966 Terry played a wild version of No Blood Out Of Bone. I think Terry wasn't getting into it because the band backing him is so flat and dead.
Terry's version of "No Blood In Bone" was done with the Chessmen and was very much in the style of the early 60s. The Poppy Family put their collective spin on it to bring it to the psychedelic style of the late 60s.
Hey WOW man, I'll bet if Terry had just sung "Hey YOU, leggo my EGGO ", they could've got some sponsorship out of it...(but that brand waffle hadn't been introduced yet)
Terry - NO! Susan - YES! He cannot sing those songs, he sounds awful. She can sing anything and sound good!
Terry's voice wasn't his talent, his composing skills were his biggest talent and shone in the late '60s and into the '70s. That said, when he sang I'm Gonna Love You Too he did a credible job with his version and sold more records than Buddy Holly did with the original. And on his own songs; If You Go Away, Concrete Sea, and of course Seasons In The Sun his light, wispy vocals define the songs and make them his.
Susan sure knocked it out of the park on Tobacco Road.😄
I love them both...
Wow. Way to fast
Yes, left me wanting more also.
You could tell Terry hated this.
Terry actually enjoyed it.
@@susanjacks5990 Susan. One of my all time 10 favorite songs is the beautiful one you and Terry sang together. Which Way You Going Billy. It touched my heart as a 9 year old boy and does so today. Thank you.
@@1964rocks Terry didn't sing on Which Way You Goin' Billy. Susan sang all the background vocals.
Hey WOW man, I was going to make a joke about Seekers and "I know I'll never find another EWE", but ALL of YOU are the real deal.!(TOTALLY AWESOME)
Terry Jacks beat her
A couple of those songs she should have stayed away from, specifically the cover of Dusty Springfield's song and Judith Durham's. She is good but not in their league and the comparison is right there for anybody to make.
I don't know enough to debate you, but another one of my favorite singers wanted to be more like Dusty Springfield, but the group Shocking Blue wanted her to be more like Gracie Slick....I think at some point she gained more control as we entered into the Disco Era.
I do - and he's right. Dusty and Judith were the two best female singers on the planet.
