I agree with IG. Firstly we should not use this reason to hate Astro bot. It is an amazing game, but Wukong deserved better. Here is my analysis. Astrobot is like a Rajni film, it gives a wholesome experience, has a good story and unique puzzles, and is suitable for audiences from all backgrounds and ages. But Wukong is like a Kamal film where it has a deep story, good cultural representation, and great philosophy. However many felt the combat style to be monotone and the narrative not inclusive to a wider set of audience. "Game of the year" gives equal weightage to both narrative and gameplay for a wider range of audience. This is called "Ludo narrative harmony". Sadly, Astrobot had more points than Wukong in this. However as IG said, if Wukong had won, that would've encouraged many countries to invest confidently in video games. Don't get me wrong, many countries would still encourage after seeing Wukong's commercial success. But winning an award tonight would have been like how the Indian filmmaking style changed after AR Rahman won at the Oscars. So, I still stand with Wukong, but could understand why Astrobot won.

I agree with IG. Firstly we should not use this reason to hate Astro bot. It is an amazing game, but Wukong deserved better. Here is my analysis.
Astrobot is like a Rajni film, it gives a wholesome experience, has a good story and unique puzzles, and is suitable for audiences from all backgrounds and ages. But Wukong is like a Kamal film where it has a deep story, good cultural representation, and great philosophy. However many felt the combat style to be monotone and the narrative not inclusive to a wider set of audience.
"Game of the year" gives equal weightage to both narrative and gameplay for a wider range of audience. This is called "Ludo narrative harmony". Sadly, Astrobot had more points than Wukong in this. However as IG said, if Wukong had won, that would've encouraged many countries to invest confidently in video games. Don't get me wrong, many countries would still encourage after seeing Wukong's commercial success. But winning an award tonight would have been like how the Indian filmmaking style changed after AR Rahman won at the Oscars.
So, I still stand with Wukong, but could understand why Astrobot won.
