More details... The Post Office building shown dates from about the 1980's. In the 60's and 70's (at least), the Post Office was located in part of a building on the corner across from the Hotel. The main street was not gutted by fire as implied. Up into the 80's, both side of the street were lined by buildings. As these buildings were empty, they became derelict and were taken down one by one. I believe I recognize the building identified as as the community hall concession stand as the former Harry's Drive-In, which stood on a V-shaped lot at the corner of Government Road and Railway Street in Davidson, serving soft ice cream, burgers and fries during summer to generations of local kids. In my mind, the fact that Bladworth exists has much more to do with the generations of local farm men, women, boys and girls who worked like Pharoh's slaves, and to the local business people and teachers who supported them. Stewart Northcott, mentioned below, was the subject of the Clint Eastwood directed 2008 movie, Changeling. Thanks for the 200+ small town Saskatchewan videos! Truly a labour of love.
Thorsby. Your reply was mislaid by the RUclips along with a few score more correspondences. They just appeared, some dating to 6 years ago. Where they were hidden, I don't know. Anyway, thanks for all the info on Bladworth. I had guessed that fire had taken out some buildings, and am relieved to learn that they were demo'd as hazards. Hastily constructed and worn out, I imagine. Yes, when U think back on the endurance, energy and tenacity of the pioneering settlers, it humbles U. Not sure that I would have survived. Thanks for watching and writing. Take care and Keep well. Cordially, Don Wilson
