    THOUGHT PROCESS:
Normally I don’t really like opening up on a fade-in from a lowpass filter, since it’s an easy trick to overuse, but I felt like it fit the song + I had just discovered automation tracks in LMMS, can you really blame me for wanting to flavorblast a song with them?
Now I know jack-shit about disco, so I just put it in my own style. Fortunately, this song has no electric guitars (which actually ADDS to the aesthetic!!! Electric guitars are not always necessary to create the violent energy of a battle theme!), so recreating and matching its vibe was not hard at all.
Various sound effects from Mad Rat Dead made it in to add rhythmic flavor to the song, and the transition with the airhorn was a nod to Groovy Long Legs’ theme from Pikmin 4.
And now for the secret melodies… There’s a lot in this one, as you can tell.
“Green Greens” was chosen because it represents Kirby, who is called the “Pink Demon” in Japanese and occasionally in some English flavor text. Groovy Long Legs’ theme was chosen because HOLYSHIT THEY PUT. THEY PUT WHOLE PUNS IN PICKED MAN THE FOURTH. “Welcome to the New World!” is there because it’s also a Kirby song, so it goes along with Green Greens. “The Royal Theme” is the Royal Theme, and “MEGALOVANIA” just fits well. “The Missile Maestro” was put in because I ship my primary Pencils and Punch. The overworld themes from the original Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario USA/Doki Doki Panic made it in because they are Mario songs, same for the underground theme from Super Mario Bros.. Gooper Blooper’s Sticker Star battle theme made it in because it is a rhythm fight, which I feel Hole Punch should be counted as an honorary member of “has a rhythm fight in a Paper Mario game” even though their battle isn’t a rhythm fight. “MAD HEART” is in there because Heart is the third boss of Mad Rat Dead, and Tubba Blubba’s heart is the third boss of the original Paper Mario, and Hole Punch is the third boss of Oriking. “The Shifty Sticker” is in there because both Hole Punch and Tape used “orecchi” as their first-person pronoun in Japanese. “Chomp Attack” and Tower Power’s battle theme are both in there because they’re the themes of the bosses of desert worlds in their respective Paper Marios (Iggy’s battle theme did not make it in because I couldn’t figure it out. However, my excuse is that the yellow areas in Color Splash are not ALL deserts, only one of them is.) “Vs. Susie” just fit. “Cyber Battle (Solo)” was chosen because I think Hole Punch and Sweet Cap’n Cakes would get along well, maybe. “Thunder Tornado” is in there because “Rude Buster” from Deltarune did not fit well at all. If I had to make an excuse I’d say that it’s because there is a boss enemy in the Classic series called the “Yellow Devil”, which is 100% what Punch is. (“BUT THE YELLOW DEVIL ISN’T IN 9!!!” No, it’s not. If you don’t like the excuse, you can make your own remix of the song that makes more sense. Just download LMMS and go crazy. I’m dead serious.)
