What kind of special considerations (if any) does one need to take with an iron gall ink like Platinum Citrus Black? Any pens you wouldn't put it in?

I love the retro 51’s. I have several of them. My favorite is, coming from New York City, is the NYC Skyline limited edition.
When evaluating any particular pen for performance the pen, the paper and the ink should all be considered- what are the best inks to use when evaluating a pens performance (ink flow, smoothness, etc)?

Yes, you can unscrew the nib unit from the front grip section on all Nahvalur fountain pens / Peter Pens.

I purchased the Pan Am Retro 51 for a neighbor who's a pilot for United (He loves it). As a Leonardo collector (and user), the primary manipulation is a masterpiece, but the Foresta Umbra fits neatly with my preference for green pens. All my Leonardo's write smooth as butter out of the box and stay wet until ready to write. The Ikkaku spoiled me on flex nibs. The Regalia flex nib provided on this pen blows all other flex nibs out of the water, while the silver shimmer on the pen is gorgeous.
Can ink make a difference in your pen and writing experience? (brand, properties, acidity/base, chemical structure, particulates, ease of use, and cleaning)? I didn't particularly like one pen, but it became a lovely writer when I changed the ink.
As you experienced, ink choice does matter for sure. Sometimes, a certain ink just doesn't play well with the pen.
What permanent blue inks would you recommend? I need to sign a lot of documents at work with permanent ink and I'm so sick of the papermate ballpoints that my office buys 😞
What modern flex nibs do you like? I'm starting out with a Gravitas titanium flex and wonder how it compares.

Hullo, Tom! My sons and I enjoyed your Autumn Inks selection. That Rikyu-Cha is a great Autumn ink; I added some shimmer to my bottle of it, recently, and the combo is swell. My son, Sammy, has now placed the Ikkaku flex pen on his Wish List; he says it's super cool! His brother, Caleb, is wondering: Do you have a personal "Favourite Winter Inks" list?

What makes an ink wetter vs drier?
The Retro 51 Cleopatra and the Pan models are wonderful.
Does Retro 51 still make pens in different widths? There used to be the Standard, Classic (a bit wider) and Big Shot (the widest)?
Can the nib and feed affect the dryness of ink? I have two pens that had the ink dry if left out for a couple of minutes. Other pens with these inks have not dried.
Retro only makes the Standard Tornado and the Big Shot. They used to have the smaller Agenda size, but no more.
Some nib and feeds can write a bit wetter. Check the slit between the tines. If there's no cap and the tines are pressing on each other, the pen might have a drier flow.

The oversized Pelikan pen is actually a lamp display piece for a retail store. Since we do not have a showroom, I use it for our RUclips videos.
shimmer, sheen or shade?
I typically purchase a medium nib on all my fountain pens, however, I am intrigued by custom nibs. Can you explain what architecture, cursive, italic, music, etc. nibs are and how they vary from fine, medium, stub, etc. nibs? Thank you!

My Peter Plume pen arrived yesterday. Love it! Is there a way to get other nibs to use in it? I got a stub which I will be getting used to. It's wider than most of my pens, but SO smooth!

I've never been to a pen show. Which pen show do you recommend as a good start? Why?
I would see if there is a show within 1-2 hours travel distance of where you live. Start local. Then, if you want to see more, go to a bigger show like the DC Pen Show or the San Francisco pen show.

@@GoldspotPens Hey Tom no more crossing guard,I retired on Nov 30th with 19 years of service bad knees and back problems,had my left knee replaced and back surgery this past June now my right knee is shot,as far as the fine nib something leaning toward the medium side.
