Women's safety protocols are not a part of our election campaigns bcuz d society is too divided between inter caste n inter religious rivalries. Children from primary school level should be taught to respect women/girl as a subject, as moral science is taught in schools. This is the effect of patriarchal dominance.
The interview touched many good points but disappointing as well because few pertinent questions were not asked. I will mention them as below. 1. Mam places the onus on hospitals and workplaces for ensuring safety and rightly so. But what about our laws. Why the law views and treats the rape from patriarchal mindset. 2. WHY THERE WAS A 2 FINGER TEST BEFORE Nirbhaya? WHY THE VIRGINITY OF WOMEN IS IMPORTANT FOR RAPE AND PHYSICAL TORTURE. 3. WHY the SEVERITY OF AN UNMARRIED GIRL’s RAPE IS MORE THAN THE RAPE OF A MARRIED WOMAN? does a married girl wanna get raped or her trauma and emotional scarring would be less than that of an unmarried girl. 3. Why sometimes a lower court asks the rapist to marry the victim.. what kind of justice is that? 4. Why THE CONVICTION RATE OF RAPES ARE ONLY 27-28%. WHY IT TAKES 5-8 years to get a verdict??? 5. Why ‘Rape by the promise of marriage’ still exist? The law and judiciary and those old people are still stuck in 90’s mindset. RAPE IS NOT SEX. RAPE IS A SEXUAL PHYSICAL TORTURE INFLICTED UPON A GIRL/could be a boy( a minor male child can get sodomized.. can’t he.. is the law in place to protect a boy??) Rape has nothing to do with virginity, dress, behaviour of a girl ( think about baby girls or doctor in this case). And RAPE HAS NOTHING TO WITH A MARRIAGE OR PROMISE OF A MARRIAGE (shitty old laws). The low conviction rate, the huge amount of time taken ( it should not take more than 2 years) for the final verdict, the lacklustre responses from police, no proper forensic and DNA analysis and shitty patriarchal laws ensure rape and sexual violence keeps happening in our country. Oh and castration( medically removing the balls…oh I do know the meaning) for violent rape cases must be considered. The loss of manlihood would bother those men more than the jail time.
She has hit the nail on the head on multiple levels. We can only work on prevention where too many things need to change but we begin with teaching our boys at home. Enough of dos n donts for our girls. Teach sons whats NOT ok.
This was a fantastic interview..Vrinda Maam has some made some very wise points. Political sloganeering, shoddy investigations, political cover ups. Such a disgusting state of affairs. How can the largest democracy of the world have such a pathetic political structure and power imbalance.
Ok , i understand that death penalty is not the complete solution but to say that it's not deterrent is so wrong. Liberal must correct their stance on it. It's a principal based flaw and arguments are always emotional rather realistic and practical. I repeat it's not the complete solution but definately a part of the solution.
Vrinda stated the problem. It is the political class (read upper caste) who has the power to enforce the laws already on the books who has done nothing about this. How many upper caste women choose to protect their sons for their acts of violence? How many upper caste parents are teaching their sons how to behave in public and in private? The lower castes and weaker minorities do not have the power to protect themselves when the laws will do nothing. The laws have been designed to protect upper caste men.

@@jec_ecart that is irrelevant because men are a threat to women. Well technically who ever is stronger is going to be a threat to the weaker one. So gender neutral laws can't exist u till we get to point that women are safe from men. 2ndly even if you make laws, enforcement is a whole other ball game. When misogyny is so deep rooted in our families and institution and even the police, laws just become words on a paper.

How you expect justice at the hands of same perpetrators ? sickening

Finally. someone who points out the important parts of how an investigation should be conducted.

Bring back Public execution There needs to be a fear of law
Stop sloganeering and talk about gender neutral laws.

@@neelumahendra4695 equal law and safety for men & women.
