If you want to have really detailed builds in modded Minecraft, I recommend Chisels&Bits, Decocraft, Bibliocraft, and Flat Colored Blocks. Tons of colors and you can create your own blocks and objects to fit whatever build you want. My friend and I also have some other mods (MrCrayfish's Vehicle, Device, and Furniture Mods as well as More Player Models, Extra Utilities, and more) that we use with those for a modern style city that we're working on here and there.

Some stuff lets you copy and paste, fill in spots, etc. We have a lot of building mods that add a lot more detail such as decocraft, more furniture, chisels and bits. Basically a bunch of mods that are involved with more decorative abilities. Also if you actually want chairs in minecraft, there's a plugin where you can right click on the stairs to sit in them! I think using modpacks and plugins like these will make the challenges seem really interesting.
