Just saw this now. And I see most commentators did not read the question correctly. It is not (7 times n) plus 1. The question reads 7 times (the sum of n plus 1)
The verbal would change if a comma " or , "after number! 7 times the sum of a number, plus 1 is 15.........yes answer 2 7(n+n) + 1= 15 or 7(n)+1=15 Versus 7(n+1)=15 or answer 8/7
It is not redundant, because if you say “7 times a number plus one” it could easily be confused to be 7n+1, but if you say “7 times THE SUM OF A number plus one” then you would know it is 7(n+1) instead of 7n+1
@@firingsquadgeneral But then it still should have been 7 times the the sum of the number AND one. The use of sum and plus is what makes it redundant. The use of the word sum indicates that the operation is "plus". The same as you say the product of 6 and 4. and not the product of 6 times 4.
7xn+1=15 how do you know to put () To me if someone wanted a student to get the answer you would write 7xn + 7x1 =15 this is why I hate math and so do most student. It’s like math teacher think we should think like them.

It is not
(7 times n) plus 1.
The question reads
7 times (the sum of n plus 1)
Ajab khan khattak. This is a very easy question. The answer is 2

The verbal would change if a comma " or , "after number!
7 times the sum of a number, plus 1 is 15.........yes answer 2
7(n+n) + 1= 15 or 7(n)+1=15
Versus 7(n+1)=15 or answer 8/7
I interpreted this as 7(n+n)+1=15. So, for me n=1.
Interesting
(15 - 1) / 7
14 / 7

Since the word “sum” MEANS “plus”, to write “the sum of a number plus 1” is REDUNDANT.

7(x+1)=15 x+1=15/7 x=8/7
Dang! I got it correct, and I am not a math person.
8/7
Can't you just do (15-1)/7
Ohh nvm I see
Not l
You could do (15/7) - 1 which now that I see it written is the same as 15/7 - 7/7 which is 8/7.
Roughly 1.14
The number is 2

2 easy
The answer is 1.143. for most practical purposes.
No argument against the 8/7 answer. Correct.
The answer is 8/7 or 1 1/7.
