It really wasn't much of a set up. As the kid basically keeps saying his manager was the one to set it up and his manager did this and that. Then when actually tries to use his knowledge, he made crap up. He even literally said and admitted to them that he made the stroies of the research form the university studies up. He admitted it to get their reactions.
He wasn't there to defend anything or to even say his peace or to inform. He was just there to criticize and create drama. And the host knew that. That is why he was asking the kid the questions he did, to get him to use his "Educated Knowledge" to insult or rial up the others. The host knew what he was doing for sure.
Also if you actually look I not what all he was saying like you know actually fact check what came out of his mouth, regarding the so called studies that he was talking about that he would have had to of done long before coming on when he says that he had no idea what the girls even did, then how could he possibly know about those studies if he didn't know about OF.
Duh because he made it up on the spot to get them all flustered and throw them off and try to make the feel bad.
Don't get me wrong he points out a lot of good questions and ideas, but no he was not under attack and no he was not defending himself at all. He is a debater and uses what information is given to him right at that moment to make an argument about something. And the others saw that and were trying to call him on it but were worried he was actually right.
The kid has game and can turn the tides for sure in a debate, and has an awesome poker face when proven wrong. But you don't have to be very well educated to do that. You just need to know a few basic things and know how to take a lot, which he did saw he talks a lot. I have 8 friends that are proof of that. Can't do simple multiplication or most any math higher than addition and subtraction, can't even read a face clock or know the difference between mammals and serpents, but get them in a discussion and they will make it seem like they are on pare with Hawkins.
The reason I mentioned math is because as you heard and saw the kid obviously doesn't know the Pythagorean theorem at all. When he takes about the fractions and number, that was a dead give away.
But no he wasn't defending himself at all, he was just doing what he does, stir the pot and get some drama. That is what he is good at and he make sit seem so easy, the kid really knows how to do that. He just needs to be careful with his words as he gets older because they could get more real for him as he becomes an adult, but he has lots of time to figure it out better and really master this great craft that he is clearly gifted with.
