I'm thinking about going Ryzen soonish (seriously now, as in: next 12 months… funds are *very* tight is why) And I plan on doing direct comparisons between the current box (FX-8350 (shutit), 32 GB, R9 380) and the next (Ryzen 5 or 7, prob. at least 64 GB (reasons), and the same R9 380 :D) I have a very sick (bad sick and cool sick :D) map with 3-60 trains (crazy and amazing). You can imagine the UPS? 10ish, still, but… molasses. And some other UPS-handicapped maps. I'm really curious how many (if any) of those will get to 60 UPS again. If any :D (Not much hope for that 3-60 map :D)

@@acelabsinc they have the same HP as walls, the only difference - visuals aside - is that they lower for you when you get close enough (you can also link them up to circuit network and controll them via logicgates) in short, aside of a tad higher resource costs - which at that point in game are more or less neglectible - there is no real reason to not build gates.
and tanks can even be powered with wood, eg just after his first tank with all the coal was destroyed and he was standing next to trees to complain that he now had to walk :-) but who didn't experience this himself already many times, being so fixated to using good quality fuel or doing something else in a specific way only, that all the basics (in this case, that ANY fuel can be used) are forgotten. in german there is even a word for this: _Betriebsblindheit_ ("business/job blindness"), meaning that you are blind for other solutions or problems when you are used too much how some business always does something.
The reason for the regular cannon shell is for green enemies that chase you pretty fast like if you don’t have rocket fuel in your gas tank they will out run you and hurt you the explosion caused by explosive shells will dmg your tank if the enemy is at point blank range. That said I still use only explosive cannon shells because KABOOM
KIBZ! Recolor your character to that spicy spicy red (your channel color). You need to open crafting menu and go to character, then you choose color and it's done. After that all your turret towers will be red, and if you get into the car (also t a n k) it will be red too!
My kids wander around saying it. And these factorio episodes really mess them up. Haha And while the little guy is playing satisfactory with me he keeps saying things like"look dad! I just made 5 SUPA COMPUTAS!"
I stumbled across your part 1 to this series and immediately re installed Factorio. I've never played the game this much I was always to overwhelmed by everything.
Its certainly a great game to play! It's worth checking out some of the how to videos If you want to find more help with building a base and if its biters,you can mess around with the settings to make it better for you. Always remember, there is no such thing as too much in this game xD
I got the game before 1.0 was released and just got immersed in it for a few days (I would sit down in the morning on my days off and before I knew it it was mid afternoon). My first play through, my friend set up a server and we went through to the end game in about 40ish hours learning a lot along the way. A good thing to remember is plan for the future expansions. Also the limiting resources we always ran into were iron plates and green circuits because they are the basis for so many other things.
Cliffs are the spawn of Satan and nobody can tell me otherwise. Especially on servers where the car steering is horribly delayed for some reason even though the rest of the server is not lagging.
If you enjoyed the tank, just wait until you get the spidertron later on - its a remote controlled war mech that fires rockets and has its own item grid. You can also pilot it if you want. Oh, and the artillery. Nothing completely ruins a biters day then artillery opening up from a third of the map away and just wiping out nests in four or five rounds. And your cliff issues is why most people recommend just turning them off in map generation. So much hassle having to work around them for absolutely no gain.
Cliffs sometimes have their upsides. They create choke points, and basically act as stretches of undamageable wall that you don't have to defend. But how well that works depends on map setup and the luck of the generation seed being used.
Piercing tank shells are designed to handle single targets quickly and pass through them, so let's say you're being chased by a Behemoth, this will get the job down and completely erases the Behemoth. Explosive shells are only for clusters so its best to use the piercing shells when you think the situation is "too personal"
in vanilla there is even a steam achievement for it (only local achievement when playing modded), and also for burning down lots of trees. but remember that that causes additional pollution ...
You can make combat robots that have limited lifespan, but they should be able to fly after your tank and shoot the enemies. Also better fuel gives you faster acceleration and top speed, but doesn't always give more energy.
One of, if not the most appealing thing in factorio are the mods. You can adjust so many settings, it is insane. For example you like to hunt aliens very much. You can improve the aliens themselves, making them more dangerous, and getting yourself some improved equipment. Say you don't like hunting them, get yourself some nuclear artillery and clear them from far away. Or say you don't want them at all, you can patch them out. There is a reason this gameplay loop is so catching and... addicting.
Not sure if anyone pointed this out but your train parking will never get used. Your train line bypasses the parking lot. To fix you need to remove the straight bit between your bypass and the exit of your parking lot. You can actually remove the entire bypass as you have it if you remove it and the bit of track from your parking lot entry and exit as the line passing the entry of your stations will act as you want. The chain singles look ahead for a rail signal. The rail signal is both the star and end of a rail block.
@imKibitz hey man, when you are in the tank inventory, to refuel, you can hold CTRL + Click on the coal and it will fill up all the fuel, instead of dragging each over.
If you don't know how much stuff you need, here are my default ratios for the main bus: 4 full iron plates belts 4 full copper plates belts 4 full green circuit belts (if you can) 2 full red circuit belts (if you can) 2 full steel 2 full plastic 60 of all science per seconds(not belts) And everything else just kinda regulates itself Don't forget to upgrade your belts
Kibz you can squash the spawners with your tank! You just need to run over it. And you should use rocket fuel for your tank and trains as soon as you can it will help you a lot!
Now that you've invested in all that real estate, keep in mind that real estate is for solar. And with enough solar, there can be lasers. And outline the border with long range power for grid redundancy, so if any "Oopsies!" happen you're not laying out a welcome mat for the nearest biter nest.

If you think the tank combat is fun and powerful now, just wait until you've got power armour and personal defense lasers. I'm around that level in my game right now and, as long as I play it reasonably smart, the only things that can kill me are when my tank gets stuck on a rock or a cliff and I'm subsequently surrounded, forced to stand in overlapping puddles of worm acid, being nommed by the biters, and slimed by the spitters. Those puddles of acid on the ground are a killer, even for a super-tough tank. Your health drops down in seconds. It looks like you've got both yellow ammo and red ammo on the belt. Make it so that there's only red ammo on the belt. It's much better. The inserters will only load up to 5 or so magazines of ammo into a turret, and they will never mix ammo types. So if a turret somehow gets the weaker yellow ammo inside it, it'll only upgrade to red ammo if it runs out of yellow ammo and can't get more. The turrets don't seem to shoot a whole lot, so you can probably afford to have all of your yellow ammo production feed into your red ammo facilities.
I stacked laser defenses so hard that I could just walk through nests and everything would just die around me. It was nuts. I need to build another mega base :')
I have to admit as much as I loved and learned a lot from your Satisfactory videos... I like watching you play Factorio better... seems to be a more interesting and fun challenge for you. Unfortunately Satisfactory has that "Got that tech I'm good" style. Factorio pushes you to expand and upgrade constantly.... and you have a time limit (when you run out of resources).... and this game brings out that maniacal laughter that makes me laugh lol
So my plan is to get to Tesla coils and then drag out electric poles and a few coils when I’m close to a base and then drop new poles and coils as the coils clear it out. Never run out of ammo
Kibz, cliffs are basically indestructible walls. So why do you keep dozing through them, just to put up normal, completely destructible walls?! Use the cliffs, Kibz!
Just going to say one thing, Artillery? Reach out and touch a friend with, Artillery! You can make short stuff of those bases with Artillery and even add to trains!!!
you could set up a couple turret point defenses to run your tank back to to clear out the biters chasing you while you focus on the nests. It's how I've always approached base clearing

more advanced fuel types give your vehicles an acceleration and maximum speed increase. 1 rocket fuel = 25 coal and increases vehicle acceleration by 80%, maximum speed by 15% i always found that plowing straight through part of a biter nest, destroying as many worms and nests as possible, then extracting and killing of the following bugs and repairing was the most fun approach to clearing nests. also you may want to get gates, they have the same stats as wall, but you can drive right through. which can save some time
Kibitz there's different Damage types int his game, for example Piercing and explosive, your armour provides resistance to different types of damage as well, so there are some RPG elements in the combat to be aware of. for example, explosive shells are great for taking our large groups of biters, but piercing is amazing for taking out hives or shredding right through a long line of enemies. also, get solid fuel for your tank, solid fuel makes it go faster. and Nuclear Fuel cells even faster.
A good way to improve defense is by redundancy. If you make a second layer of logistics (ammo and power) far back from the line of defense and make it so often branch to feed the line it makes sure that you don't loose so much when part of the line is damaged (as you did with your car lol)
Nice! Now you've got this set up, for offence, look to getting a portable nuclear and personal lasers for power armour. This will help you simply walk into biter bases and ignore alot of the attacks. Also on tour rail network, I think the bypass you've included at your stations needs work. You want to ensure you have the space of a train between signals, otherwise their is potential it could cause a blockage.
one of the nice features they added in the 1.0 release was in the inventory, there is now a character tab, there you can change your guys colors, as well as vehicles if your in them
Ah I just started upgrading my base to my level 2 setup. Moving from spaghetti mode into trained mega bus. As for the cannon shells, normal for bases, explosive for crowds. That's what works best for me. XD XD I know how you feel about crashing into things while fighting hordes with the tank XD XD That was funny to watch, but I absolutely know your pain. Protip - personal roboport and deconstruction planner set to cliffs.

these episodes made me start a new game just to have fun killing monsters but what i made was a big mistake cause my biters and biter bases r like 3-7x bigger than urs and im so scared. good thing i got mods so i dont have to fight them for now so i can get ready. cant wait 4 da next episode!
Wanna make the wall even better? If you alternate stagger single wall piece, you make a concrete forest. That will make the bugs use more time navigating towards your main wall and guns

I always turn off cliffs, hate them (everything about them). I'm old-school (though first version I played was only 0.12.x). And one really has to watch out for those rocks… they don't damage the tank anymore (they once did… those were the times :D) but they stop you dead (if you're not full speed, and those spitters slow you down (also a "newer" change) so you won't be). So: no biter nests at night, and even during the day… if the nest overlaps a forest, the trees can hide those rocks so damn well. EDIT: One word: Personal Laser Defense.
I've never messed with the explosive shells, but I can tell you from experience that a standard cannon shell will one shot a small worm and the spawners.
You know you can avoid most of the spits easy with some weaving when moving around to throw off their prediction. Going to be interesting seeing later on. In a death world play I have the attacks are so big they are using 1+GW in laser turret power to keep my base safe.
they always spit to the position where you would be at constant speed in a straight line. if you walk/drive accordingly it is easy to not get hit once. but pay attention to spit on the ground which is damaging and can slow you down. btw: automatic regeneration of your health starts if you don't fight for some time (10? seconds), and personal lasers are not counted as you fighting :-)
You need a personal laser as well for your armor, it will shoot by itself at the enemies. Even when your in the tank. And make some throwable combat drones at the same time. You'll make quick work of those bases.
i mostly play with expansion off (or a train world), and rarely drive any vehicles (my vehicles always find every rock and cliff, and even a single tree in the desert), but go for the best power armor as fast as possible and kill the biggest biter nests with my 10+ personal lasers :-)
The solid fuel gives you more speed in the tank, trains, etc. And also more acceleration. The rocket fuel is better still, and nuclear fuel better again.
You are giving me eye spasms with how you place your turrets down. FACE THEM TO THE BUGS! It also slows them down because they need to rotate first. Please!

You can fuel your tank/train/car with rocket fuel, it gives a great speed boost (and later nuclear rocket fuel :D)

I think the regular shells also pierce enemies, they are better vs the huge biters if I remember correctly due to the higher single target damage.

It was about 200 hour in, and my third base when I actually launched my first rocket xD Iearny slot along the way and even more after.

You need to tech into uranium and automate production of nukes.

Hey Kibs, did you know that gates are a research option? Should help you with having to dismantle your wall or leave gaps in it to go in and out.

you could set up a couple turret point defenses to run your tank back to to clear out the biters chasing you while you focus on the nests. It's how I've always approached base clearing

more advanced fuel types give your vehicles an acceleration and maximum speed increase.
1 rocket fuel = 25 coal and increases vehicle acceleration by 80%, maximum speed by 15%
i always found that plowing straight through part of a biter nest, destroying as many worms and nests as possible, then extracting and killing of the following bugs and repairing was the most fun approach to clearing nests.
also you may want to get gates, they have the same stats as wall, but you can drive right through. which can save some time
Kibitz there's different Damage types int his game, for example Piercing and explosive, your armour provides resistance to different types of damage as well, so there are some RPG elements in the combat to be aware of. for example, explosive shells are great for taking our large groups of biters, but piercing is amazing for taking out hives or shredding right through a long line of enemies. also, get solid fuel for your tank, solid fuel makes it go faster. and Nuclear Fuel cells even faster.
A good way to improve defense is by redundancy. If you make a second layer of logistics (ammo and power) far back from the line of defense and make it so often branch to feed the line it makes sure that you don't loose so much when part of the line is damaged (as you did with your car lol)
Evolution factor .64... (You can see it in hovering over the spawners.) At least the big boys don't spawn till .9...

Make lots of rockets and lots of grenades. It makes hive clearing a lot easier. Grenades for adds and rockets for hives and worm mortars.

Nice! Now you've got this set up, for offence, look to getting a portable nuclear and personal lasers for power armour. This will help you simply walk into biter bases and ignore alot of the attacks.
Also on tour rail network, I think the bypass you've included at your stations needs work. You want to ensure you have the space of a train between signals, otherwise their is potential it could cause a blockage.
Incorporate cliffs into your defensive perimeter, the biters can't destroy them so they're stretches you don't need to defend with turrets.
one of the nice features they added in the 1.0 release was in the inventory, there is now a character tab, there you can change your guys colors, as well as vehicles if your in them
even before 1.0 you could change color by using the console command /color, eg "/color cyan" or giving rgb values
Ah I just started upgrading my base to my level 2 setup. Moving from spaghetti mode into trained mega bus.
As for the cannon shells, normal for bases, explosive for crowds. That's what works best for me.

these episodes made me start a new game just to have fun killing monsters but what i made was a big mistake cause my biters and biter bases r like 3-7x bigger than urs and im so scared. good thing i got mods so i dont have to fight them for now so i can get ready. cant wait 4 da next episode!
Wanna make the wall even better? If you alternate stagger single wall piece, you make a concrete forest. That will make the bugs use more time navigating towards your main wall and guns

Tanks are meh, what you really want is the artillery wagon.
You can also ram trees with the tank very easily. You don't slow down unlike the car.

I always turn off cliffs, hate them (everything about them). I'm old-school (though first version I played was only 0.12.x).
And one really has to watch out for those rocks… they don't damage the tank anymore (they once did… those were the times :D) but they stop you dead (if you're not full speed, and those spitters slow you down (also a "newer" change) so you won't be). So: no biter nests at night, and even during the day… if the nest overlaps a forest, the trees can hide those rocks so damn well.
EDIT: One word: Personal Laser Defense.
I've never messed with the explosive shells, but I can tell you from experience that a standard cannon shell will one shot a small worm and the spawners.

You know you can avoid most of the spits easy with some weaving when moving around to throw off their prediction.
Going to be interesting seeing later on. In a death world play I have the attacks are so big they are using 1+GW in laser turret power to keep my base safe.
they always spit to the position where you would be at constant speed in a straight line. if you walk/drive accordingly it is easy to not get hit once. but pay attention to spit on the ground which is damaging and can slow you down.
btw: automatic regeneration of your health starts if you don't fight for some time (10? seconds), and personal lasers are not counted as you fighting :-)

You need a personal laser as well for your armor, it will shoot by itself at the enemies. Even when your in the tank. And make some throwable combat drones at the same time. You'll make quick work of those bases.
i mostly play with expansion off (or a train world), and rarely drive any vehicles (my vehicles always find every rock and cliff, and even a single tree in the desert), but go for the best power armor as fast as possible and kill the biggest biter nests with my 10+ personal lasers :-)

The solid fuel gives you more speed in the tank, trains, etc. And also more acceleration. The rocket fuel is better still, and nuclear fuel better again.
You should start using the red ammo for your turret defense system.
U should put Robot ports near the defence so the robots can automatically repair or replace
You are giving me eye spasms with how you place your turrets down. FACE THEM TO THE BUGS! It also slows them down because they need to rotate first. Please!
