I just stumbled across this review and it is awesome. I love the fact that you do not waste a lot of time with filler or a needlessly long introduction. This was a breath of fresh air.
This is the first thing I did with my XM4! Those foam ear tips gave me a middle ear infection in less than two weeks of use because of how much they block your ear. It's made like this of course to give you a better ANC experience, but they forgot that it could give you a middle ear infection which is very painful. I got some cheap ear tips from Amazon that works perfectly with my XM4; sound quality is great and ANC is great too. After more than one year of use they are still very good and the battery is still perfect. I'm not upgrading anytime soon.
@@CampusManiaIf that happens then that means you weren’t cleaning you’re ears of wax. Plus a lot of people and I mean a lot do not twist them into the ear they Jam it in so pro tip hopefully it helps.
Thank you so much for doing the smile and yawn test, everyone and their dog do the headshake, but nobody does the smile and yawn. Is there any chance of doing an eating test next time as well? Because I don't know if its just me, but earphones always work there way out of my ears, when chewing 😅
I usually stay away from all earbuds due to irritation of use after about an hour or more. I have great experience with my Sony WF-1000XM4 over the ear headphone and they are comfort and the sound is superb so going to this new set of earbuds mean that I'm gonna continue getting the best sound and comfort. They're so light, it doesn't even feel like I have them on and it stays on without it falling off when you're moving around a lot. 2 thumbs up for this beast earbud. Got mine on sale for $269.00 after tax yesterday from Best Buy. Brought it home, charge it for about an hour, connect it to my Note 20 Ultra completed all the step setting up and fine tuning setting. At first, I thought it look bulky, but when I put them baby on. It didn't look that bulky in my ear and the fit is just perfect. After 10 hours of listening to my music. I was super happy how comfortable it was in my ears. There was no irritation or discomfort whatsoever. I move around a lot lot and these baby just stays on because they're so light. Another great investment in my opinion.
great review, but sadly one part you talked about made me not get them, battery life with all features on is kinda low, especially for long flights. Thank you.
Viewing your comparison about the call quality I think all the wireless headphones are reaching their limits about the sound quality from the microphone. Since during a call the bandwitch of the bluetooth should share between our voice and the sound from the calling we need soon a new protocol or something similar to increase the bitrate overall.
There is a new BT protocol that's being developed that will double bandwidth. Additionally they are looking at expanding BT frequencies to 6GHz which will allow faster data rates. All of this combined will theoretically allow lossless audio 24-bit/96khz WITHOUT the need of a codec so all BT enabled devices will have this capability.
@@PodiumTuningRacing I wish that in the near future we can talk with others without speaking with a low bitrate like if we are using an "old telephone".
I tried the buds pro and I didn't care for the sound at all. I do have a pair of the Sony over the ear headphones and I love them. I may need to try these next. As always, great review!
I have a refurbished buds 2 pro from Amazon for $105. And I'm not impressed. They skip every other time I try and play something on them. I'll be returning them later this week
@@corey7219 the pair I had didn’t skip, but the fit wasn’t too comfortable and the sound just didn’t do it for me. Maybe I was expecting too much bass.
@darkreigncometh did you give them some break in time? the bass improves immensly after a few day's use. It was very lack luster at first i agree. AKG tunes these very well....they are some of the best out there.
Thank you for addressing the ambient mode! I feel like it's a really underrated feature, and on the Airpods they're miles ahead of any other earbud, sounds completely natural. Was really hoping these would make up some ground, but it sounds like that's not the case.
I think airpods had a massive lead years ago but others have caught up. The ambient sound on my buds 2 pro are on par, if not better than my airpod pro.
CNET says the upgrade on the XM5 isn't substantial to warrant an upgrade but it still does have slightly improved ANC, call quality, and audio quality.
You're looking fantastic. Definitely going to wait for a sale for these. I have the xm4s and im happy with them since i dont have the battery issue that plagues the first wave of that release.
I've had so many earbuds over the years. I just picked these up and I was blown away by the noise cancelling. I thought the Pro 2s were good but it's nothing compared to the Xm5s.
@Thao Hi thao, I enjoy listening to podcasts to go to sleep, have you tested the Xm5s while laying down on your side ny any chance? And would it fall out?😅
TOUCH VOLUME controls should have been implemented by turning the cylinder parts of the earbuds (that sticks out) like a touch sensitive knob. It would be perfect use of the bulk!
Amazing and down to earth as always, Thao! P.S. Your skin and face gains are really inspiring, thanks for motivating me to continue my self improvement!
if its about audio, i just go with Sony and nothing else, been that way only since the past 20 years for me. be it earbuds or speakers for my TV, i always prefer sony above everything else, often it is pricey but worth it everytime for me.
So agree! $300 on buds that 50% of it becomes e-waste after a firmware update tanks the battery is nothing compared to the feeling I get when looking down on Jabra peasants and listening to the twinkling highs and mudpie lows that Sony provides! #SonyFapFap
Every time I hear about great sounding earbuds, of course, my iPhone can never take full advantage of it. LDAC option should be on every premium device. I swear the iPhone is the most outdated device I’ve ever used but I love my 13 Pro Max lol
Whichever you choose, make sure to clean them often, especially if you work out in them. I didn't and got an ear infection. I'm better now but lost hearing in my right ear for a week.
I agree Sony's stock tips is a hit or miss for some people, hence why the anc would be poor. I got the azla tws 6 tips and the anc was perfect. Sealed really well and was able to wear it for 8 hours a day without feeling discomfort.
Okay you say they sound that good... Have you actually tired audiophile headphones? Cuz I still have the Sony xm3 and i am seriously disappointed with their sound... Even though, at the time they where supposed to be the best... Currently I'm using the beyerdinamic dt700pro on my phone but they are always a hassle to keep around since they aren't made for mobile use... What do you say? How would you compare their sound to non Bluetooth headphones?
I found that my uds 2 pro needed break in for both sound and microphone/ call clarity. both improved immensly after a few days use. MY girlfriend mention how crisp and clear i sound, when she was complaining a bit at first about background noise and not sounding as clear compared to my buds pro. THe bass of the buds alos came alive after a few hours use. Just a heads up in case you aren't thuroughly impressed with buds 2 pro out of the box.
Does the multi connect work properly? I have the Sony headphones XM4 and it never works properly, even though my laptop lid is closed, nothing is playing, and I play media on my phone it often will still show connected to the laptop and then I have to open up the app to disconnect the laptop, it's hella annoying and others have had this issue
Great job with this review, not sure where they will land for me, when you add the Bose QC buds to the mix. The ANC on those beats out the AP2 in my opinion mics are good but not as good and I do find myself getting some ear fatigue. Glad to see sony has improved on these areas so I may give them a try,
Damn, the ambient mode and and the volume control gestures are actually what I like the most about the airpod pros 2. which makes me even use them with android. too bad the Sonys dissappoint in those two categories
Pixel Buds then AirPods Pro 2nd gen for the mic. I can't believe they released these with a mic like that, otherwise I'd be tempted. Hopefully it's something they can tweak with software.
I'm always looking for the perfect earbuds. I have daith and tragus piercings in both ears, and so far, the Buds2 pro have fit the best but still hurt after a while. And almost always one pops out if i yawn or eat....may just have to give these a go. ❤
I tried the Sony WF-1000XM5 but was disappointed when comparing to my old Jabra 85T. The Sony WF-1000XM5 haven't got a lot of bass, they're less comfortable in the ear with their foam/rubber tips (even having tried all of their size options) and have poorer ANC. I ended up giving the Sonys away and buying the latest Jabra Elite 10 earphones, which are about 25% cheaper but sound and feel significantly better.
The question is: basically the right earbud is still the mother bud ("R" is red on the app)? Mono mode on the left earbud with Google Assistant activated is not possible for the XM5s then like their Linkbuds S? That's when the battery drain will be inconsistent too if some of us use one bud at a time, and in this case, the right earbud is the only usable one for mono mode.
@@user-ot7bl7fi4j the Bluetooth pairing is better between Samsung buds and a Samsung phone. Same goes for AirPods and an iPhone. That’s the real advantage.

The cool thing is that you can change the ear tips with more comfortable 3rd party ear tips if you want.
