It's prolonged but eventually ends. You don't get eternal life outside of Jesus. Eternal hell means they still have eternal life. Note the contrast "eternal life" vs "everlasting [prolonged] destruction." Death and Hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the Second Death [that is, eventual annihilation].
@harryfrance sadly, no. The Scripture overwhelmingly points to an eternal, everlasting (same meaning) punishment. Souls live on forever, it's just a matter of where.

@@harryfranceIt would be longer study than this video clip! It's almost a "which is more likely" topic, but I believe there is enough evidence for annihilation: In Jude 1:7 the punishment of Sodom & Gomorrah was "eternal fire". The same "eternal fire" is for the impenitent on judgement day (Matt 25:41). So, this eternal fire has a time limit, given Sodom's story. The unbeliever shall perish, in Jn 3:16, and also Satan, in Ezek 28:18-19 is doomed to self-destruction, a fire from within, in God's judgement, to "cease to be forever". The immortality of the soul is in question, therefore: after all, Adam was made but a "living soul", and he was eventually thus a dead soul, when he returned to the dust. He shall rise again, on that day, and this merciful act of God, by grace of Jesus Christ, extends surely to the wicked of humanity and the angels that they should comprehend their self-exclusion from eternal life in glory and then meet their end in just punishment for rejecting Jesus, by ceasing to exist, forever. In Rev too, hell fire shall fall on to the earth from God in heaven, but after that, in the next chapter, the earth is made new, so that fire ends sin & sinners forever, and renews the earth, doesn't it? God is trying by the drama of "eternal torment", etc, to get our attention, isn't he, while he can send angels and his own Son only in the likeness of men - his Son also becoming a man...True, in dreams these holy ones are seen more gloriously, but not eg. when Abraham was 'serving lunch' to the strangers. Also, the "rich man and Lazarus" parable is a dramatic lesson not about heaven or hell, but about the disbelief of the Jewish leaders in Jesus: for, that story did not match the Torah teaching compared to heathen thinking at that time, and Jesus said pointedly that someone being raised from the dead wouldn't 'help' those who wouldn't learn what Moses taught. Lazarus was raised by Jesus, and look what happened!

Can you back this up with more scripture?
