Thanks for this. I bought a 2017 Explorer 2 years ago and this just came off. Looks like they messed it up when someone went to replace the windshield before I bought it, broke a bunch of the snaps and band-aided it back together with rubber goop so they didn't have to pay to replace it. I ordered the parts before I found this video, but the video helped me with the replacement process.
I just bought a 2017 Explorer 2 weeks ago and the same thing happened. The piece actually broke and flew off on the highway. I got home and looked and the windshield must have been replaced because the glass company used windshield glue to glue this piece back down onto broken mounts. Glue failed!
It looks like every time the windshield has to be replaced those trim pieces have to come off, I’ve never looked closely at the explorer so maybe I’m wrong, in my neck of the woods we go through windshields every year or two because of the rocks on the freeways so I hope someone continues making these trim pieces for a long time, thanks for the video sir 👍😁

Took off the new water pump and the fins were sheared off because the front cover wasn't designed properly and the water pump ground the fins off when the engine was started.
Ford should have just went with a painted A pillar when designing the Explorer. This is a prime example of them doing what they do best......fixing something that isn't broken to begin with. A Ford retiree

@@vanchie21 You first have to figure out what's causing it to hang up. I would start by working the sunroof motor by hand. Go through its entire range of motion and if there is some type of mechanical issue with the track, you'll feel it. If you have a panoramic roof with 2 motors, you have to work them both at the same time. If the track is working OK and both pieces of glass are lined up properly, you're either not programing the motor right, or there's something wrong with the motor and its not holding the programming. Ford sunroofs are a real pain in the ass to program. I don't know where you're getting the procedure from, but you need to get a printout of the actual workshop manual, and follow it to the letter. Also, leave the headliner down until you get everything working. When you do the program, the instructions will tell you where the sunroof glass needs to be to start the process. If you can't get it in place with the motor, you'll have to do it manually. If the programming doesn't work, keep trying. Don't feel bad if you can't get it to work. Question is , why did Ford come up with that idea of putting that side trim anyways? It's Stupid.
Great video , now i have an idea how to fix mine.
As an auto glass tech easiest way to not get warranties for faulty molding design is to reinforce with Urethane on each clip.
Good video. I have to ask about the plastic to stick it together. If i don’t align correct, will I have a problem pulling it off and fixing.
Yeah because it snaps in and when you go to pull it apart you could break some of the snaps she got to be careful

some quick drying epoxy on the top pin to keep it attached to the panel.
Under warranty I can't because if it fails again they will back flag it
