Watching this after a recommendation on the War Room channel from last Saturday. Convinced me to get the game. Second hand available in the UK, if it’s as good as it seems I will get the still available upgrade kit taking it to second edition standards. Looking forward to watching the play through! Thank you!
Thanks a lot for the video. That was a very good presentation of the key concepts that may surprise newcomers. It’s a very enjoyable series on air combat, way less complicated and complex than the simulatory Fighting Wings series (that I also like a lot) and hence much easier to play. And it is very soloable on top of that. The part on the ratio of really fighting pilots remembers me a comment by a former USAAF/USAF airman in a documentary on the 1950 war in Korea in which he had fought. He was describing the regular missions they were doing protecting the bombers that attacked the supply routes of the Chinese across the Yalu. At some point he said that 10% (maybe 20%, can’t remember exactly) of the pilots were always coming back with empty ammo cases, having blasted away from the sky anything they could. Another 10% (respectively 20%) systematically had technical issues on the way to the mission zone, be it radio malfunction, guns not responding when tried, engine trouble, low oil pressure, you name it, and had to return to base and land early… at which time any technical issue had disappeared. And the rest, as he put it, were here for the ride: they would take off, head to the combat zone, fly from waypoint to waypoint and return to base, reporting during the debriefing they had not spotted anything… despite having clearly been in a spot full of tracers and burning planes falling down. And thanks for the allusion to the Airfix illustrations! Memories, memories.
Hi Eliane, great to see you here again, thank you! I enjoyed reading your feedback, really interesting and I've heard similar facts over the years. And yes, Airfix box-art, fantastic! 😊
An awesome presentation of what Wing Leader is about! I love the game, though time constraints have so far prevented me playing it (even solo, as it is perfectly soloable on its own). Hopefully this year!!! And have to hunt down the Upgrade packs for both Victories and Supremacy, as I have the original versions of those (+ all expansions).
This is simply an outstanding video showcasing this terrific game! Highly recommended; I can't wait to watch your follow on videos to this. Just a short time into this vid I had fight the urge to run off and grab my Wing Leader games and expansions off the shelf! And might I add that this wonderful game has no less than two base games, as well as (at this time) four expansions! This is a first class video for a first rate game! My compliments to you! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thats extremely kind of you Robert, thanks very much! I do love the game and I guess it feeds my aircraft geekness! I'm about to add an expansion to this and can't wait. Thank you for taking a look!
Great video! I played 3 scenarios from Supremacy a few months back and really enjoyed playing this game solo. A nice refresher watching your video as I look to get it back on the table this afternoon. Be good to see some further videos, scenario playthrough with a rules overview. Thanks.
Thank you for having a look Howard and for the feedback too! I hope you like the Playthrough in the next videos and manage to get your game out again 👍
Interesting. Thanks so much for this well made (as always) intodution to the game. Astonished that, for whatever reason (probably becasue GMT gives it a 5 for solo playabilty on the back of the game box), this one never popped up on my radar as a potential candidate as a solo gainming Thanks to you this has changed. I "fear" that once I watch your playthroughs, Wingleader will be the next game on my "To.buy List." 13 games on it at the moment, plus 3 Print 'n' Play (PnP) games (usually from the Wargames Vault), and last but not least, 3 PnP games which are for free (also from the Vault). Can't go wrong there.
Thank you very much for taking a look, I do appreciate your time! Like you, my 'wants list' is also continuously growing! PnP is a Good direction to go in sometimes 👍
Marvellous !!!! *takes notes and nods all along* What a great video and the concepts are well explained. Is a hard "sell" for many but one of my favourites. Rather play this with seeing the altitude map than a top down weirdness ( I tried multiple times with Wings... and I still can't wrap my head around the hexagom usage for altitude... nvm going off topic )
Great overview of the system. Have you tried Phil Sabin's (Professor of Strategic Studies in the War Studies Department of King's College London) Free Dogfight Deluxe variant, it is a more detailed game of individual plane manoeuvres using Wing Leader components and a different map and scale.
Aye, I know where you are coming from. Have over the time the same "problem" with these superb reveiews, playthroughs etc. Even my German wife listens in at times when I'm watching. She recognizes the voice, which she likes very much. Sooner or later she'll grin and state something like: " I guess a new game goes onto your "To-Buy List", right?" And she knows, whatever goes onto the list will eventually be bought.
The "Z" axis is an interesting concept. Thanks for the review. Lexi.
Thank you for commenting and taking a look!
Understanding Wing Leader: Victories with 5 Key Concepts! It would be great to hear your thoughts on the game, please Comment below! 😊👍
That was fantastically clear and helpful. Really well explained and your passion for aviation comes shining through!
Thanks Zilla, so glad that comes across. I appreciate the feedback 👍
A really splendid introduction to this great game, and a pleasure to watch. I will be recommending this one to new players 😊
I appreciate that Andrew, thank you very much! 👍
I just got this! Can't wait to play along when you make more videos on it!
Great Pierre, thanks for looking. I'm going to do a simple one First and then a more complex one!
I'll be watching this with interest - got both early and late war set😁
Ah brilliant! I'm pleased about that. Thanks Przemek! 👍

Thank you Heth, Great to hear that you're a fan of the game!👍
@@soloboardgaming Yes ! The way you explained the core concepts is really good ( has no numbers crunch and dissection of rules ).
@@HethwillWargames I'm pleased about that, thank you!

Thanks for that starman, I'm pleased you thought it was OK. I've not tried Dogfight yet but I do intend to. Heard Good things about it 👍
Looks like your not doing videos I hope your well
Bought it
Please stop making videos about games I’m trying not to buy😉 Looking forward to watch this!
Gosh, sorry! But I'm pleased you're taking a look, thanks 👍😊
