    hey moto,
    may have a tip for you!
    just a little drilling trick that i have picked up from work (i work on boats).
    but when drilling/holesawing into gelcoat you start off by drilling in reverse to avoid taking big chips out of the gelcoat! i have done it to a few other things similar to this video and it often makes the start of the hole cleaner and its just made it alittle less risky haha
    love the videos mate!

    Oh my god. I'd be so bothered with the left side. I'm too OCD for that... actually.. I suppose if I had 4 bikes, a badass jeep, and the best job imaginable I wouldn't be so protective 😅

    • @motonosity
      @motonosity  7 лет назад +14

      Yeah, personally I wish I had gotten it more perfect. I was pretty excited with how the right side went and was hoping the left would go as well. It's a much tighter squeeze for that hole tho, if you know what I mean.

    You should use silver or metal color swingarm spools. It is bound to be scratched each time you lift it up. Other colors will only make it easier for you to see the scratches. Just my opinion.

    • @TSTindustries
      @TSTindustries 7 лет назад +54

      TheGrundig81 the sliders protect more vital and expensive components. Fairings are consumable.

    • @TheGrundig81
      @TheGrundig81 7 лет назад +10

      i know, but you could buy more expensive sliders, that dont require you to damage the original fairings ;)
      I would never do this, because it doesn't make sense and it look ugly, but it's my opinion not the law :) i would rather buy engine case protector then to use this slider's method.

  • @Deaddog03
    @Deaddog03 7 лет назад

    Case covers > frame sliders. Both, ideally, (spools are awesome, but I use a cheap set of skateboard wheels and I've crash tested them. Saved my swingarm) but an aftermarket case cover set like woodcraft, protrudes enough to keep the expensive stuff from breaching and dumping oil on the road or track and ruining your weekend (or months if you're on a budget). Woodcraft case covers allowed me to continue to race, after an 80mph off camber lowside. Give the new guys a sexy video on a case cover install. At the very least, the stator cover, since that's the most vulnerable of the covers. If you've already done one and I'm talking out of my ass, then my bad. Keep em coming!

    • @Deaddog03
      @Deaddog03 7 лет назад

      Case covers also don't have protruding bolts that could bend and snap inside the frame pass-through, that would require extraction post-crash. Definitely worth mentioning.

  • @jdwmmedia
    @jdwmmedia 7 лет назад +19

    So, so so true. some new riders will get an exhaust or a shit ton of stickers or other shiz, but the first thing you need to do when you pick up a new set of wheels is protect it as best as you can. dont skimp on a crash cover protector set and a fork, bar end, frame, and swingarm slider set available through many different companies. too many people put it off and think theyll get to it when they get to it, and sadly end up dropping their brand spanking new bike and have to pay out the ass for new plastics and/or god knows what else just bc they didnt see gravel in an intersection, etc. if it doesnt already have it, THE FIRST MOD ON YOUR NEW BIKE NEEDS TO BE CRASH PROTECTION!!!! DONT BE A NOOB/DUMMY ABOUT THIS SHIT!!!

    • @jdwmmedia
      @jdwmmedia 7 лет назад +2

      Dont forget to use loctite to prevent road vibrations causing your sliders to loosen out of the bolt threads. loctite essentially glues them in place. i once lost a slider bc it got shaken loose on the interstate... rip slider!!

  • @tomorrowtoday4839
    @tomorrowtoday4839 7 лет назад

    Suggestions: LocTite your spools in place. Real bummer to lose one, especially on a track day. For the fork, LocTite one side, it's one less thing that can come apart. Bar ends: especially on certain bikes, it is important to make sure the throttle motion is unimpeded after installation, with smooth and full rotation. Thanks!

    I realize TST is probably giving you some 'sponsor' support... and I respect that.
    But I will add a recommendation for Puig frame sliders... they are shaped sort of like a "3D Smile" so they Slide over some of the irregular surfaces that a typical slider might catch into and flip the bike up in the air... I checked TST website in hopes they may carry Puig products...but they do not. But they are a product my Brother and I have been Very pleased with.

      Yup, the fairings are designed to be consumables in a crash. People just don’t get that. Now I do see the value on getting a case cover if you do a lot of aggressive riding. Or a cage like you said if you do a lot of stunting

    The bike is beautiful with the fairings on, but man it's REALLY ugly without em, haha. Nice tutorial and I totally agree about crash protection!

    Hey Motonosity, I've just recently found your page and think it's full of useful information. Especially, that I'll be getting a 17 R6 here soon. Could you tell me how long the sliders took, start to finish, to complete? You made it look so easy. :)
    Also, any plans for an exhaust? Either slip-on or full? Curious as to what your thoughts are on that and what you have your eye on. I saw TST has a Toce slip for the 17 R6 but it didn't look like it'd do much in regards to the sound but I could be wrong!
    Thanks!

    you can buy crash bungs that you don't have to drill your panels out, and crash protection is an alteration not really a modification

    Suspension is your first and most important mod. Springs, cartridges, everything you need to make it correct for you. The factory doesn't know anything about you therefore the suspension can't be set perfectly for you. If you don't get that done right, you could get injured or killed. That's a lot more important.

    • @64t120r
      @64t120r 7 лет назад

      Hahaha. Ok, give your bike more accessories. I'll make sure my bike can handle everything I do. Look at the other race teams and tell me how many of them put sliders on their bikes.
      Remember, one of the biggest killers on the road is ego.

      So, let's see if I got this straight. A guy goes down at 130 mph only his fairings will get damaged? Nothing else. No potential hospital visit, the engine doesn't get scraped, no frame damage, foot pegs are still perfectly straight along with the brake and shifter?
      Do I have that right?

    • @64t120r
      @64t120r 7 лет назад

      Ah, I see you're trying to trash my credibility. Apparently, you are either a corporate shill for the slider company or you are helping put out the videos.
      It's also apparent you are pretty young and have very limited experience riding. Especially the way you keep trying to insult me with your, "How dumb are you?" question.
      First, the badly damage portion came up in my initial comments.
      Second, most of the bikes sold today are made for faster riding. Dude, that's a no brainer. When companies have speed limiters set at, roughly, 186 mph, that tells you something.
      Third, do you actually ride. Or at least something bigger than a Vespa?
      Fourth, I am curious why you would argue equipment protection over a persons potential harm?
      Fifth, if you do actually own a bike, did you buy it new? If you did, did the dealership ask you your weight? Do you know why?
      Sixth, what two major components of a motorcycle keep the bike on the road?

    • @64t120r
      @64t120r 7 лет назад

      That 4th section on my post is important. Why do you argue protecting the equipment over rider safety?
      Just to make you aware, I am going to repost this conversation so that people know to use a different companies products and such. At the very least, I will be mentioning it. Which is perfectly legal since we have been going back and forth in a public forum.

    • @64t120r
      @64t120r 7 лет назад

      Why are suspension settings crap?
      The suspension and the tires are what keep a bike on the road. You do know that? Right?
