The mad scientist angle is perfect, they did look a bit like that in their beginnings, and also their first albums were influenced by Eastern Europe music (they even recorded their debut album in Germany). Not a "laughing out loud" type of parody, but incredibly clever.

DW has to show up just as much as Annie does! Heh, they went for the tangerine crewcut... heh-heh this is really silly and amusing, heh-heh." And thus Lenox spake... and I started chortling like when the first few kernels start to pop and then like all suddenly....! ............ hmmmm, I just remembered I think I was going to comment about how offensive it was and how they got the dates wrong and the albums out of order... it would have been so hilarious.
They did have a bit of the Nazi-Mad Scientist look in the Sweet Dreams video, come to think of it. I thought 'Lennox' was trained to kill, I kept waiting for her/him to attack Jamie. LOL
their 1st album was recorded in Cologne Germany with help from producer Conny Plank and the bassist and drummer from Can who were the greatest band ever, and from Cologne. They have them to thank for their early sound. They sound nothing like Eurythmics though. Hear their early albums.

It's a play on their early 'cold' robotic aesthetic and the electronic production of their work, it screamed 'mechanical' - it suits to imagine the duo as like a mad European scientist and his monstrous android creation. Also, think of some of the stereotypes of eloquent Hollywood villains, like Hans Gruber - German, cold and calculating. It's a stereotype ever since WW2 of Germans being sinister and calculating.
Well youve got to look at humour in context & not com pare it to todays attitudes or society..I gues s some jokes & sketches' age' bettef than others & many are banned on the BBC from Litlle Britain accused of racism & sexism ..to a certain extent I agred HOWEVER humour is becoming ' safe ' boring + vanilla a lot of humour today becomes almost offensive because the BBC etc is trying to sanitise it into now not being funny. A s far left as I have always be en..even I.wou ld rather have a proper laugh at a slightly dodgy comedy sketch tj han the woke rubbish today ..Little Britain & League kf Gentlemen we miss you ..the Fast Show too
