About a year after its release, I bought an open box a7III for its hybrid capabilities. In the past year have been using it heavily for concert photography. It is still a brilliant enough camera that I just bought a second A7III body so I don't have to swap lenses at a gig as often.
I'm surprised that no one is talking about the subtle change in your backdrop lighting! I really like this composition and it's looks extremely clean! Keep this backdrop lighting, it's a winner!
When A7III came out I immediately sold my A7II, it's that big of a difference. A7IV is nice, but I can't justify upgrading yet, maybe if some game changing upgrade happen with A7V in the future haha
Mark you're the best reviewer ever, your videos are like a ray of sunshine on a Stormy Newfoundland day. You definitely did not pay me to write this review 🤣🤣🤣
Hi! So do you think for projects(commercial and contents), weddings. Having the a7iii and a fx30 is a big help. Because I am still thinking if do I still need to get the fx3 (but it would dry up my bank account if I buy this camera) so I am thinking of the fx30. My only problem is the apsc sensor. But upon checking on this review I think it is so good having this two camera right now and upgrade to fx3 or if theres a new release once I got a better budget. What do you suggest. I am used to do multiple camera set up so I use my a7iii to medium shot my dji osmo pocket 3 for wide shot and fx30 for running camera and tight shots.
The FX30 would be a great choice. You won't regret it. The FX3 has amazing lowlight with the dual ISO at 800 and 12,800 - but unless you have a lot of lowlight situations - the FX30 will be awesome
Came here right as I saw the FX30 take a huge price drop with the A9 and recent a7 releases as well. Wow. I should have sold my A7iii body probably a month or two ago when they were still fetching ~$1100-1200 on the used market as that would have made the $1598 brand new price of the FX30 a no brainer for me!
@@samiabamiaThere is no 10 bit color depth or 4k60fps. That hurts it for professional use a bit. Although it still is great and can be used professionally no doubt. It should be better in lowlight then the fx30 though.
Thanks for the video I need a second body for my a7iv. I shoot wedding, mainly video and sometimes photo. I need a second body and not sure if I should get another a7iv or a7iii or FX30.. Will there be a noticeable difference in video quality to my a7iv?
I would get the fx30 because you need two card slots. you have to have a backup recording in case something happens to one sd card. you cannot lose someone’s wedding footage. It will still be pretty good in lowlight, but just make sure you carry a light for when you need it.
quick question here. I'm getting myself into the filmmaking world and I'm willing to buy a camera for my cinematic projects. I've seen the FX30 is slightly more expensive than the A7III and I'm seeing they're both great options. Bearing in mind my specific case... which one is best?
Which one would make a better “B” camera with an a7siii? I have an a7s3 and an a73 and have to do a lot of color correction to make it more similar. Is there a better “b” camera that wouldn’t need that much work to blend the two ? Thanks in advanced
Im not sure if the DR in the a7iii is better taking into account that you'll probably be shooting in Slog 2 because of the 8bit codec and besides in Gerald Undone channel there is a comparison of DR between the fx3 and fx30 and is quite close, both in slog 3 which has more Dynamic Range than slog 2
it will be much closer in video, yes - but photos the a7iii has a fair bit more. And the A7III will be more useable in low light with isn't "technically" isn't dynamic range - but if you footage in lower light is very noisy, then you won't benefit as much with the fx30 because even though the dynamic range indicates you can shoot down there - it doesn't take into account how clean the image is
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I 100% agree, in photo mode the DR on the a7iii is quite a bit better, and you are right about the low light too ¡Thanks for your response!
A7 iii owner here and i would never go back to apsc again. If you are a video shooter, go for the FX3 or the A7s iii or even the A7 iv. If you don't have the money, just get a used A7iii instead of the apsc FX30. That's just Sony trying to allure more people into her system.
I can see not wanting to lose full frame for sure. but I still shoot some video micro 4/3 and tons of apsc. for video I am usually looking for other things besides sensor size. it’s nice to have full frame usually, but it’s not essential for a lot of things I shoot. There are still lots of Arri Alexas and canon cinema cams that are still apsc - so I’m not going to argue with them 🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i can't argue with that. You have more experience than me ( and in stand up also), but for wedding video i would stick to full frame. I guess i have the "bigger engine" syndrome 🤣
Curious what’s an apsc? I’m looking to buy a camera planning to take a gap year and really want to lean into my creative pursuits. What’s so bad about the FX30, was initially leaning towards a7iii until I saw the fx30 😅 is there something lacking with the fx30?
Question, I am currently having the a7III, was thinking to upgrade to a7IV. However am also thinking to get FX30 for video work and keep my a7III for photography. Is this much better? To have a7III + FX30 combo?
I think the A7iv is better for video than the fx30 if you don’t need the 4k120. It has better lowlight, better dynamic range and slightly better stability. The FX30 has the 4k120 and no chance of overheating and a better menu and buttons. But the fx30 as a studio workhorse with an a7iii free for photos is a tempting option too, But the A7iv is a bit better for photos and the a7iii and a bit better in most video situations than the fx30.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you for your explanation! Although sometimes might wish to have 4K 120fps for dramatic slow motion shots but it seems like a7IV is a better choice to upgrade. I will go for a7IV, thank you!
it really depends. For longer video runtime, 4k120, and raw recording the fx30 is a must. but great lowlight, great photos, and full frame pics and vids - A7iv
I want to know if it's possible to replicate S-Cinetone on Dougie? I saw some settings for the a7III that people used on A6400 and were pleased with the results. My goal is to have beautiful-looking cinematic video straight from the camera.
