This year we are having a turkey dinner with some friends. First time in 3 years that we haven't been out in the middle of nowhere . Happy Thanksgiving to you too Ralph. Hopefully we'll make it up your way next year.
The mechanism that processes cinnabar ore is called a retort. Mercury vapors are distilled from the ore and cooled into a liquid. At 5:45, maybe the wire was a crude radio antenna? I made one of baling wire when I was a 1950's kid. Wood planks on the bed springs prevented a sleeper from being poked and pinched if they didn't have a mattress or thick pad. Been there, done that.
Those cabins are awesome. I love crickets and the noise they make. Lovely wild horses …. As free as the wind. Those baby birds 🤙🏽Nice to see my buddy Tonto …. Yeah he’s a beast. 🤙🏽🙌🏽hey Dave will look at ure vid as well ✌🏽
Tonto is a total beast, wait until you see what we put him through today Bernardo he just grinned the whole time. Dave is fun to explore with he finds some really cool spots.
LOL. We say that deliberately because so many people comment. But if you go into a shop to buy one, they are advertised as a Hot water heater! Glad you are enjoying our explores, Mitchell.
An interesting exploration. We'll definitely have to do it again someday! It's interesting just how far apart the mine operation is with the mill, cabins, mines, etc. All being in different sections of the mountain. The antithesis of most, to say the least. Great video, as always, Steven and Andrea!!
You just found a Mini Alain Mormon Cricket Space Pod, don't confuse these with the native "Cow Pattie", which looks almost the same, the ships land on a high place, they can only jump out, not walk, the missing piece was the escape hatch, now you know how the Mormon crickets get here, the thing you see on the tail is actually a deadly Ray Gun, but are only used for protection, so don't step on one of the little guys or gals, very hard to tell which is which, but can be said about, Nope not going there :0)
Loved this explore. Steve jumping with the Mormon cricket made me laugh. We were in Nevada on hwy 50 several years ago going up to Austin, and there were millions of those crickets covering the road, slimy and slippery once they were run over. We got out to see them on the edge of the mass and our little dog Eddie had one climb his leg and he was kicking trying to get it off. I pulled it off and we got back in the car and found a couple hitch hiker crickets going with us, yuk. In Austin they said they get millions of them every few years and eat everything in front of them, they had to use firehoses to keep them out of town.
They do get millions, all crossing the road getting squished leaving the roads red. Pretty disgusting really. They're all right in small doses, but you're right, they destroy all the crops and caused mayhem with the early pioneer Mormons - hence their name. Glad you enjoyed our pin, Lorna. Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks guys! The views are always stunning at these places for sure! You are going to love it down here in the south where the weather is great and the desert hides many abandoned secrets!
Thanks for watching, Harald. Maybe one day you will be able to visit some of the places we have explored. Would love to come to Sweden and explore your beautiful country.
Well it was great to see a site with minimal bullet holes in the structures, must have been a shortage of ammo around there !!!, once again a good coverage by you two and stay safe Cheers
It's way out there in the middle of nowhere, which also helps. It is good seen see that some buildings have been preserved. Thanks for watching Brian and Mary.
I attempted to drive to the Homestead in Pahrump today 4/2/23 and got 2 miles in and road was terrible. Didn’t want to risk the next 13 miles! since I no idea what was ahead. How did you do it? I’m impressed you did. I have a stock FJ Cruiser with skid plates, no lift.
Hi guys. Happy Thanksgiving. I always had a window over the sink an one by the toilet. It's hard to find a house with that now. You did good by yourself Andrea. Great video thank you
What a nice reminds of an intact mining camp. Some parts of the camp looked still in pretty good condition minus the graffiti. Did the Mormon crickets help to? Have a good safe Holiday. And keep hydrated.
Well this cinder bar mine looks pretty complex .They must have had high hopes . And that cow pie is a two-handed one good size . Anyway thank you for the adventure PS Has anyone ever had skunk roadkill 😂🏆🇺🇸❤️? Jackalope maybe but not skunk 😂😟
As ALWAYS, an interesting and informative video, Andrea and Steven. It certainly wasn't in operation long. Stay safe, and Happy Thanksgiving. You NEVER disappoint...👏💛🧡👏
Thank you for bringing us this magnificent and most interesting video presentation, it is much appreciated the work you do in bringing these historical features to people who for many reasons would not be able to go to such places. It is amazing the lengths that were gone to to develop these places so that ore could be mined and smelted to the great benefit of society.
So glad that you enjoyed this explore, John. We are always amazed at how these places operated in such remote locations. Not only is all the equipment taken there but the building materials and supplies not to mention how they lived. Pretty amazing.
Pretty sure that cow turd was already dry when someone put it were you found it. Another great and interesting place to explore. Hope you guys are further south by now, escaping the cold from the north.
The T-shirt with Route 66 looks like the T-shirt I wanted to buy at the Road Kill Restaurant on Route 66 between Las Vegas, Nevada and Flagstaff Arizona. Great Food and nice attractions.
@@PinInTheAtlas i live in Peoria Illinois so I been to Nevada 3 times, twice with the Military and once with my girlfriend. We drove out of Las Vegas, stopped at Hoover Dam, than wanted to go to Flagstaff to spend the night and head up to the Grand Canyon. So we were hunger and stopped at the "RoadKill Restaurant". Yes the people at the Restaurant were very friendly. My girlfriend and I have been to the beginning of Route 66 all the way to the end of the Pier at Santa Monica. I wish I could get my girlfriend to explore here in the United States, we both have been to a lot of places. I spent 11 months on 3 Aircraft Carriers in the Mediterranean Sea and I saw a lot and as a Marine, drank a lot. LOL I went to volunteer to do another 11 months in the Mediterranean Sea but Uncle Sam changed our orders and sent us West Pac to Vietnam but my Squadron went on a head of the USS Saratoga and I was put in charge of 9 other Marines to keep our living area clean and ready for my Unit along with keeping our equipment secure. We got to the Philippines and my Squadron was there and married up to our sister Unit out of Japan. So we would fly into DaNang Vietnam and Ubon Thailand in C - 130s and KC - 130s and work on our EA - 6A Aircraft. Spent 11 months there, got married to a Filipino and she asked me to take some of her clothes back to the States so I did. I have never gone through Customs before and wasn't expecting it. I put my wife's clothes on top of my gear and locked up my foot locker. So I got to Japan and they put all of us through Customs. So when they wanted me to open my foot locker I did and the Customs Agent went to open my foot locker, his eyes popped out of his head. I completely forgot about my wife's nighties were right on top of everything, so the Agent looked at me and than again to the clothes and back and forth 3 times and closed my foot locker and told me to get going after I re locked it so I did. Than it hit me that the Agent saw the women's things and thought I was gay. I started laughing when I realized what just happened. Anyway went from Japan to Fairbanks Alaska that was - 45 degrees we had just left the Philippines and it was 120 in the shade than onto Home Base, Cherry Point North Carolina, so I and 9 other Marines traveled around the Earth. Took 11 months to do but we did it.
Nursery rhyme 70 yrs ago......dirty birdie in the sky, did you drop a turd in my eye? If you did I will not cry.....I'm just glad cows don't fly! Now how did that cowpie get there.....mom! there is a bigfoot!
Tuesday mornings. Yee-Haa!!! It's a great day to be alive. Something you can view that's not full of ....well, you know what. I think it was all the "crickets" that closed that place down. Can you imagine sitting there eating your oats and splat! "Hey ma, look another high-diver come to join us for breakfast" She'd say:"Yea pa, looks like breakfast of champions again today."I think that one vat with the pipes in it was part of the distillery for the mercury. People make a big whoopy-doo about mercury, but in its metallic state it's pretty safe. It's the salts of mercury or the vapors that you want to stay away from. I've actually met people in Mexico that after a night of drinking would drink a shot of mercury, clean them right out. Within an hour! What a blast!!
THANK YOU FOR A FINE VIDEO.....HAPPY THANKSGIVING, HOPE YOU ARE IN A COMFY PLACE..C U NEXT TIME.SAFE TRAVELS..

Those baby birds were interesting. They seemed large. I wonder what type of bird they were.
Not sure. Maybe crows as they were the only large birds we saw flying around.
Great show! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks James. Happy Thanksgiving.
The first bottle you picked up was a used crown royal whiskey; used I bet. Another great pin in the atlas, thanks for sharing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎😎😎😎😎

I remember as a kid in Illinois, tar paper shacks, or upgrade 90 #rolled roofing, and the asphalt shingle that resembled bricks.
It is always so fascinating to find it in such good shape. It looked like it could have been installed just days before our visit.

Yes, we are heading for warmer climates, Peter. Exploring along the way.
Hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving 😊
That was something seeing active nest with youngins.
They were huge chicks too. Not sure what they were. Maybe crows. Cute nonetheless.
@@PinInTheAtlas Might have been turkey buzzards? Maybe?
Interested by the overhead wire. I wonder where it went from and where it went. Power? Phone? Radio antenna? Thanks for your fascinating explores.

That cabin at the end looks like my house before the Maid comes .. 😬
🤣
Uhhh human🤣🤣 perhaps a drunk human... from the Crown Royal... picked up cow pie for a game of cow pie frizbee😁
Would loved to see this b4 the cabins fell apart
So would we. Some cabins have been looked after by volunteers. Unfortunately time and vandalism take their toll.
Spiders are evil! Also, I have a bottle of Crown Royal in my cupboard! It's not cheap! Great explore! Be safe, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks Kerry and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
Now re the "cow's turd", obviously someone was hungry ay !!!!Cheers you blokes
Hey guys was that guy someone's son ?✌❤😎
Dave is a fellow explorer. We teamed up with him for several of our explores.
The longtime password when one was questioned at the tiny peephole door was yodeled, (Yodel lay he, yodel lady, who...).
🤣
Don't watch the water bottle!
Spiders. Scary. I hate spiders!!!
So does Steve 😂
Peep hole for male check before entering brothel?

That is very possible Victoria! We had to giggle at the site of it, just so random.
