- Every day, thousands of undocumented migrants and refugees from Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond use Mexico as a transit country to reach the US in search of a better life.
But a new trend has taken authorities by surprise.
Tens of thousands of refugees and migrants now want to make Mexico their new home.
However, obtaining permits remains challenging due to government policies, highlighting a reluctance to fully embrace this migration trend that could benefit both locals and newcomers.
Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports from Mexico City.

This was an actual news report. It is not only Haitians and Central Americans, but also Cubans and Venezuelans who have a political, social and economic crisis that is happening there in those countries. But do not emigrate to Chile or the United States, Brazil, Canada, Peru and Mexico, those countries have many problems migrating to countries like Uruguay, Paraguay, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, Suriname, Costa Rica and Panama. Now there is a program so that migrants, when you show up at the border between the United States and Mexico, can apply or they can take you to go to Spain and Canada between those governments.

Maybe the main issue is overpopulation. If you cannot feed yourself and live in poverty, a responsible adult would control their urges and not have children until they are in a better financial situation and work towards building up themselves, contributing to building their community in the end. Even if you are financially well, think before you have children. Even in 1st world countries, not everybody wants children and most children are born due to one time night stands and people do not want children. Japan is a wealthy country and their population is declining. The whole world is putting a strain on planet earth.

Im Mexican, let me put some context here, since 2010 Mexico's economy has grown steadily, thousands of mexican people in other countries have come back to initate businesses and although there is still mexican migration to other countries, the number of people has been decreasing over the years, now, the majority of people trying to cross the Northern border are from Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia, even from Eastern Europe, however, the most problematic people to deal with are Hondurans, Salvadorians, Venezuelans, Colombians and Haitians. To solve this crisis, caused by this government by the way, many companies and the government offered work to them, thousands have preferred to stay in Mexico and start a new life here, but others declined this offer, instead, they demanded health coverage, assistance, food, etc, the government had to built some shelters for them but the ones that I mentioned above complained because those shelters were "uncomfortable", not even the Africans dare to demand things from the Mexican government like those immigrants and I can tell you for sure, we are getting tired of these people and the open border policy of this government.
It's doesn't apply to all, but it's kind of a pattern, many Colombians are part of the cartels, kidnappers, gunmen as well as Salvadorians, you can see Venezuelans and Hondurans begging for money, but if you offer a job, or work to them, they leave you immediately, other Venezuelas are part of the human trafficking gangs.
On the side these Colombians make those like my mom, her fmaily and many others look terrible they male them look as if their all criminals also terrible in the sense because their doing everything illegal meanwhile the above I mentioned did everything right to come here legally.
I am going to assume these are not the blanco Colombians like my mom, her family and similar family's rather these are the mezos & the indigenous who are causing all the havoc when they come here to the states illegally..

I had to get ankle surgery in Mexico in Cancun. What I discovered is Mexico is not a third world country. It may not be as wealthy as the United States. But you can live decent in Mexico compared to some of those other countries in Latin America.

There is no "deficit of labor" in Mexico. 60% of the economically active people in Mexico are in the informal sector. In addition, most of the jobs (maquiladoras) are concentrated in the northern border cities and people can't simply move there with families in tow. If Mexico accepts those people, tens of millions more will follow with many of them wanting to cross into the U.S.
We all came from somewhere, on some point. Nobody is illegal in a stolen land. We all Americans.

I had to move out of Southern California some 20 years ago. Any entry job that I would apply for, you had so 15 or 20 other guys there. Africans, Latino americano can come to school in Eastern Europe, schools are free, health care is free, in Eastern Europe we have the lowest unemployment rate, shops are open on Sundays, you can earn extra money on weekends. I am somewhat surprised that AJ didn't infer that this problem was caused by Israel.
Helping a nation build its infrastructure, crack down on crime, and build it’s public education can stabilize that nation which can make it into a lesser problem for your nation as their problems aren’t spilling over into yours as often. This is the positive impact of helping foreign nations.
We in America seem to love meddling into foreign affairs and throwing money at foreign nations, we give billions to Israel with little to no return other than that Israel seems to continuously drag us into altercations in the Middle East by claiming that it’s some how in our interest for “our” security, an example of how giving money to foreign nations can have a negative effect and doesn’t actually do squat for us. But if we’re going to shell out trillions of our money on other nations why not invest in our neighbors instead of isreal? Helping the other nations in the Americas that are in dire need of it could do a lot to drastically dwindle the immigration crisis, drug epidemic, and everything else connected to it. We’re already spending it, why not spend it where it would actually benefit us?
