As a guy who's family came from Boston I can say this with everything in me, I am forever grateful that we had Bill Russell on our basketball team. Some day, I hope the rest of Boston (especially the WHITE population) will realize it too. I look forward to a day when racism becomes nothing more than a bad memory in the history of the US.
I read his book "Go Up for Glory" when I was 9 and it helped shape my views on race relations forever. He is a major reason why he received this award from Barack Obama. Thank you, Mr. Russell.
