As mucha as i may disagree in certain aspects of your opinions and suggestions and such due to my own point of view regarding some stuff and all that, i must admit that your videos are really helping me designing my TCG. It's still on development, and i might not have the resources at the moment to bring it to the physical format, but i must show my gratitude towards your work an effort.
For my game I went practical. Partially just because I don't have photoshop skills. The practical part of the design is more that the relevant stats of a card are always viable by being in the upper left. With the game being a Deckbuilding game, I put the Cost in the upper right (where magic has theirs) because it doesn't matter in hand. To me, you make sure all your needed info is where it can be seen when needed, then make it all look good. I will post few pictures of my cards in your Discord.
I just designed my 1st TCG card, and while my game isn't super complicated, I'm struggling to make enough room for the art because of the multiple abilities on the card taking up so much text space. Most cards will only have one or two abilities, but this cornerstone is the exception with three simple abilities. May have to cut the number of abilities, shrink the text size (not ideal, I want it readable), or find other ways to shorthand so it all fits.
Out of curiosity what is your opinion on TCG's with odd shaped cards? The reason I got back into TCG and want to make my own was because I found my old Heroscape cards from the board game. They always made me wish for more games with unique layouts. I'm a video game dev so I was thinking it would be an interesting direction to go since I don't have to worry about how it feels in the players hands.
If you're going digital, then choose any shape you like. But for physical cards, I would recommend keeping to a standard size to remain compatible with other assets such as card sleeves and deck boxes. Custom shapes can be an increased cost when looking into production, but if you are a digital game, then, of course, none of these limitations apply.
My son (10yr) + his friend and I have put together a card game. The rough draft is getting printed now. Would you be interested on testing it out one day?

Awesome video! I think my game nailed the layout part pretty well!
Glad to hear it!
I have a pretty solid idea on what I want to do with my Card boarders, just need to figure out how to best digitize it.
Creativity is sparked from limitations.
You'll figure it out, and it may even lead to a creative outcome you never even considered earlier.

Wild how sooooo many guides to modern card game design is "hey, you know yugioh? Like, maybe don't do that"
Love how you break it down. Totally unexpected
Thank you

I appreciate that you came to me.
If they make a tutorial video or even just a showcase video, let me know, and I will check it out.
Ill be here soon ...
I thing Art should not be less that 2/3 of the card size, players remember the shape more than the text …
Too many effect will result in just a convoluted design
Your esthetic elements should impart information as well
