I need to get me one of those pink spoons to help keep me warm.
I watched that last video and was thinking everyone that goes camping should carry a multi tool I carry 1 every day and its always handy ❤
Truely inspired to get out there in the winter. I need a lot more experience, and gear. But I thank you for being one of the few all season RUclips backpackers, not only for the education, but for the entertainment as well.
I have the 105 version of that pack because of you talking about it videos . Fantastic equipment. Thanks . I saw Kane’s video, I watch all three of you. Great stuff
I use Sitka for my shell, then Rab Positron under it. Msr remote tent, Burton goretex gloves, Marmot Col sleeping bag, Columbia omniheat toboggan and neck gator, merino tec base layers, S2S etherlite xt extreme and Kamik icebreaker boots. The windchill was -42F degrees and the temp in the tent was -18F. You could hear the pee bag freezing only minutes after use. BTW, don't forget to brush your zippers with PB blaster or the condensation will freeze them shut. Took me one time before I saw an Arctic expeditionist use sno-seal on his. I love the cold nights!!!
Looking forward to seeing more budget camping videos.
These prices are really killing the hobby for us casuals
🥲
Love your trip videos Justin! And your gear ones too❤ definitely don’t leave home without your pink titanium spoon!
Have fun on that trip! To solve the cold feet issue, cut out some old smooth closed cell foam as foot beds and put them in your booties. Thats what I did on my 17 day Yellowstone trip. Worked great! Can't wait to see the video
good quality gear saved me back then. like back when I was still amateur and bought my first quality gear, it's a sleeping pad and down sleeping bag. my tent was still the cheap one, got rain for all night and it's seeping through. my tent is pretty much flooded around my leg. but fortunately my sleeping pad is thick enough and my sleeping bag is warm enough despite being soaked in the foot. some people have died in this trail without proper gears.
Kane’s video pop up on my feed yesterday, looks like you guys had an epic time! Looking forward to your video Justin!
Thanks!
I use a small nemo pad for my feet, works well with booties or changing socks.
Man you need a pulk! Backpacks in deep snow can be rough
95% of the terrain I winter camp/backpack in doesn't work for pulks (lots of up and down hill and side-sloping).
@@JustinOutdoorsmy condolences haha jk that’s too bad… they are awesome
I use a pulk with wooden dowels criss crossed and clipped to belt. Ride it down hill. Even traversing diagonally up hill it tracks right behind my trail.
Have you ever tried Helsport footbags? Cotton boots that come up over your knees, you can also put foam in the bottom for more insulation from the ground.
Love your videos, keep up the good work!
Awesome information Justin, thank you
I can’t bring myself to ditch my black diamond headlamps for the nitecore. Main reason is because, as far as I can tell, nitecore headlamps don’t have any waterproof rating at all. Kind of crazy to me to bring a headlamp into a the backcountry that could die in wet weather.
Then don’t ditch your black diamond I have 2 nitecores and they have been in all sorts of wet weather, and they’ve never stopped working, but I wouldn’t suggest trying to go underwater for any period of time with them
Nitecore nu25 is ip66 btw
@@JasonSnailer oh! Well then. I stand corrected haha. Thanks for that info!! Gonna pick one up. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@backpackingcapebreton anytime.
Use backcountry bidet at subzero temperatures - you won't need coffee to wake up in the morning.
I love how you recommend affordable decathlon gear when they work well, but they are so hard to find in US. Either out of stock or not available 😢
That tent looks pretty amazing, but the price! 🤯 My dog and I could easily both fit in there. If we ever go winter camping.
Good idea with the smaller sit pad for your feet! 👍I love my MEC booties too, but just sitting around, the cold does come up from the ground after a while.
Awesome gear! Good luck!
Always a great video. The incharge cable is unavailable on that link...gloves are from UK, nothing on US decathlon site.
Have a fantastic trip 😃
Awesome content love the channel
I seen one of your older vids where you were running vapour barriers in your boots. What are your thoughts? Also cheers ! I’m also from Alberta haha
Have a cool trip!
Greetings from Europe: try out weird looking insolation mesh shirts. Works. Brynje for example.
Another brilliant video. Have fun on your trip. I love winter trips. Please be careful not to sweat too close to camp!
You can also get a connector to convert your stove into a propane stove. Propane operates down to -40°F.
FYI It looks like that sleeping bag has been discontinued, and I don't see a replacement on Thermarest's website.
looking forward to the trip vid
Great video, love to see all the cold weather gear. I saw a Slingfin peek in on some of your shots. Awesome tent!!! I love mine. I have the Portal 2, also super sturdy in bad weather.
Ice fishing mittens. Mittens are always better than gloves to keep your fingers warm. That’s all I’m gonna say.
Don't go dehydrated.better take good care.
It’s a shame decathlon doesn’t sell some of the items on the us site, like that down parka.
Good luck with your trip! Wont the pad at the bottom restrict pole use?
Laughing my ass off at how many powers that Pink Titanium Spoon has had over the years.
Do you generally prefer bringing a 40 or 50 degree synthetic over quilt?
What size is your EE Overquilt? I thought I was it was a 50F quilt. How much warmth do you think it adds?
You're fingers got the what when they were warming back up??? 🤣🤣
Screaming Barfies
Screaming barfies. It hurts, makes you wanna scream and sometimes even barf .. good times 😉
You are a G
😎
Can you source the link hooks???? I need these! Thanks
do you dig a cat hole when in deep snow, or how does that go? I've been in the sierras in minimal snow, but I'm always looking for somewhere to dig without snow?
You have a Rab Mythic Ultra jacket in the Thumbnail but not in the video !!!! How come ????
Screaming Barfies! Time to start a new punk band.
What were the deciding factors for taking the Nitecore headlamp over the BD Deploy you have been testing?
Higher lumen for night travel
Great video, why would a titanium spoon in a sleeping bag keep you warmer?
🤦♂️
Do the toothpaste tabs have fluoride?
How do you deal with batteries in the extreme cold, which kills battery life (headlamp, air pump, etc)?
Put them in your jacket
I know a lot of your audience is in the US, so just in case you didn't know: The product availability from Decathlon in the United States is entirely different from what's in Canada. Decathlon US just announced downsizing to only Hiking, camp, and cycling products. Over the past 3-5 years Decathlon US has also struggled to keep stock of things other than the puffy jackets lol. As far as I know, Decathlon CA (I'm super jealous btw) doesn't ship down here to the states.
Screaming barfies!! 😂 I am glad to hear others get thatNoah.
The vet came out to work on my horse's hoof in the winter. His hands were bare...mine were covered . Guess who got the screaming baries and about passed out.... not the vet. He probably thought the blood bothered me..naah.
Nothin like carrying a Ferrari on your back! At least you’re a little lighter!
Cooze?!
Justin where did you get your metallic wind screen from?
It comes with the whisperlite. Also available separately on MSR’s website. If you live anywhere that has a used outdoors equipment reseller, they usually have a stack of those for cheap.
@@jpriddle cool! Thank you for that!
The only time I've done camping in weather like that was Cold Weather Medicine training in the Navy while I was stationed with the Marine Corps. 10,000 foot elevation and -10 - -20f the full week. The fact that you would willingly do it is a bit disturbing.....
Your power bank does NOT have 10,000 miliamps. It has 10,000 miliamp-HOURS. Power output vs capacity, two completely different units expressing completely different properties. It's like saying that your car has a top speed of 20 pints. Also, without giving the voltage, this number means nothing and if you really want to give proper information, you should use the Wh or mWh value. Assuming 5 volts, the power bank has a very decent 50 Wh or energy capacity.
Screw me sideways Sally, what should have you 2nd guessing is the price of that tent. Really? 1400 dollars. That's insane... damn near insulting. Thanks for the share, dude. What's that white stuff on the ground? 👴
Yeah that brand of tents is for mountaineers. They are not worth the money
Justin. Dude I love love love your videos every one of them but I can’t tell you how much I hate your metric system you constantly refer to.
Yeah Justin how dare you use a system used by 95% of the World…
Well he’s Canadian lol
@@JasonSnailer ya I put that together.
Metric system is the most universally used system. And is far superior.
@@Fizzyfuzzybignbuzzy I use units plus app on iPhone for conversions
Looked at your packwizard list...and the links for your decathlon fleece camp cloths don't work...fyi
But great video! ...need more gear for winter camping lol
