    DO NOT take the woman's advice halfway in the video. Do not call people during an active shooting. They might be hiding and you could ring their phone and get them killed.

      @97privat 6 months ago +62

      I do not agree. As a policeman and long working dispatcher myself with "good training" (Since in germany you study 3 years for the police) i dont see much that she did wrong. She asked for the location first. In case someone hangs up she knows where to send them. The caller explained right away whats happening and theres no need for further questions. Maybe a more precise location. The next best questions is what she asked right away. What is he wearing or what does he look like. Thats basically all you need. And at that point they already got interrupted and the caller wasnt replying anymore. Theres nothing really more she could've done, except to repeatetly ask again where he is and what hes wearing. I can understand her asking if hes really shooting, in disbelief. That doesnt help, but doesnt bother either.
      Let me tell you some facts you might havent considered.
      - Most calls are standardized, so the dispatcher has strict questions he needs to ask. He cant just change protocoll and it might not be easy to leave questions empty. Thats why they might repeat seemingly useless questions before other ones.
      - If you work all day at dispatch youll get used to it. If someone is in urgent need it might be his first time in his life but the dispatcher is dealing with it all the time. At some point youre just simply emotionless with monotone voice. Which is good because you can think more clearly. Only rare unique occurences might get you emotional.
      - Most of the time when people are calling because something really crazy is happening (like in this case a shoot out) are either false alarms, drunk people or mentaly ill. So its normal to have some sort of disbelief and ask repeatetly to make sure the guy is trustworthy and isnt some sort of confused
      - Many times people get upset because people in urgend need getting asked a shitload of questions that dont seem to be necesary in this situation. It happens to me a lot, that people get upset. They simply dont understand that you can ask questions to get a better picture AND send someone during the same time already and just use the remaining time rationally while otherwise just waiting.
      Hope this helped. Ask me anything if you want.

      Also everyone should switch their phones to vibrate by default. If people are worried about missing calls, then bear in mind that smart watches are great for this: they vibrate during a call and you can take calls from your wrist. Sometimes you can even activate emergency services with a couple of taps, and if you collapse they have fall detection - will alert emergency services.
      Almaybe another useful thing to carry around is maybe a small case of ear pods, galaxy buds, or whatever equivalents (something Bluetooth with a built in microphone)? They can easily fit in your breast pocket. If you are hiding and need to take a call, even from your wrist, the ear buds can pair up to the phone or smartwatch. Then you can whisper, and get maximum privacy of audio feedback whilst hiding.

    The 1st 911 dispatcher was awful.
    One time in 2014 I had to give my boyfriend CPR and the 911 operator kept trying to make me talk to her and I finally just and just laid the phone down beside me and kept the call open kept saying please hurry because I already told her he overdosed and described the situation, gave her the address, and I couldn’t talk to her and give him air and compressions all at once. She wasn’t even guiding me. I still have PTSD about how that call was handled. He made it. It took them 10 minutes to get there and the doctor told me because I kept his heart beating and gave him air it prevented him from having brain damage. Been a long road since and he’s got 1 1/2 years sober. I’ve had to call 911 a lot. I have a lot of respect for these departments but more often than not I hear 911 dispatchers making the situation harder or not helping. I’ve actually dealt with CPR for him twice and both times in two different homes so different 911 departments did not help over the phone. Once help arrived the paramedics were amazing. But another thing that bothered me was both times the cops were trying to take me away into another room to talk and I couldn’t see if he was ok and I wasn’t in their way at all and just wanted to see him in case it was the last time. 911 and police response all needs better training.
    Prayers for these victims. I can’t even imagine the level of trauma they are going through after experiencing an active shooter. Sending prayers.

    • @lenonkitchens7727
      @lenonkitchens7727 7 months ago +64

      I mean, you can't tell for sure that a gun is loaded by looking at it, so they had no way of knowing that. Unfortunately, every other reply to this is inaccurate. This is an education issue. I heard at least 3 times in this video that people thought it was a bb gun, or a toy gun. Not being able to identify a toy from the real thing is the underlying problem. In other words, I don't think most of them weren't aware, I just think they're too sheltered and uneducated to identify the real thing.
      Also, not allowing trained people to carry concealed in the store is part of the problem. My state has what's called an enhanced concealed carry license. Getting one requires a certain amount of state sanctioned training with a firearm, and a background check. I have said license, and I carry everywhere. I don't care what signs they have up. If I get caught it's a misdemeanor trespassing charge. That's a small price to pay to be able to protect my family and other people in a situation like this. If there were more trained people carrying in this store, there's a chance that no one, or at least fewer people, would have been hurt.

      Yeah but I’m sure their quality of life is painful and expensive. They’re not living like they were. Shot 7 times? That person will probably have so many operations trying to repair the damage. Plus the cost of those operations. May not be able to dance at weddings, lift up their kids, work, may not be able to walk. Same with the one shot in the head. People forget they may have survived but still had their lives taken from them. It’s just really sad looking into the U.S. and not see how more guns and more powerful guns aren’t defending anyone. And if everyone carried a gun and someone started shooting it would be a blood bath. They wouldn’t know who to shoot with everyone with their guns out. How people think that’s a solution is crazy. And ppl who keep them for defense, well so many of them get in fights with people and pull out their gun in the heat of the moment and kill their spouse, parent, neighbor, friend, relative, the guy who cut you off in traffic, etc. The cries of these people are heartbreaking. The gun laws get looser, this mentally ill person was able to buy one. And not a hunting rifle or hand gun. Why are they not enough? Who needs AR’s for defense? I’m so happy to live in a free country where the kids don’t have gun drills, can walk anywhere, shop anywhere and not be afraid of getting shot. Knowing my friends who are maybe in a bad breakup won’t just get shot. Yes there’s still bad things that happen, but not like this. This is insanity. If the forefathers could see these guns compared to the muskets they had? They’d of ripped up that second amendment that people choose to read only parts of. Where’s the strong regulation they wrote about? It says nothing about allowed to have for personal use. “A well regulated militia” is not what’s going on. Australia had one mass shooting and that was enough. Peoples lives were more important. People might buy with good intention, but the number of those people killed with their own guns is not unusual. There are already police, and they get too comfortable shooting people too. Unfortunately there are Americans who just care about “MY rights, MY guns, MY freedom above everything else”. The sense of community only goes to people who think like them. Something is really broken. The propaganda is so easy to see when your on the outside. Somehow it means your not free if you can’t own the deadliest weapons. Military grade ammo. They married the two and people bought it. I’m sure it’s not the majority but they make it seem like it is. And sure somebody can have a knife, but you can’t kill dozens of people in 2 minutes 30 feet away. This isn’t a normal/healthy way to live. Didn’t mean to go off but its crazy to me anyone can walk around with something that kills peoples loved ones, just can end their lives by just moving a finger is insanity. 😢

      @97privat 6 months ago +12

      @@xjustin21 How are you sure units weren't dispatched at all during this time frame? 911 calls are only a fraction of what is actually going on behind a police/911 desk. Shooter description and location is the number one detail that needs to be relayed.

We've been talking about it, arguing , for 20 yrs and nothing has changed. If we can't agree on the cause, we can't agree on a solution. Even for our childrens sake, we aren't willing to change.

      "Leniency toward violent crime?" Most of these people end up offing themselves. How can you even "go hard" on that when there's nothing left to go hard on?? 🤔
      It's just an excuse for criminals working within the system to say we need to 'go hard' on crime so they can claim everything's a crime and take advantage of innocent people even harder while claiming they're 'going hard' on crime. I remember a story about some corrupt local judges with Italian names living in yachts, mansions and vacation homes who tried to pull something like that then claimed they were "helping" people while clearly only helping themselves at their victim's expense. 🙄👌
