      Thanks Gary. Well, i do a bit of both. On this video in particular i'm trying something new. Only shots with very little instructional talk if any. Many years ago when I did instructional videos are tutorial videos on air guns people seemed uninterested. Now it seems to be gaining favor among viewers. But I try to do a bit of both just to keep my channel somewhat diverse. Thanks for watching sir

      I was actually talking to someone about making frangible ammo. The material is readily available. You know how it is, trying to get an idea off the ground is usually the hardest part. Just hard to get people to do the work for you when you have an idea like frangible ammo. Watch out somebody might read this and copy my idea lol
      And yes I can definitely share FPE numbers at the Target when I give the distance. I've often thought about putting that information up and will do it on part two of this video. Thanks so much for the input brother

    Hi Cedric, a few questions about shooting .17 slugs...
    First question is what barrel are you using and what is the true diameter of the bore? These are different than .177 pellet bore? These barrels are not choked, like the way we see pellet barrels choked?
    I assume that these little pills have a real great ballistic coefficient? How do these little pills buck the wind? I notice the much shorter shots but can they go the distance?
    Given a better ballistic coefficient and the small size of these pills, and add to the fact that they are being shot at shorter distances,,, might we have the makings of true and accurate supersonic air rifle fodder?
    Given such a small bore and the heavier slug, what trick do you utilize to avoid valve lock? What type of tricks are being done to valve a AF when shooting slugs? Hammer weight and spring?
    How the heck do you cast a lil' .17 slugs? Must take alot of care and patience to cast such a tiny bugger. Would swage be a better way to go at it?
    I am thinking at supersonic short distances that these no doubt will smoke pests and varmints with authority that you don't see in the bigger slower bores!

    • @Tofazfou
      @Tofazfou  3 года назад

      All great questions and comments! First, the barrel is simply a green mountain .172 caliber barrel. I have a video on this gun being built and I explained what barrel and parts are in the gun. The exact very barrels that are used for 17 HMR rimfire rounds. It is a rimfire barrel and not an airgun barrel. Therefore, the bores diameter is .172 and not .177. one is a powder burner caliber one the other is airgun. As far as tricks for the valve, it is 100% custom by Doug Noble. Nothing in the valve or the valve body is Air force. There are secrets in that valve that I won't discuss because it's Doug's project. I am using a custom hammer weight and heavier spring so I can tell you that. I also have a carbon fiber bottle on the gun for higher fill pressures. So I do fill my gun to 4,000 PSI and that allows me 25 shots at basically 1100 feet per second average. And yes this gun does go supersonic for quite a few shots. If I fill it to 4,500 PSI and turn the power wheel up to about 6 it will easily crack 1,250 ft per second with a 24.5 grain bullet. The guns peak output is 101 foot pounds with a 33 grain round nose slug. And yes it is my most difficult caliber to cast because the bullets are so tiny that is hard keeping the mold hot. But there are tricks around that also. With the 172 caliber, the mold definitely has to stay hot during the entire casting process. If the bullets are not uniform when casting the gun will not shoot accurately at all and some bullets will oscillate. The 172 caliber is not for everyone and it certainly is not for people that do not cast their own slugs because bullets are not readily available. I do have some swage bullets from Varmint Knockers even though he does not openly swage that caliber for retail because it is difficult, but the rounds are gorgeous. And accurate too!. And they're in boat tail. Check out some of my other videos showing the slugs.

      I have it at .128 and the flat point might be even higher than that by a couple of numbers because it is actually half an inch long or shall I say, half an inch tall. That's pretty long for a 172 cal bullet
