    Thanks to you, I have three African violet plants blooming (optimara little moonstone, jolly orchid and porcelain doll). I’m quite smitten. ☺️ Thank you for all your generosity in supporting us newbies. Your plants are so beautiful and happy; love seeing them all continuing to thrive under your good care. Hope you enjoyed your summer. 🌸💖

      Oh, I am so glad! Two years ago I was a newbie, too! And still learning! Happy to share what I’ve learned with fellow AV growers!🌸💕

      Thank you! Not an easy grower, for sure! Got her last year and it is only now that she seems to have finally acclimated to my growing environment. I noticed that Pearl Joy, another leaf chimera, behaved the same way, so they might be just slower growers due to less chlorophyll in the foliage, than the regular ones.

      Thank you! In the summer, the temperature can go all the way to 90F/33C, sometimes even higher - not without losses, just lost my Blackberry Jam plant. I use LED shop lights on this stand - 5,000K/4,100LM. I have a video about all of my light setups, in case you'd like to check it out: ruclips.net/video/axTu2oq2Uy4/видео.html.

    Hi. September 7th ,2022. Just looking thru some videos again. Where do you get Happy Harold?. I think my aunt had this one in the nineties.???? Is it mosaic leaf pattern or something else. TL variegation didn't come out until later right? Do you find it easy to lay down leaves for new plants? It it better the leaves have some green as compared to the more white variegated leaves used. (Has something to do with better photosynthesis/ more green exhibits more photosynthesis ability making more heathy plant tissue creating healthier new plants.). Sound like a video or Something like that. You can use that.
    My collection is getting bigger every other week. It didn't help to have our largest nursery here get a huge fall shipment of AV. They didn't know this but some of the ones I have been researching are ....the K Hybrid for example- -- they had 5 of hers. What a find.
    Also several Russian/Ukrainian hybrid where tucked around at one of there other locations. A little driving uncovered these "treasure chest"------- yes that is a AV. I have it on a future wish list. Happy growing. PS I am using a new fertilizer for me called Espoma Organic African violets plant food.
    As a beginner the easy measuring,mixing no real mess(not smelly) is great. It's ratio is 1 3 1 which allows for use if I want every time I water. Some of my findings say use plain water every three to fourth time is beneficial to not build up certain harmful nutrients ex salts(urea). Right? Ok---- Catch your new content/ later. Joseph PPS.....
    You might already know or heard of this.
    After a lengthy search I came across Dimetria Gardens I hope I have this spelled correctly. Well anyway, what a source. Translated to English with my phone help,,and I think I almost drained its charge looking at all the AV types, and hybrids. Going back soon. Bye/goodnight.

      I grew my Happy Harold from leaves, purchased from Tropical World Nursery. The AVSA description doesn't specify the variegation type on it, it just says "variegated, plan", for foliage. It must be the TL variegation though, according to the Annapolis Valley African Violet Society's 'Variegated Foliage in African Violets' fact sheet. In this fact sheet, it is explained that Tommie Lou variegation was introduced in 1957, and after 11-year attempts of reproducing it, Harold Reinhardt, Happy Harold's hybridizer, and LLG, were able to reproduce the TL variegation in their own hybrids, Happy Harold being one of them. It's dated 1971. K's hybrids do well for me, great choice! Not sure about 1-3-1 fertilizer for AVs, maybe only for a short while, while they are in the active blooming phase, when they need more Phosphorus, otherwise they prefer more balanced fertilizers, I found, with approximately equal proportions of N-P-K. Happy growing!

    What lighting do you use in this display? and what's the distance from light to plant? Thanks, Nora "Violet Enthusiast!"

      This one is a 4 ft LED shop light by Sunco Lighting 5000K Daylight / 4100 LM, I got a 4-pack on Amazon a while ago. I showed it in my Stands and Lights video: ruclips.net/video/axTu2oq2Uy4/видео.html. The distance between the lights and the top of the plants is about 13 inches.

    I love all your videos and have learned so much by watching them. I'm curious if you tried the Barrina lights you mentioned awhile back and if you liked them. Also, I noticed that you linked the 'yellow' version of these lights. Would the 'yellow' one be preferred over the 'white' version? I have a 2 foot stand that sits in the corner of my room which doesn't get any direct window light.

      My Barrina lights are still boxed up - we are moving again soon, I am waiting to put them to work in our new home in fall. I think I got the white version - just relinked to the white ones in the description, thank you for catching this! I prefer white light - a personal preference, it renders the true color of the blooms, in my eyes. I wonder if anyone tried the yellow version, and if anyone knows the difference between the two, in tech specs. I know usually the color temperature on the yellow-casting lights is lower, not sure if that's the case with Barrina, so curious to find out!

      @@grayturtleviolets Thank you for the reply! I just finished setting up my plant shelf with a set of the white lights. Shelf looks very nice though I will have to think of something to control the cords a little more. I'm hoping that I will notice a difference in about a month on the health of my plants. I don't blame you on waiting to set up lights after the move. It did take me a little bit of time and patience to set up my shelf and lights.

    • @grayturtleviolets
      @grayturtleviolets  3 года назад +1

      I'd give it time to see if the blue fantasy shows when the plant matures, sometimes it happens in 2nd or 3rd blooming cycle. This variety bloomed true for me right away, but I have another Cajun's - Cajun's Fascinating Fury, this one had no fantasy in the first two cycles, and then the fantasy appeared in the 3rd one, I show it at the end of this video.
