  • The Navy Lark was a BBC radio comedy written by Laurie Wyman and George Evans about the crew of The Royal Navy frigate HMS Troutbridge and their mis-adventures. The show was first aired on March 29th, 1959, and ran for fifteen series until 1976 making it one of the second longest running radio programme the BBC has made. There was a spin-off film version of The Navy Lark in 1959. Please find series two split into three weeks as it so huge at 27 episodes. Unfortunately, episodes 7 & 20 have gone AWOL!     I remember this like it was yesterday. And I was 10 in 1960. Thank you for finding and posting this. I used to have lots of tapes and cassettes with comedies but sadly they have all been chewed up or lost in moves. Thank you again. Made an old man smile again.

    Wreckers were a real thing. They would shine a light on rocky headlands to fool ships into thinking its a lighthouse and thus ships would be wrecked on the real rocks. The smugglers would then take anything of value from the wreck, often killing anyone on board.
