They do. The original Kojiroh died, that's his sister there fighting. Kojiroh and Washizuka were comrades and buddies. The Shinsengumi is the police force in Japan at that time. Also, his sister is pretending to be a man to maintain morale, they probably didn't know yet that the original Kojiroh was murdered by a renegade of their ranks.

No caso essa é a Kaori Sanada irmã do Kojiroh, já que o Kojiroh foi assassinado no primeiro game e sua irmã se disfarçou dele no segundo game para descobrir o assassino dele.
