  • There's a period in Scottish history that had a profound effect, not only on Scotland but on the whole world!
    This period is called the Scottish Enlightenment, and it really was Scotland’s ‘Golden Era’.
    The Scottish Enlightenment ran for about 100 years from the mid 1700s through to the middle/end of the 1800s.
    Personally, I feel it is the most important period in Scotland’s long history, and has defined, for many people, what Scotland and ‘Scottishness’ truly means.
    Watch this video and learn how Scotland helped invent our modern world!

    I have a Scottish Mother. It's so relaxing to hear a Scottish accent that's not screaming whilst hitting me with a shoe.

      Merci, Ginette. Tranent était autrefois une ville minière importante, et le charbon y a été exploité pour la première fois au XIIIe siècle par les moines de l'abbaye de Newbattle. Vous devriez venir le visiter! Gordon

      It's hard to work that out, Lisa, and it may have varied over the country. I suspect, at least initially, not. But education for all did eventually arrive. Kind regards, Gordon

    It seems to be that Scottish enlightenment goes hand and hand with freemasonry of the Scottish rite

    • @gordonsscotland8441
      @gordonsscotland8441  Год назад

      Masonic Lodges predate the Enlightenment, with the first Scottish Lodge being established in Edinburgh in 1599, but no doubt many figures of the Enlightenment period may also have been freemasons. Kind regards, Gordon

      Robert Bruce was excumicated by the pope and invited the Knights Templar to cone to Scotland after the pope and king of France outlawed the order, so might be true as the Masons and Templares go hand in hand ❤
