The commitment down the hill is insane too, to keep the fronts gripped up while the track is falling away from you takes such a light touch. @markhill9275 I remember Alan Moffat (if I recall) saying that they would have a lunch box in the car with some food, strapped into a bench seat That is pretty frightening paired with drum brakes😬
Youlden had trouble getting into top gear on Mountain Straight for more than a second, which also hurt his lap time. That would have cost him most of the time gap between the BT-62 and the AMG.
I used to work in Bathurst, I had a company car, I would do many, many laps of the circuit at small hours of the morning. The camera angle does not represent just how steep the dipper section is, (the first turns after the top section before the long run down the hill) and how fast the walls come at you.

Far from perfect. “Used every inch” would mean you see the car track out all the way to the other edge of the track on corner exit. He doesn’t do that. He left plenty of time on the table by not using every inch. Good lap, and how could a new lap record not be, but definitely not perfect.
@@ClaytonMacleod He ran literally every single corner from as far outside he could get to as close to the apex as he could get and held speed everywhere. This lap was perfect. Could you physically go quicker? Yeah, maybe like a few hundredths at best. Hardly "plenty of time".
@@ClaytonMacleodSometimes the best line doesn't go physically all the way out. The only time I see him not use the very outside of the track is 0:31, and that's because using that line loses too much speed mid-corner. For all intents and purposes, he used every inch
@@Simoran I’ve raced a long time. I know what is and isn’t a fast line. I know when and where it matters. It matters here. And he doesn’t track out very often here, and he’s slower because of it. It is very, very rare that “not tracking out” isn’t detrimental to lap time. You almost always throw away lap time if you do not track out. If you don’t track out, that is, if you are capable of not being required to track out, you didn’t take the corner as fast as you could have. That’s just how it works. If you can physically turn the wheel and have the car turn more than is required to track out to the other edge of the track, you didn’t take as much speed through the corner as you could have. “Using every inch” literally means using every inch. If you didn’t barely manage to keep it on track you did not use every inch. He’s often in the middle of the track on corner exit. That means by definition he wasn’t going as fast as possible. And that also by definition means the lap was not perfect. The fastest line is the straightest line, unless the subsequent corner sets you up to exit onto a long straight. There are multiple instances here where he does not use the straightest/fastest line. Period.

Then there is the car, going down to the tirecompound, this rubber, grown by a rubber-farmer is Brazil takign extra car to get the juiciest perlf of rubber to get the best quality, will cut off a millionth of a second in corner 3 on Mount Panorama, and like that every fractino of a second, a million things happens, that are the hight of human engineering and when you see it on display at such a sympohony of engineering, sportmantship, this is humanity at it's best, globally for decades, people have striven to get at the best of their game, to build the highest quality product, to train the hardest, to get this once car around the mountain a seconde faster than the last, and aver all these decades, thousands of souls, energy sacrificied to let us now witness this display in 4K on a TV that makes the image look better than reality itself, live across the world, via satelites, built by the best and brightest of our universities, but they also driving across roads build by the best of the best and cars built by the best... Just a flash or a second is enough for your soul to scream out for more as this brilliance has taken literally decades to achieve, Jules Gounon achieved a lap, previously thought impossible, but decades of human strive, engineer, friendship and cooparation have ultimately come to this, decades of motorsport have worked to bring human ingenuity in engineering, building ( the racetrack and all it's amernities, up to and including the lodgings making and events like this possible ) have all culmniated in this amazing display of human perfection that each soul that witnesses it, understands on a deep level, there is incredible beauty in a display like this, a human driven to perfection by years of diet and training, provided by the best tooling humen engineering can bring to bear, where human engineering is driven to and extreme degree, every person working on building this car, tkaing years of dedication to become the best in their craft furthering and improving our own lives with inventions like ABS, tractino control etc...
But it goes beyond that car, look at the person who swept his corner of the track that morning, thing about the hundreds of marchals and officials who all worked to bring the track to the optimum of perfection humanity can provide.
And when you see that kind of perfection come together in a brilliant display of the very best humanity can do, and it happens and humanity rejoices, no matter how you feel about cars, your heart leapt when you saw the car come across the line and set a new lap record... even if you knew the outcome in adcane ( why else did you click the link? ), this incredible display of human engineering, moves your sould to the deepest parts of your heart...
And it releases a joy you can get nowhere else, when you see humanity at it's finest, every gear working together to let this man display his prowess in how he can challenge the laws of physics and eexperience perfection....
And the joy of even just witnessing that is incredible...
And you just enjoyed that, now take a breath, and tomorrow, do your job again to the best of your ability, no matter what you do, you might be the burgerflipper that feeds the guy that builds the bolt that holds the car together in the final corner, instead of crashing.... we've got to make this beast go faster across the mountain! Let's go! We can do better!
1:56! That sound coming down Conrod was amazing ❤
Isn't really Conrod anymore....more like a bent conrod.
Just from watching it you could already tell the attitude of the car looked really fast and planted. 🤯 I need this extreme added to racing games and sims please. What a beast. Kinda feels like GT3’s version of an Evo 919 😅
0:54 What a splendid accuracy, it's so scary!
Only an AMG can sound this beautiful!!
AMG GT3 is thee most aesthetically pleasing car ever made.
Fastest ever record at Mount Panorama is 1:48.8 by Jenson Button in the Vodafone Formula 1 in 2011, videos can be found of the official event that took place right here on youtube, and the official lap
1:06 god those down shifts sound insane
Esse carro continua sendo um dos GT mais absurdo q já teve, mesmo depois de muito tempo des da saída do SLS, não vejo a hora deles fazer o AMG GT63 GT3❤🔥🔥🔥
Even looks more excitig than V8LandBarges
Ahhhh, no commentary, simply music to my ears.
I'm assuming this couldn't be very easy to do, the audio is fantastic.
Cool video, excellent lap! I didn't realize the GT3 specification allowed for active aero. You can see the rear wing change pitch on braking (adds pitch) in the shots toward the end of the lap. The car does sound amazing.
GT3 does not allow for active aero. This is a GT3 car which has been modified outside of what the regulations allow (such as a DRS rear wing from the old DTM cars) for a special demo run with no official status.
That look effortless!!!! Not a twitch or anything, outstanding!!!
that's commitment.... the team, car, driver, all at their best.... it's a risky track to go that hard. must've been good track temps and conditions too coz that run looked flawless.
Finally a wing bigger than my love for GT3 cars
I remember a time when it took absolute balls of steel to run through 'The Chase' without lifting or braking. Now it seems to be the norm which just illustrates how far vehicle handling and grip and have advanced in the past few decades...
Now post the entire lap from inside the car, then you will get a thumbs up from me
The official Mercedes Benz motor sports RUclips channel posted the onboard from this lap
It sounds like a NASCAR Cup car.
