Many props to Gary Talley for his efforts in keeping the Box Tops legacy alive. No one can replace Alex, but the Box Tops live!
Can NOT replace Alex Chilton. I had the pleasure of seeing the Box Tops in Albany, NY ..WITH Alex as lead a year or so before he died. Great show. He was one of a kind.
I see the comments here that this is "not the Boxtops." Well. It's as close as you're going to get. Gary Talley and Bill Cunningham were there with Alex Chilton in the beginning and they've simply decided to continue on. The standard is different, but a couple of guys who still enjoy playing the music and putting on a show, and are original band members have my respect. Now with CCR...that's a different ordeal altogether. Doug and Stu screwed Fogerty and are simply in it because of the CCR name and probably a decent pay check. I don't particularly care for that. The remaining Box Tops are not making loads of cash and are not glamorous, and most people dont remember who they are unless you're very specific. And yet they keep at it. Good for them.
Difference is Doug & Stu hired a great vocalist, Gary Talley is not close vocally nor does he have any stage presence. They need to help him out with a lead vocalist.
@@tw364 Yeah, but he's done alright. The Boxtops aren't on the same level as CCR. The Hollies got a new lead singer after Allan Clarke retired but they are a big act in Britain as well. The Gary and Bill are just trying to keep it going, and I think are doing ok with what they've got. CCR seriously tours and such, Boxtops not so much. They do some shows here and there and not worth hiring another guy to sing.
It is like the Rolling Stones being without Mick Jagger! They are not the boxtops!
Right, would you rather they just go away?
More Rhythm Guitar please---Good grief!!!
Yeah tell me about it! Jeez Louise you can barely hear the iconic electric sitar and B3.
What’s better than a Fender Jazz bass and an Ampeg rig!
The overall sound balance has issues though.
Nice
It's just not the same without Alex. Sorry. It's like Credence Clearwater Revival without John Forgery.
True. Alex had a tremendous voice for an 18 year old and John Fogerty had a tremendous voice for a 24 year old
This is a problem I've seen with a number of older Classic Rock bands. They fail to find a new singer and utilize an existing member of the band. Alex had such charisma, stage presence, and a incredible voice. The band would be better to have Gary Talley concentrate on lead guitar and background vocals, and find a younger lead singer as the songs don't work with his lead vocals.
No Alex Chilton no box tops
Any originals here?
Cover band
someone tell that rhythmn guitarist he is WELL too loud........that or....shoot the soundman....;)
Should have turned down Rythum guitar. Drowning out everyone else
Just another tribute band, and not a good one at that
Not quite the original one. Good try there though.
My 6 Australian Shepherds could do a far, far better job.
