In 1992, the era of Sound Garden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam, (all great bands FWIW) I never realized until now why Maceo had to explain to the crowd what "Happy Music" was! In 1992 it was being squelched out of pop music by alternative angst! Thank you Maceo for this lesson today, I have the widest grin possible every time this song plays, my neckbone moves.
Oh the drums, the drums. Pulls every drummer I know right up, me included and ... stop, look, listen .......holy god! (I think the bar of 5/4 isn't a mistake, it is a, "Now I've got your attention. Don't pretend I haven't". And he has.)
Macio says "now me and the drummer check it out"haha his solo going up chromatically blows my mind. Everytime around you think hes done he goes higher. Nobody does that. Unreal
I remember buying this album when it first came out - I was blown away!! I have put a live video cut of this by 'Maceo and Roots Reviisited' from a 1992 German TV show on my channel bobfunk11
Alihan Yildirim After i heard this, I emailed the drummer “Kenwood Dennard” and had some lessons with him at Berklee College of Music where he taught. Not just amazingly talented, but very cool and down to earth
Actually, you learnes the bass grooves from the bass player. I've seen this band 3 times, and they use electric bass and organ/clavinet/rhodes/draw bar
maybe, just maybe... Mr. George Clinton in the late 80s / early 90s...but its rare, I've been there as a white guy and its not always like shake everything you got but they accepted me after a while....

i cannot believe that the bass line is Larry Goldings' lefthand. he must have a split brain to be able to that.

Is the live video available somewhere? I have seen parts of it in some mix of a drum cover but I cannot find the mere live vid...
@seekay41 It could be worse, Larry could have played the bassline on the pedals...
