Bobby Skinner uses All-22 Coaches Film to break down the game of Florida offensive lineman O'Cyrus Torrence for the 2023 Draft. #NFLDraft #DawandJones #OhioState
This analysis of his footwork is an excellent detailed breakdown of his flaws. However, he has such a size and strength advantage over nearly everyone that I still wonder what percentage of NFL guys can even take advantage of it consistently. Even with his footwork issues, he gets his hands on you and it’s over. And even when he’s out of position, a defender still has issues getting by him because he’s a mountain and has those long arms to reach you and those strong hands.
yeah I agree with everything you pointed out and I feel like he killed it at the college/uni level but he might have to share some time in the NFL cause a few of his errors/flaws will get eaten alive by NFL caliber players. They are much faster, experience, trained, smarter than some of the comp he faced. Even the bottom of NFL talent will be tough.
have you seen how bad teams need O-LINE he is a day one just by size and strength alone ( both cannot be coached) draft him day one, couch him up, great diet, play him at guard in year one, move him to tackle in year two by year 3 in, he will look like a H.O.F. candidate
No Jim, it his hands it is compensating for this feet you can see it. He get's hands on you the defender can't get them off he is so strong. He will do well in the NFL. I don't know if he will be first ballot hall a farmer but his hand strength can compensate for this foot work.
Every time I see a film on OT Paris Johnson, what I notice the most is how Ohio State RT Dawan Jones totally dominates and bullies anyone in front of him. Furthermore, 6'-8" 375lb. Dawan Jones did not allow a single sack, or pressure, against his QB. Paris Johnson is great, but he can get pushed back...never the case with Dawan Jones. He has the biggest wingspan of any player in NFL history and the strength to rock anyone. Bears GM Poles can trade down to around the 22nd-25th pick, acquire additional draft picks, and still draft a future pro-bowl Right Tackle for the Bears.
We have t o take into consideration in the NFL and now in College these QBs are an investment. If you team doesnt have a top "investment" one the sna...HOLDING will be called holding.
I can see him being a real project. Fast long guys in the nfl like montez sweat are going to rip those high arms down and spin him around like a turnstyle. If your team drafts him it will be a bumpy ride for a few years. He will shut some guys down all game but then other games some guys will be running by him every play.
I think holding is usually called when you get your hands outside the shoulders. Or also when the defender is turning to run away from you and you grab and pull them back. Usually in the trenches if you keep your hands inside the shoulders it's legal even if you're holding onto the jersey.
bs. MIchgian quaterback destory them. cj stroud was scoreless in the second half this year. not his fault. he had all day to throw. thanks to dwand jones.
Exactly and the guy is 6'7 350 so his play is not going to look like your NORMAL 6'4 320 O LINE body movement and play....... THINK ABOUT THIS HE ALLOWED 0 SACKS WITH BAD TECHNIQUE THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES some guys has great techniques and still get beat...... 4 a O Lineman I will take a a 6'7 athletic and Powerful Player who already allowed 0 sacks who is young and can b taught technique over a 6'4 player who has technique but still gets beat 4rm time to time an allows SACKS bcuz the guy with great techniques can't get better with more techniques he has to wait years or constantly weigh lift to try to gain power and learn to play using power........
We always say “Technique can be taught” which is true. But also most of the monster tackles don’t pan out because of years of muscle memory. To be frank he should’ve been a 4th round pick. The lack of pass rushing talent in the Big Ten was evident. I like how he improved from 2021 where Hutchinson was bull rushing him and the ot into the QB. But he’s not an NFL starter today. It all comes to development
He couldn’t have been drafted to a better place. Coach Callahan will make sure the technical side is sharp. I think he starts in a year or two. Maybe sooner w/ injuries.
He reminds my of Dallas' Eric Williams. Big kid, seen video of him playing basketball. I wouldn't draft him because I'm not comfortable with oline men, especially at his size and weight, who play basketball, they're setting their knees up for premature wear and tear.
I hear the commentator saying a lot of things about "what you don't want to be doing", but what you (really) don't want to do, is line up across from DAWAND JONES !
He's a project but his size and his length saves him from the things he's not good at yet. If he get the footwork, hands in the proper placement, lose weight and become faster this guy would be the Best Tackle in the NFL. Rushers will switch sides to avoid him.
Bucs released Donovan Smith to address cap and draft this guy for RT. He may go in the 2nd or 3rd but he is a fix for their weak OL. They plan to move Tristan Wirfs (All Pro) from RT to LT.
In the run game he gives his running backs holes the size of an ocean. Just run his way whoever he's locked on too is not tackling you or getting loose. I hope the bears get him in the second round or trade back with the 9th pick and pick this guy up.
Weight is major problem for me.. he needs to sit for a year and get accustomed to NFL weight room. Technique can easily be fixed by a good offensive line coach. If he can stay at around 335-340 pounds. Improve his technique a little and he would be a elite right tackle in a few years.
Orlando Pace physicallity without the technique it's possibly worth a flier on day 2 maybe even a 1rd rounder if teams are really thirsty for the upside
what ? have you seen how bad teams need O-LINE he is a day one just by size and strength alone ( both cannot be coached) draft him day one, couch him up, great diet, play him at guard in year one, move him to tackle in year two by year 3 in, he will look like a H.O.F. candidate

Love that. Dude is an actual monster!

Browns got a pretty good offensive line coach to get him together
The best

If the cake tastes great I don't care how you baked. Sorry for the analogy, he makes me want cake!

Cleveland Browns, baby!
Not sure if he’s a first I like him going to us with the 32nd pick Ngl 🖤💛

First guy slips, not snatch n grab. Watch his left foot
yep but not the 1st scouting report that don't mention those slips.

I think he’ll be fine. He’s actually one of my favorite OTs in this draft. Love Avila too at OG.
project ?
what are you talking about
if he is winning 60 percent of his bouts on passing down
and 80 percent on run plays......YOU GOT A WINNER
callahan got him
He won't sweat, Sweat, lol!
Steelers
1st round talent easily. I’ll be shocked if he isn’t taken in the 1st. Dude is that dominant
i just came to put my browns stamp on this
Browns in the 4th. Steal of the draft.
Too big for the NFL game speed IMO. He could be Mecki Becton part deuce, another big man made of glass who can't stay on the field.
Future San Francisco 49ers NNNNIIIINNNNEEEERRRRSSSS God Bless
Is he too tall to play guard?
Please eagles
HE WAY MORE ATHLETIC THEN ORLANDO BROWN” SO HE COULD PLAY OT TOO” IS HE WORTH A PICK TO THE GMEN TO PLAY GUARD🤔
year one - you play him at guard to get fit, strict diet,
year 2 - move him out to tackle
Isn’t snatch and grab holding?
Nah

Michigan destroyed him two years in a row
bs. MIchgian quaterback destory them. cj stroud was scoreless in the second half this year. not his fault. he had all day to throw. thanks to dwand jones.
I've seen Dawand Jones destroy a lot of players, and rub their faces in the dirt !...But I've NEVER seen ANYBODY "destroy" DAWAND JONES. (Not once).
Nonsense! I've watched the tap.
You can coach hands, feet and technique. What you can't coach is monstrous size & power. Cowboys, please take this player at 26 🙏🏼
Browns snag him in the 4th. STEAL!! 🫡
@@mrdee23 Yes, & now he has the best OL coach in the league to teach him proper footwork and hand placement. Good luck, Dawand.

Falcons please take him! I think he has franchise tackle potential

Not a single player beat Dawan Jones throughout the whole season...on the other side, Paris John gets pushed back on a regular basis.

DAWAND JONES is a BALLER !
Seems like he might get eaten up in the nfl by all the dominant edge guys.
Guard?
he finishes.
Not gonna make it inside with those sloppy feet. IOL can't be tripping over each other's feet and have success.
Orlando Pace physicallity without the technique it's possibly worth a flier on day 2 maybe even a 1rd rounder if teams are really thirsty for the upside
All depends on how teams feel about how serious he takes his craft to fix issues he has but I see a team in round 2 grabbing him
what ?
have you seen how bad teams need O-LINE
he is a day one just by size and strength alone ( both cannot be coached)
draft him day one, couch him up, great diet, play him at guard in year one, move him to tackle in year two
by year 3 in, he will look like a H.O.F. candidate
He could be our starting RT. Neal at guard. Now our line is full of 6'8 monsters. And he is an athlete as he plays basketball aswell.
Neal is too unbalanced to play tackle. He needs to be a guard where he doesnt have to move as far and quick.
That's right this guy need to play tackle a move neal to guard.
Seconds to that!
True. Dawand had multiple basketball scholarship offers. All he needs is coached up.
2nd RND Pick (Cardinals, Raiders, or Dolphins)
I’m hoping Falcons get him if we let McGary go to FA

@@johncapo2843 I think a team is going to draft him to plug and play at Tackle, he already has the feet due to his basketball background.
