I wasn't sure when I clicked on this video if I'd like the sound of hurdy gurdy with accordion, but this was great. A really excellent performance too!
The buzz you hear is from the hurdy gurdy's strings being stressed by faster wheel turning. Certain speeds cause different sounds to come from the "string organ" that the hurdy gurdy is and it's why I'm in love with that instrument!
Not quite, the buzz is created by a small loose bridge on one of the strings. Sudden accelerations of the wheel cause it to pivot up and snap back down extremely fast, casing the buzz. To create a rhythm the player places these accelerations at certain locations of each crank rotation. 4 evenly-spaced accelerations in a rotation would be a beat of 4, and so on.
@@daviddutschke1 bad news, not yet. That being said the reason is because my money is going towards grad school at the moment. Idealistically I'll be able to afford one within the first year I'm out, so... 2023-2024? 😅 I haven't given up on the idea of getting one though! 😁
I love this song, specifically the way you play it. I've listened to it played by a couple of other people and it's just not good enough. The hurdy-gurdy strikes an energy and an urgency into the song and all together it feels like an exciting adventure with edgy tension in a time long forgotten. As an aspiring video game designer, I just want to play a game where I can be in that adventure. Great job. I've been listening to this song here and there for a while now and it just speaks to me.
I have no idea how I found this performance so long ago, but I’ve been coming back to this particular video for quite some time now. Still love it at least as much as when I first found it,
wow! makes me wish I had a hurdy gurdy player nearby to do something like this with. unfortunately they are a bit thin on the ground in england. or maybe I should learn myself. Great video.
"Etienne", hum, Francais je suppose. Now this is playing vielle at another level, I just love it. To top it all the upper left corner is a delight for the eye haha ;0)
Always interesting that the full three-row box is popular in France, yet in Britain even Andy only plays a two-and-a-half, with most just playing a two!
Die Melodie ist zwar "SCOTTISH" aber es kommt mir sehr "Spanisch" vor, wie man so gut spielen kann. Ich bräuchte dafür ca. 400 Jahre - na denn, alles Gute den Spielleuten!!
I've been searching for the original version - I don't know if it was recorded by Andy Cutting solo, or with Blowzabella. I particularly like the transition starting around 2:30 - then it gets a little Hedningarna-ish around 3:00 - and then kicks it back in around 3:26

ralphyboy25 Heyhey, it's on the newest record by blowzabella "Strange news" which you can find on Spotify or buy directly from the band (it's a really, really good record)
Rick Krüger So I went ahead and purchased the Blowzabella version, which is a great song. But somehow I like this version slightly better. Maybe because it is a live performance and a little less polished.

ralphyboy25 Heyhey! I can totally understand you! My comment was more about the overall album, but i also like blowzabella's version of this one here. But especially the "bridge" part in this ist really nice :) My favourite tune from the album from blowzabella is "falco", which you can hear on soundcloud (just google for blowzabella falco ;) )...
The tune is called " Le Peitit Chien" (the little dog) and was composed by Andy Cutting (button accordion) of " Blowzabella". Loved to play this tune when I played at Bal Folk events over 20 years ago.
@@adamkent639 Yes, I know. Hadn't even noticed I slipped an additional "i" into it until you pointed it out. Funny, since my French isn't that bad otherwise.
Such a mesmerizing tune, the accordion and the hurdy gurdy work so well together. Love this 😃
im a Gurdy maker and this is the best combo of skill and tune selection....
The switch to the second melody is absolutely amazing. I've been coming back to this video over and over.
I wasn't sure when I clicked on this video if I'd like the sound of hurdy gurdy with accordion, but this was great. A really excellent performance too!
The way you combine the accordeon and the hurdy gurdy to play that song, simply I LOVE IT!
This buzzes my brain in such a good way. This how I feel when I can't describe how happy good music makes me feel.
Two of my favorite instruments played together. One of a kind video of a one of a kind combination.
no matter how many times I listen to this it never get old.
Bravo,
Mélodie, arrangements, tempo . . . tout est bon ! ! !

Comme dirait un homme avec de grandes oreilles : Fantastique !
The accordion solo is my favorite! Absolutely enchanting!!
This is one of my favorite pieces of music ever made.
Al escuchar, me da la sensación de estar en el bosque en una fogata, con amigos bebiendo y riendo, me gusta su interpretación.
Almost hypnotic rhythm....very nice!
Thanks everybody for your congrats !!

Looking forward to more great videos from you.... :)
As someone saving up money to purchase and learn the hurdy gurdy, this is super inspiring and enjoyable to binge over and over
@nelpolian so.. did you buy one? :)
