We definitely need reform of our electoral system. I agree with points made about first past the post and how it suppresses voices. I have reservations about OR for e.g. reasons of hung parks etc. but we need a shake up. My cross is going with Reform for reform!..

The Tories have brought this upon all of us with their tendency to treat their own manifesto promises as pure propaganda. Also it is worth noting that a Tory government, traditionally the friend of small businesses and independent traders turned Gordon Brown's IR35 wet dream into reality and by so doing alienated a large faction of their core support. The damage this has done cannot be underestimated and those people are NEVER coming back to a party who made the chancellor who thought that was a good idea party leader.

Both Labour and the Tory's could have got rid of the FPTP voting system at any time and neither party has chosen to do so, so neither can complain if one or the other gets a huge majority. Stop blaming Reform UK for ruining your chances under a system you wanted. Labour members have decided they want PR, but I wonder how interested the Labour party will be if they get a huge majority under FPTP. I live in a safe Labour seat, so my vote is worth nothing. It's all decided in the marginals. The only time my vote ever mattered was during the EU referendum.
Let's hope enough labour voters think the same, it's a safe seat so I don't need to vote. Because if there's a reform candidate in your constituency you can be certain that their supporters will vote and possibly give labour a shock.

If you gave Labour any majority, your kids can forget about buying a house due to the even higher taxes with zero incentives for the young generation. Uncontrolled immigration will send rents and mortgages way beyond affordable in comparison to the wages that will not grow. We can already see this increase as demand is much higher than the supply in real estate. Even if they start building new homes at a higher pace, if they fail to reduce immigration prices will never stabilise as you will need to build even more than that. Starmer does not know what the woman is, or he is afraid to say in public? Vote based on facts and your potential future not the state of your emotions towards Tories!

I have voted Conservative for 50 years. The Conservatives had a super majority and made an utter unchecked mess of it. We need a hybrid system of 50pct of the seats under the current system and 50pct under PR based on voting numbers.
Right now we need the 17m who voted for Brexit to vote Reform the only party to put the people of Britain first.
This n this alone shows parliament is about two parties only, the electoral system of first past the post is about keeping these two parties in power, they both ignore the wishes of the electorate, parliament after parliament, the only true democratic system is P/R, at least then every vote counts.

I read such a strange story today.
The number of seats a political party wins should always be reflected by the proportion of voters voting for the party nationwide. Anything else is very obviously undemocratic as it does not accurately reflect what the population has voted for.

Did have a national referendum in 2011 which people forget on the voting system and the people voted to keep the first past the post system, can't remember the exact result but was something like 70/30 in favour.

Voting is on a constituency basis so the constituency voters get who they want.
If votes were into a national total and MPs allocated according to party totals then I agree FPTP does not work.
While votes are on a constituency basis then PR is a non starter - and I am in favour of the constituency basis.
