As David Bercot often points out, how odd that so many churches turn to Romans to preach how to be saved instead of going to the very words of Jesus. I wonder how many Christians realize that the new testament letters are really just a commentary on the Gospels.

Yes the cornerstone is Jesus, the writings of the apostles and the prophets are like stones that come out from Jesus the cornerstone. We start with Jesus’ words, the interpret all the rest of the Bible through Him! The church today has it backwards. They interpret Jesus’ words through Paul!
      Ephesians 2:19-20
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

@@alyssamayle4088 that’s right, all scripture. And when we give a word to someone, it should be according to the needs of the person. Sometimes it’s not the thing that we consider “the gospel”.
What is interesting is that the Romans road gospel never penetrated my heart, hearing it repeatedly throughout my whole life.
What I needed to hear was that my sins were separating me from God. The moment I heard that, was when I got saved. It was when I heard that that I actually knew why Christ had to die for my sins.
I thought I knew God, but my conscience had been seared so bad that “Christ died for your sins” did not move me whatsoever. I could see the faults in everyone but myself. When someone made it personal and said “your sins are separating you from God” I knew it was true.

      Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
And they do not love the truth because they take pleasure in unrighteousness (sin).
      2 Thessalonians 2:10-12
and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I really love this teaching and your line-by-line method! One thing I'd like to raise is, that yes we are under the New Covenant, and so far I have been reaching the understanding after reading the Bible that the New Covenant is based on the Old Covenant. Therefore the Old Covenant is not abolished, but still valid, and is the path to our true relationship with God, and the path to being blessed by Him. Old Covenant is still the Word of God, and I'd like to obey it as much as I can. :)

What happened in my walk is that I discovered God's Laws as though I discovered treasures unexpectedly! I found out that keeping God's Commandments is true rest, liberation, and strength for me. Just as God led my journey so I could come across God's Words as though a thirsty deer comes to a stream of clear water, I must respect the way God works in other people's lives and not get in their way of having their amazing discoveries in Jesus Christ. If I tried to impose myself and not allow the Holy Spirit to do the work and Jesus be the Bridegroom, I would be gravely sinning. I have also seen how such approaches harm the soul by the mistakes of other ministers in God.

@@kittymeow1113 the true treasures of God are not found in the Mosiac Law - sorry but they are found in Jesus. The Mosiac Law was a SHADOW of Jesus - but the SUBSTANCE belongs to CHRIST! Paul calls those who obey the Old Testament commands as having a “weaker” faith. Why would you want a weak faith and follow a shadow when you can have the real thing? It’s amazing how many are being led away by this false teaching!
Besides, you cant even obey the Old Testament law! You can’t obey the sacrifices - there is no more temple! You cant keep the tithe - the tithe was FOOD to the Levitical preisthood! You can’t even keep the Sabbath anymore as that even revolves around the temple and you aren’t even allowed to light any sort of fire at all - including light bulbs. So I hope you don’t plan on using any lights on Saturdays!
I hope you come to your senses and don’t go any further into this deception. It leads to putting yourself back under the law, being severed from Christ, and ultimately denying the apostles ship of Paul or twisting many books in the Bible beyond recognition. I wanna ask you a question and say some things and hear what you think. Do you think salvation/eternal life is a gift or a reward? Is there by any chance Jesus implied that salvation and eternal life were things to be fought for, strived for? Could it be possible that eternal life is something we actually have to earn?
Even though I know what Paul says about us not being saved by works but by faith in places like Ephesians 2 and Romans 4 where He says that to him who does not work, but believes, God justifies the ungodly.
But even so, Jesus never said or implied that salvation was a gift in any way, but a reward. A gift is given without merit, regardless or what the recipient has or hasn't done or whether or not they deserve it. A reward however, is strictly based on merit. One can't do anything for a gift, but a reward is earned. In fact, to my understanding (and please correct me if I'm wrong), I believe Jesus implied that eternal life is a reward to be earned through merit, good works and obedience, perseverance, victories, overcoming, etc, not a gift that is freely given.
I wonder how much more intentional people would be about their walk with Christ if we had the mindset that eternal life was something to be EARNED and not given. I think people would be more intentional to fight for their salvation, endure, persevere and overcome. That people would see eternal life is a prize to be won and earned, not just freely given.
Of course I could be totally deceived and be advocating a works salvation which may or may not be true. I'm really curious as to what you think about this.
    Blessings!!

    • @abideintheWord
      @abideintheWord 2 года назад +6

Salvation is definitely not earned. That is a very dangerous and heretical mindset. Paul says it’s not of us -
      Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
      And that it’s a gift -
      Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
However, Jesus, Paul, Peter, and James all say we will be judged by our works. So how do we reconcile this? Well, we are initially saved by nothing we did to earn our salvation. However, once we are placed on the path or we are grafted into the tree we must abide in Jesus. This means we keep His commands (John 15:10). This is not earning salvation but rather I would say maintaining what was given as a gift. But I would humble yourself lest you be humbled friend. All our deeds stem from grace and faith so we cannot boast because all things were given to us by God. Grace is actually what makes us even work hard -
      1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

Also, it’s best to think of it as a relationship. We didn’t “earn” our place into a relationship with Him. But like any other relationship such as a marriage we are to work on it and maintain the relationship. So how much more so with God! But you could never say that you “earned” your relationship with your spouse.

@@CameraDiscipleJosh yes grace is not the ability to continue in sin. It’s actually quite the opposite - it’s the ability to be freed FROM sin and through grace God teaches us and directs us out of our sin -
      Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
But you see the reason we received grace was to do good works directed by God that we should walk in them. But Paul warns that we can receive the grace of God in vain for not working together with Him -
      2 Corinthians 6:1
Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.
      God bless.

Awesome teaching-Another question popped up: do you think walking in the flesh means anything we do in the world such as going to the gym, eating out, buying products…anything that is not God even in a general sense, when is it an idol- for example in order to lose weight or learn a new trade/skill you have to put a lot of effort into it- with the intention it takes a lot of focus , but not that you are not wanting to think of God 24 hours

    • @abideintheWord
      @abideintheWord 2 года назад +3

There are two senses of the meaning of walking in the flesh. In one sense on the meaning of flesh it talks about our bodies and the things we do in our bodies. However, we of course have to eat, do certain worldly things like work, a certain level of maintenance on our homes and bodies. As Paul says, certain worldly things are necessary and are not necessarily sin -
      1 Corinthians 7:28
But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that.
But any of these things such as your wife, children, food, etc can become an idol. That leads to spiritual death.
The type of walking in the flesh that is condemned is outlined in Galatians -
      Galatians 5:19-21
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But notice it says “and things LIKE these”. So this is not a comprehensive list. Like I said, you can even make eating food (which is a necessary) an idol which leads to spiritual death.
The best way to think is how Paul tells us that we should be thinking about this - we should only be doing the bare minimum in the flesh that is necessary.
      1 Corinthians 7:28-31
But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that. This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.
This is not to say that you can never do anything for pleasure ever again. Just notice though the outlook threat Paul has - since the time is short, let us live fully for God as much as we can. Even if you need a rest for a short time, do it unto the Lord. Just be careful to not get comfortable, complacent, or out anything before God. We need to be focus and fixed on the Kingdom and winning as many people as possible and doing as much as we can for the Lord out of love for Him and others. Hope this makes sense.
      God bless!

    • @abideintheWord

Look at it this way - don’t just look at what you CAN’T do. But look at it more as what you CAN do for the Lord. What can you give up to have more time to serve the Lord since the time is short and people need to hear the gospel? Can you give up TV to have more time to serve? What else can we leave behind that is keeping us from being fruitful for the Kingdom. Remember God prunes us to bare even more fruit. The more you abide in Jesus the more you will find that those other things just don’t interest you as much and the more time you want to have for the Lord. But it’s still a CHOICE that we have to make. We have to CHOOSE to weed things out of our life as well. The key though is love - how much do you love God and love others. If you love, then you will sacrifice.

Have you ever watched the different near death and encountering God videos… some have experiences with Heaven some have experiences with hell and some experience both… some of the ones who only experienced a heavenly state and only peace and love or a loving embrace… they will say it was like nothing else mattered and anything they did even bad in their life does not matter and that they have not completed their purpose so they must go back… some of the ones that have this encounter usually give a statement that this thing was a being or brings and give the indication they have heard of God but not really walking with God…no mention of Jesus or walking not in sin…
perhaps they are given mercy and must search out the matter and seek God, just seems confusing because they speak that they don’t have to worry about anything after their experience but they find themselves living a more joyful life

Yeah I think there are several things in play here. Satan is a master deceiver. He could either 1) be deceiving these people, or 2) be influencing them to lie. It could also be a medical reason why they had a state of bliss. Scientists have proven that this state of peace general happens to most people due to lack of oxygen to the brain.
But what I do is take it all as a whole. I have come across numerous testimonies of people dying and they actually were taken to hell and were completely frightened and God told them that they needed to stop their sin and they come back to life and are forever changed and have the fear of the Lord!
If you watch these testimonies they typically do not end up subscribing to eternal security afterwards. Usually quite the opposite. You should look up Bill Weiss. He went to hell and has written a book on I believe and rejected eternal security. God bless!

Yes, Bill Weiss may seem televised, but I trust his teachings because something seems off about believing in Osas after they come back from an experience of bliss, I kind of think in the terms of you enter the wrong way like a thief and not the narrow way you and either way you may experience spiritual things, but not necessarily be on the road to the true God- such as those who take hallucinogenic drugs or thc, and it’s kind of sad that even though scientists may have some correct material worldly view on those that leave there body due to oxygen deprivation and experience bliss from an nde, but they neglect that there is a spiritual part to this as well because the soul does not die

      @abideintheWord 2 года назад +3

@@Cryptogab94 think about it this way - what if you’re wrong? Eternity would be a really bad place to find out the hard way that you were deceived wouldn’t it? After all, there is pretty strong scriptural evidence for it -
      Revelation 14:11
And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”
      Revelation 20:10
and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
But even if it’s not, then why would you not want to live? You can repent and have LIFE! Why would you not want eternal life? Repent and turn to God with all you’ve got. Fight the devil, resist him and he will flee from you. But if you don’t resist, then he will not flee from you. He will drag you to hell. There is freedom, true freedom in Jesus’ name.
I guess the question is how much do you love Jesus? How much do you want to be with Him?

What Christ spoke here aligns with what's written in many places throughout the scriptures.
John 6:44-47 LSB - “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. “It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT BY GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.
I would examine myself deeply, to see if you are indeed in the faith. Your works righteousness pushes you and many more towards Christ's words in Matt 7. Salvation is a supernatural act of God that is 110% Grace. When your given eternal life, Christ will not lose a single one God has give him.
