In this video, I will be showing you and tell you about my newly bought Bismarckia Nobilis Palms and its interesting history along with their story from nursery to my house. Also, you will get to know complete information about its care and growth hacks in this video.
About the Palm :
Bismarckia Palm is world’s most attractive palm which is native to Madagascar. It’s one of the most massive, elegant and desirable palm with a stout trunk and symmetrical beautiful crown. It makes a great focal point and huge curtain with its leaves.
Bismarckia is a monotypic genus of flowering plant in the palm family endemic to western and northern Madagascar where they grow in open grassland.Its scientific name is BISMARCKIA NOBILIS and scientific family is Arecaeae. There are approx 2,600 palm species found till date. The genus is named for the first chancellor of the German Empire Otto Von Bismarck and the epithet for its only species, Bismarckia Nobilis comes from Latin which means ‘Noble’.
Bismarck Palm will tolerate −3 °C (27 °F) and will recover from −6 °C (21 °F). Bismarck palms are adaptable to a wide range of soils and prefer to have good drainage as the Bismarck does not like to have root rot. The Bismarck palm prefers to be watered directly into the root system or sprayed through the palm heart. When planting the Bismarck palm make sure to not to cover up any part of the trunk, as this will lead to problems as the Bismarck palm is susceptible to be eaten by microorganisms that live naturally in soil and other mediums. Requires watering once a week when newly planted for at least first two years.
Micronutrients needed for a good growth of Bismarck Palm are potassium, boron, magnesium and iron maintaining NPK balance. One can put Dry Cow Dung or Bonemeal or Organic Vermi Compost once or twice a year for good growth and shine in its leaves. It requires bright sunlight or no less than 4 - 6 hours minimum.
Bismarckia Nobilis Palm grows only 2 feet each year in moderate to favourable conditions. Its height goes approx 30 - 60 feet and max to 70 feet. Width ( Spread of leaves ) will be approx 12 - 16 feet on its maturity.
