Gate is upside down because it's the inside of the gate. We saw it one way because we were going down towards it in Book 6, but Idia and Ortho were inside and behind the gate for most of Book 6 before they attempted to climb up and out of the Underworld, so we're just seeing Idia's memories before he and Ortho tried to climb out of it.
