    Today in Death Must Die we play Kront with a full tank thorn build, meaning when we get attacked we attack back the enemies. While the concept is quite simple, the execution isn't - at least if you fully want to go into the theme of the build and use as much armor as possible. If the game would provide better options for melees to gain experience and an easier setup to get what you want, I think it would be fine. But in the current state each run ages you by 5 years.

    I hope you enjoyed the video and if you did, don't forget to give it a like and consider subscribing to the channel! This is another themed video where I ignore things you would usually take to focus as much as possible on a theme. In this case, the focus was damage reduction, retaliation and healing. Or in other words, we want to maximize the effect to kill enemies by them attacking us. While I always take advice, recommendations or ideas, please consider that this has to be fitting with the theme of the video. E.g. if the suggestion is to pick spell XYZ because retaliatory damage was just not good enough, then I would counter that idea by saying "then why even go for retaliatory damage and thus a themed video around it if we can just pick something stronger". Life is one option I considered a lot, but the issue is that I couldn't guarantee Mort as third god and the bonus life only matters on her (since the Life Link is % HP based), and I would also feel wrong picking Life over Armor in a build focused around tanking enemy hits.

    You know, Dex, I'm not sure if the healing from the Thorns things is considered a heal, but, theoretically, you could become immortal with a bit of luck. It heals 30% of the damage you took after mitigation. So that means, if it counts as a heal, that means if you get 234%+ bonus healing, you'd heal back 100% of the damage you took. But this will be almost impossible I think. You have 50% from the one goddess, and the rest should be from Gear/Shrines. Idk what the rolls on gear are, but if shrines are multiplicative, it shouldn't be thaaat outlandish.

    If you want to do a true retailiate build.
    You will need Equillibrium (its a unique epic).
    The item has this effect: Whenever you get hit, gain Increased Heals, Regenerations and Lifesteals for a limited duration. Duration : 2 seconds . Heal 100 %
    Also the buff was weakness from the attack.

    you want a big HP build for this. all that armor and damage reduction just nerfs the retaliatory damage. if you could instead get to 1,000 HP with enough regen/steal...

    I really think taking a thorns consecration build focused on armor is a bad idea, at least for this game. Yeah dmg reduction is good sure, but should not be the focus. Try getting Cast Speed and Heal Effectiveness. Knight with invulnerability instead of armor focused on those stats can just simply stop attacking once you have consecration (even basic one) along with mort dash. At least thats how I feel from personal tries, as this is probably my second most played build

    I have a request if possible. When you are doing these build videos, can you take a few seconds before the run to scroll over the items your character has equipped for the run? It would be nice to have a reference point.

    Not capitalizing on life regen is kinda a mistake on thorns builds, your goal is to get hit, so recovery from that hit should be priority. Especially over more armor, reducing enemy damage from 7 to 7 is meaningless compared to 1hps.

    Interesting you still made this run. Not what I would think of as a thorns build though, more like a lifesteal/armor tank brawler kind of guy.
    Lacking most of the high rarity selfheal abilities and reprisal was low too. Guess thats just what you have to do if you don't have the right gear though.

    I did a similar build last night on the knight, I like him the most because he has a 100% adept chance, and any gear that adds more % to adepts gets instead added to expert... so basically 8/10 of my skills are expert.. got like a 20% master chance as well.. it's super fun.

    True Thorns build is also a Pacifist build. So you shouldn't attack! From level 1! Get Exp per second, lead enemies on top of Campfire pickups so they burn. Maybe Dash kills are ok but really your main dmg would be Flare, Reprisal, Consecration. I'd even consider making this build on Skadi with Movespeed per lvl sign & Haste. Just walking thru enemies so they proc Flare but dont hit you in time.

    The withering tree is actually insane with the "All offers are expert but can't get master/legendary" it overwrites it. One game I had that and TWO trees for 222% experience. But its hard to get both in the same game.

    I want to see a Beyblade Kront build with whip, gem high, and time's attack. Build up enough attack speed, and you just become a whirling dervish of death. It's hilarious

    you need the item equilibrium, it increases your health regen by 100% after being hit. mix it with other items and buffs increasing your health regen and youll eventually heal more than what enemies deal damage to you

    I've been trying the same thing with different heroes for a few days now, funnily enough my only success was one of my first attempts with Skadi. The passive hp regen is a must for these kinds of builds imo. After lvl 15 you just heal all dmg you take in seconds, especially if you get a decent rarity on Justice %inc heals.

    I also tried a tank/retributin build and no skill in the game are good enough to make it work.
    Smite, consecration doesnt do shit, passive regen is too low to be effective, armor is good but at this point (you had 70% reduction level one) it's not really useful.
    They should make smite scale on damage, consecration should deal aoe damage, regen should be tripled and add 2 or 3 new skill around this thematic

    1st 15 seconds reminding me of my attempts to get the no hits taken achievement. Nixi has 71% Evasion Chance from my gear yet the 1st time I don't Dodge out of the strike it still hits.

    I did this with Averon and the armor per 3 levels on difficulty 30. Think i ended up with an almost 80% damage reduction. The baron with weakened applied just tickled me. It was nice being able to face tank everything. Mort and Justice are required, Fire im not sure about. Flair did by far the most damage, but i could have lost all of that damage and still not died.

    Yes, if you get the all offers are expert after withering tree, then you get +111% xp and all expert offers

    I felt like avoron is much better for this. i went sign of the chosen one, and when the invulnerability procs you can heal up a ton from the retaliation

    Thorns builds... sounds awsome but rarely works the way you want it too in any game. I just started PoE again, and looking at trying to make a thorns tank... ive got some decent things for it.

    Not got round to playing this game yet so pardon me if what i say doesn't work due to what is available stat wise on gear or somthing; but i feel like you went into this with completely the wrong gear setup.
    The way the heal on the retaliation works, (and thus i'd assume the damage too), you want to be taking as much raw health loss as possible. if a boss has 20,000 health then with the level 4 master retaliation you need to take a 1,000HP in damage to kill it via retaliation alone. Thus what you really want is as much raw life, life regen, and bonus healing as you can get. Your Armour reduces the damage you take but that means it also reduces the damage the enemy takes as there's less damage going into the thorns calculation, and most later enemies seem to have far more health than they deal damage.
    Ultimately your best possibble DPS is simply your average health restore rate per second multiplied by the thorns multiplier, (20x at the end seemingly),. So maximising your restore rate and having enough combined Life and damage reduction to keep your damage intake rate below your heal rate is the key to making it work. Here you had a lot of damage reduction but almost no restore so you where having to avoid most of the damage.

    Is the enemies damage return effected by armor? The more damage they deal to you the more thorns they recieve? Or if you have tons of armor means they deal less damage to you so in turn recieve less thorns damage?

    @13:00 They just need to remove the Exp related effects from any Gods.
    It is just NEVER balanced. It's either nerfed into useless (like Jade Amulet in Halls of Torment) or effectively mandatory to get anywhere good or do anything fun. I've never seen a game of this genre "balance" Exp effects.

    I just saw another video that was based on the same idea, but the difference here was that he used the Knight and had a unique weapon called ''Equilibrium'' which gave him +10% heals for every hit he was taking for 1 sec. So basically from 2min in the start he was just letting monsters hitting him and with consacration they killed themselves, but he just have to pay attention to shield monster, they were the only one who damaged him and bosses. Still, he was letting boss hitting him and than the boss dying on its own lol.

      Could you link the video? I only found one from "Gaming with Jeff" that was uploaded recently but I don't think you mean that, since it uses a ton of powerful spells.

      @@DexTag Ah , yes it was him lol. But it's true he did in fact use spells, but besides that he was still able to let monsters hit him while ''not'' taking damage. From my perspective I think it was possible to just do the run without those spells, but just have the basics for a thorn built, which aren't spell like orbs, fire spells etc... Will it be possible than, with that weapon?

      @@samuelleblanc4294 I think that's a very rough comparison because the run used Ravens and Soulstealers, the by far most broken things in the game (Ravens usually not as much, but on a melee yes), also the attack damage scaling, Lightning Orbs and Chain Lightning. For comparison, look at these 2 end screens:

      My retaliatory damage sums up to 1.85m, his retaliatory damage sums up to 210k. Pretty much his main damage was Lightning Orbs (826k) and Soulstealers (1.1m). It's of course possible to implement spells into such builds in a normal run, but I think if the point is to be a full tank with retaliatory focus, then taking other spells that take over is a bit pointless. What I fully agree on is that the weapon helps to heal, but it shouldn't be overestimated how much it does. I am not sure if the effect even kicks in the moment you get hit, as in: Consecration, the main heal, gets triggered when you take damage and heals you. The effect on this weapon also gets triggered upon being hit. IF the effect is not resolved first, then the bonus healing will not be increased.
      Though as I said, the real issue with this is just farming equipment and having it locked on other characters. Kront here had almost all of my armor equipment and before, I had the Onyx gear (roughly 225 armor on Chest + Ring) sold that my Knight was wearing in hopes I find it again for Kront. So if I would have just played the knight, I would have had maybe 150-200 armor instead of the 450 I had on Kront.
      So just to make this clear: I dont disagree with the use of the Knight/Weapon, but for my case it sadly wasn't possible. If I could cheat in the items I would honestly just do it, as well as cheating in order and rarity levels of the gods.

      @@DexTag TBF, his equipment was pretty garbage and, for some reason, he was trying to build up Mayhem. And if you get Masters, may as well take them if you can't banish/reroll them. It's just always interesting when two similar things come out at the same time. Like Armageddon and Deep Impact came out in the same summer.

    only getting expert overwrites only getting novice, or atleast its whatever you pick up after, as i had a run where i had only getting novice and then picked up only expert and i got only expert but it might have the opposite effect if you pick up the novice only after the expert only

    I think they should update the withering tree out I literally always avoid it it’s horrible. They also should buff up the other gods like fire and frost and war to make them more usable cuz right now if you want to kill level 30 bosses you need time and death regardless of the character

    So I have brotato mobile and there is a glitch where the amount of mice you can get is not limited. Also there is a glitch where if you have like 8 or 9 or even more wandering bots they slowly dissappear (what's the point of the wandering bots if you can't get a good 100 of them and infinitely slow the enemies). Oh yeah I totally did not get 9 wandering bots in less than 40 waves.

    If you got pull range on every piece of gear could you level up a melee character as fast as the sorceress? Well probably not since your gear would be shit.

      gear would be bad, but it doesn't help if you collect all XP but get 5x less XP. Merris mainly uses a bouncing attack that knocks XP out of the enemies and in the game, for some waves, the enemies spawn are only limited in max amount. So the more you kill, the more XP you will get. Melee chars will ALWAYS be worse off, no matter what you do. Pull Range is only a problem with distanced attacks and if you walk around instead of collecting it
