  • In this Adobe Illustrator tutorial I take you through my process for creating my Alphabot series for the 36 Days of Type challenge in 2021. I start out with pencil and paper before using my phone to take a photo that I use as a template image in Illustrator where I create the final cartoon robot letter.
I have been taking part in the 36 Days of Type since 2019. This marks my third year taking part in the creative challenge but is actually my 4th version because I executed two alphabets last year. If you haven't heard of the challenge yet you need to run over to instagram to check it out by searching the hashtag #36DaysofType. You can also visit the main site to get more information. www.36daysoftype.com
The concept of creating an alphabet for the challenge (26 letters + 10 Numbers) is quite simple... but when you see the amazing things that other illustrators/animators/designers/3D artists put together you will be inspired to push the boundaries of what you thought you were capable of. For the last two years I have animated my alphabets as After Effects practice. I don't have any formal motion graphics training so I am very proud of my results. I'd be thrilled if you check them out.

I'm posting this as the current edition is still ongoing. If you're interested you can follow me on Instagram @DesignWisdom to see the rest of my robots as I post them. I'd also love to see what you put together if you made your own series this year so leave a comment with your handle down below and I'll check out your work!
