  • *In this video I show images from google of different Y. Recurvifolia varieties, one of which is called, 'margaritaville' which is my all time dream plant, if anyone knows of where to buy these, please let me know!
Spotlighting one of my all time favorite yuccas! This is Yucca Recurvifolia also known as Yucca Pendula, common names include, Soft Leaf Yucca, and Curved Leaf Yucca. This Yucca is hardy to zone 6b, maybe 6a or even 5 with appropriate microclimates. They form lovely trunks 6 to 8ft tall and their foliage is graceful and pendulous with a silvery blue tint. These mimic (IMO) pony tail palms, dracaena, cordylines etc... providing a lush and tropical aesthetic to the garden without costing a fortune like Yucca rostrata... though a different look. I consider Yucca recurvifolia to be one of my favorite hardy tropicals, though they are not even a tropical, they just look like one!
In this video I discuss culture, tips and tricks and how to get the best cold-hardiness as well as desirable growth from the Yucca recurvifolia / Yucca pendula, and really most yuccas.

This is my favorite yucca for sure. They trunk and many times grow multiple heads. They resemble palms if pruned properly. Great video.

Mine too! They're are some neat looking yuccas out there, but the pendulous leaves plus the smooth trunks makes them more appealing to me. Have seen them in the pacific northwest with such thick trunks that they almost look like ponytail "palms."

I have two of these , one is almost 4ft and the other is just over 2ft! had them both for 3 years, they look very tropical like you say. I live up in Chicago and I am growing mine indoors. Sometimes i put mine outside in the summer but you have to watch for spider mites!!! I can get geeky about this plant too.

I am excited too! Wish I had found them in the spring so I could have gotten them planted and gotten a season of growth... oh well!

My neighbors have a huge wide one. The flower spikes grow a few feet tall. It doesn't ever get watered. I have never seen any of the renters water it. The only water it gets is the little rain we get here which is not much. I live in zone 9b in northern California. I am amazed with how well the plant does with no care.

That sounds wonderful! I wish i had the soil and climate to grow these into big and beautiful plants without having to fuss with them. It will be worth the effort though. :)

Several different Gucci species grow like seeds here in Atlanta. Spanish bayonet is a good trunking type that can take some zone 7b 8a cold and will 8 feet tall here

Yes they do! I used to have some also and I feel like it took a couple seasons to fully remove it, oh no, it was the bulldozer from the pool construction, thats what finally got rid of it!
